Legacy of the God of War
Chapter 358: The Ultimatum
After hours of fruitless searching, Li Chen and Li Xinjie returned home, their worry etched deeper into their faces. As they entered the villa, Sun Lixia approached them, hope fading from her eyes as she saw their expressions.
"Found anything?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Li Chen just shook his head and sank into a nearby chair, his body heavy with exhaustion and fear. His father, Li Xiaojun, placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Don’t stress, son. We will find them and bring them back safely," Li Xiaojun said, his voice firm with conviction.
Li Chen looked up, his eyes dark with a mix of worry and anger. "If anything happens to her and my babies, hell will break loose."
The room had filled with more family members during their absence. Li Yanyan and Zhu Fengrui had arrived, their faces etched with concern. Zhang Mei’s mother, Mu Lingling, sat in a corner, her eyes red-rimmed from crying, while Zhang Mei’s cousin, Zhang Meixue, tried to comfort her.
Cen Yuhuan’s parents had also arrived, her mother’s face tear-stained and puffy. The atmosphere in the room was thick with tension and fear. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Suddenly, Li Chen’s phone rang, breaking the heavy silence. He answered quickly, hope flaring in his chest. "Hello?"
"Dear cousin, how are you tonight?" Sun Gang’s voice sounded at the other end, smooth and almost jovial.
Li Chen’s face darkened. He put the phone on speaker, his voice tight as he responded, "Sun Gang."
"Listen, I have something special that belongs to you," Sun Gang continued, his tone turning menacing.
Li Chen’s grip on the phone tightened. "You are the one who kidnapped Zhang Mei and Cen Yuhuan."
Sun Weilong’s eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn’t fathom that his own son would kidnap his cousins’ wives.
Sun Gang chuckled evilly. "Well, your twin’s wife was a bonus. I wanted your wife."
"You bastard, what do you want? Shares?" Li Chen growled, his free hand clenching into a fist.
"Oh, that we will discuss later," Sun Gang replied casually. "For now, I want the manual. I want the pages you have in your hands."
Confusion swept through the room. Everyone, save for Li Chen, exchanged puzzled glances. What manual was Sun Gang talking about?
Sun Gang’s voice turned cold. "Listen carefully, cousin. Your wife’s life hangs in the balance. Those precious twins she carries? Their fate is in your hands now."
Li Chen’s face paled, his body rigid with tension. "If you harm a hair on her head-"
"Then bring me the manual," Sun Gang interrupted. "All the pages you have. And come alone. If I so much as suspect you’ve brought anyone else, well... let’s just say your dear wife and unborn children will pay the price."
The threat hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. Li Chen’s eyes darted around the room, taking in the shocked and angry faces of his family.
Sun Ming stood in a corner, her face a mask of disbelief. She couldn’t comprehend how she could have a brother capable of such evil.
Sun Weilong had sunk into a chair, his head in his hands. "I’m so sorry," he kept muttering, his voice breaking. "I’m so sorry for what my son has done."
Sun Lixia moved to her husband’s side, her hand on his shoulder. "This isn’t your fault," she said softly, though her own voice trembled with emotion.
All eyes turned to Li Chen, waiting for his response. Cen Yuhuan’s parents stepped forward, their faces lined with desperation.
"Please," Cen Yuhuan’s father pleaded, "give him whatever he wants. Just bring our daughter back safely."
Li Chen stood, his face a mask of determination. "I’ll do whatever it takes to bring them home," he said, his voice low and dangerous.
"Li Chen," Sun Gang’s voice crackled through the phone, "you have 24 hours. I’ll contact you with the location. Remember, come alone, or they die."
The line went dead, leaving the room in stunned silence.
Li Xinjie was the first to speak. "Brother, what manual is he talking about?"
Li Chen sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "It’s... it’s complicated. The Seven Fists Manual. It’s an ancient martial arts text, said to contain unimaginable power."
"And you have it?" Sun Lixia asked, her brow furrowed.
"Parts of it," Li Chen admitted. "I’ve been collecting the pages, trying to keep them safe. I never thought... I never imagined it would come to this."
The room erupted into a flurry of questions and exclamations. Li Chen raised his hand, silencing them.
