Leveling Up Alongside My Plant Legion
Chapter 21:Farming
The scroll felt light in his hand, but the moment his eyes focused on it, a faint description appeared.
[Inspect] :Tier 0
A basic detection skill that allows the user to view the Tier and Level of a target. The information revealed depends on the user’s own Tier and the skill level. Targets above the limit may not be fully identified.
Reigns read it carefully, then looked up at the shopkeeper.
"How much is it?"
"200."
Reigns’ face twitched slightly, and he let out a sharp breath.
"Why don’t you just loot me?" Reigns spat.
The shopkeeper’s expression turned a little annoyed.
"Brat, don’t scream if you don’t know anything. This might be Tier 0, but such skills are rare."
He crossed his arms and scoffed.
"Most of the monsters drop the skill they have. Now think, how many monsters would have such a skill? That itself is quite rare."
He paused for a moment, then added.
"Also, let me tell you something .A Tier 1 similar skill might cost 500 and Tier 2 5000."
Reigns stayed silent for a second, then slowly nodded. He understood the reasoning now.
Tier 0 skills usually failed to identify anyone above level 10, but for him, it was still useful.
That did not mean he would accept the price so easily.
"I understand, but you need to lower it."
The shopkeeper narrowed his eyes, and the two began to argue back and forth. Their voices rose as they haggled over the price, each trying to push the other.
After a brief but intense exchange,Reigns handed over the lifespan and took the scroll.
150 days were thrown away at once.
Without wasting any time, he immediately absorbed it.
The scroll dissolved into faint light and flowed into his body. A strange sensation passed through his mind, as if something new had settled in place.
Once it was done, he lifted his gaze and cast the skill on the shopkeeper.
For a brief moment, his vision sharpened. Then he froze slightly as a floating text appeared above the shopkeeper’s head.
[Lv8]
Reigns blinked, clearly surprised.A random shopkeeper was level 8.
He slowly turned his head and looked around, activating the skill again and again.
Most of the shopkeepers were around that level, while the people who seemed like newcomers or belonged to his world were around level 5 to 7.
He let out a quiet breath and shook his head.
Without wasting more time, he moved to another stall and bought a Tier 1 scythe for 180 lifespan. The weapon felt balanced in his hand, and the blade gave off a faint sharp gleam.
After that, he made his way toward the registration area of the City Lord base.
As he walked, he casually used Inspect on the guards standing nearby.
Lv9... Lv10... Lv11...
His eyes moved from one guard to another.
The levels ranged from Lv9 to Lv12, but he had yet to see anyone beyond that.
Soon, he found a line where people were registering.
He stepped into the line and waited patiently. The line moved slowly, and after some time, he finally reached the reception.
The man behind the counter didn’t even look up properly.
"Name!"
"Reigns?"
"Class!"
"Farming!"
The man nodded casually, scratching something onto a ticket before handing it over.
"Go to counter number 14 that deals with farmers."
Reigns passed through several lines that were designated for different support class roles.
Blacksmith, Runesmith, Alchemist, Chef, Bard, Magical Engineer, Geomancer.
He slowed down as he walked, his eyes moved from one section to another. The sheer variety of professions left him slightly stunned. People of all kinds stood in lines, some carrying tools, some discussing materials, and others negotiating prices.
After a brief tour, he finally arrived at counter number 4. He handed over his token to a woman wearing a pair of glasses. She glanced at the token, then adjusted her glasses slightly before speaking.
"So Reigns, would like to lease 100 sqm for a month for 10 days, but remember this. If you don’t pay by this day next month, all produce will be forcibly taken away from you."
She leaned forward slightly, her gaze steady.
"Do you understand?"
"Yes!"
Reigns nodded without hesitation.
He then asked for additional information, his tone curious but focused.
Once you lease the land, you will be granted some seeds to produce which will be bought by the City Lord.
Aside from that, you can also grow spiritual plants and herbs for alchemists, which can fetch a good sum, but that depends on your ability to grow them.
The woman paused and looked at him again.
"Any more doubts?"
"No!"
Reigns shook his head.
"Then pay!"
He quickly paid the required 10 days of tradable lifespan and received another token.
"Farm number 91. You will find your tools there."
Reigns took the token and stepped away from the counter. He made his way toward the farmland area, following the marked paths. As he walked, he passed rows upon rows of tiled land.
Some plots were freshly ploughed and bare, while others were filled with different kinds of produce.
He was literally shocked when he saw a few lands that emitted magical energy.
Some fields radiated intense heat, and the air above them shimmered like a mirage. Others released cold mist that drifted slowly across the ground, forming thin layers of frost. In another section, small sparks jumped between crops, crackling softly as if lightning lived within the soil itself.
Reigns stared at them in bafflement. This was nothing like normal farming.
After a while, he continued walking and finally reached farmland number 91.
The land was covered by a faint barrier. It shimmered softly, blocking the inside from view.
Reigns stepped forward and held out the token. The token lit up in his hand, and the barrier responded immediately. The surface rippled, and then slowly opened, revealing the land inside.
He stepped in.
Inside, there was a simple plough, a pickaxe, and a few more farming tools placed neatly to the side. The soil looked decent, slightly dark and moist.
There were also a few seeds provided for him.
Spirit Grain, also known as Spiritual Rice, which was commonly used as a staple food.
Ember Root, a vegetable that stored mild fire energy and was used in cooking to boost stamina.
Frost Leaf, a cool plant that helps calm the body and mind.
And Verdant Pulse Herb, often used by alchemists for basic vitality potions.
Reigns looked at them for a moment, but then simply ignored them.
He had not come here for simple farming. He wanted to test something.
Last night, he had an epiphany.
The plant summons at the end were essentially plants, and he was a farmer. So could he grow them?
That thought had not left his mind since.
He grabbed the pickaxe and started hitting the ground, loosening the soil and preparing it properly.
"I forgot to ask about water."
He muttered under his breath, slightly annoyed, but he did not stop working.
After some time, he stepped back and looked at the ploughed land. Sweat had formed on his forehead. He wiped it off with the back of his hand and let out a slow breath.
Satisfied with his work, he straightened his back.
"BLOOM!"
A Level 1 Splash Shooter appeared in front of him.
Now came the moment of truth.
Reigns crouched down and carefully planted the Splash Shooter into the soil. He then placed the soul orb around its roots, making sure it was properly set.
The Splash Shooter looked at him in curiosity, tilting slightly as if wondering what he was doing.
Reigns continued covering it with soil until it was buried up to half of its stem. He pressed the soil down gently and then stood up.
He waited.
His eyes stayed fixed on the