"I know you all have questions, but right now, we need to focus on getting Zhang Mei and Cen Yuhuan back safely," he said firmly.
"You can’t go alone," Li Xinjie protested. "It’s too dangerous."
Li Chen shook his head. "I have to. We can’t risk their lives."
"But we can’t just let you walk into a trap either," Li Yanyan interjected, her voice filled with worry.
As the family argued about the best course of action, Sun Ming quietly slipped out of the room. She made her way to a secluded corner of the villa, her mind racing. She might not have known this family for long, but she felt a growing sense of loyalty to them. And she had skills that could help.
Back in the main room, Li Chen was trying to calm the frantic family members. "I understand your concerns, but I won’t risk Zhang Mei’s life or the lives of my unborn children. I’ll go alone, as Sun Gang demanded."
"At least let us set up some kind of backup," Li Xiaojun pleaded. "Something discreet that won’t tip him off."
Li Chen hesitated, then nodded. "Alright, but it has to be subtle. Sun Gang can’t suspect anything."
As the family began to formulate a plan, Sun Ming reappeared, her face set with determination. "I think I can help," she said quietly.
All eyes turned to her, a mix of surprise and curiosity on their faces.
"How?" Li Chen asked, his voice cautious but hopeful.
Sun Ming took a deep breath. "I have... skills. From my time in Japan. I can create a tracking device, something small enough that Sun Gang won’t detect it. You can wear it, and we’ll be able to follow your location without him knowing."
A glimmer of hope appeared in Li Chen’s eyes. "Can you really do that?"
Sun Ming nodded confidently. "Give me a few hours, and I’ll have it ready."
Li Chen looked around the room, seeing the worry and fear on the faces of his family members. He knew the risks were high, but he also knew he had no choice. Zhang Mei, their unborn children, and Cen Yuhuan were counting on him.
"Alright," he said finally. "Let’s do it. But remember, no one makes a move unless absolutely necessary. We can’t risk their lives."
As the family began to mobilize, each taking on a task to prepare for the upcoming confrontation, Li Chen stepped aside, his hand instinctively going to the pocket where he kept the pages of the Seven Fists Manual. He had always known the manual was powerful and dangerous, but he never imagined it would put his family in such peril.
In the mountain villa, Zhang Mei and Cen Yuhuan huddled together on the bed, unaware of the plans being made for their rescue. Zhang Mei winced as one of the twins kicked particularly hard.
"Are you okay?" Cen Yuhuan asked, her voice laced with concern.
Zhang Mei nodded, forcing a smile. "They’re restless. I think... I think they can sense something’s wrong."
Cen Yuhuan squeezed her friend’s hand. "We’ll get out of here. Our husbands will find us. You’ll see."
As the night wore on, two scenes unfolded in parallel. In the Sun family villa, a rescue plan was being meticulously crafted, with Sun Ming working tirelessly on the tracking device. And in the mountain hideout, Zhang Mei and Cen Yuhuan clung to hope, unaware of the danger that still lay ahead.
The clock was ticking, and with each passing moment, the stakes grew higher. Li Chen knew that the coming confrontation would be unlike anything he had faced before. It wasn’t just about the manual anymore; it was about protecting his family, about bringing his wife and unborn children home safely.
As dawn broke over Shanghai, Li Chen stood at the window, his eyes fixed on the horizon. In his pocket, he felt the weight of the manual pages, a burden he had carried for so long. Now, that burden threatened everything he held dear.
"I’m coming, Zhang Mei," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "Just hold on. I’m coming."
The stage was set for a confrontation that would test the limits of Li Chen’s strength, courage, and love. As the sun rose, casting long shadows across the city, the final pieces of the plan fell into place. The next 24 hours would determine not just the fate of the Seven Fists Manual, but the fate of the entire Sun family.
In the quiet of the early morning, Li Chen made a silent vow. He would bring Zhang Mei and Cen Yuhuan home, no matter the cost. And Sun Gang? He would pay dearly for threatening those Li Chen loved most in the world.
The countdown had begun. In 24 hours, everything would change. The only question was, would Li Chen be ready for what awaited him?
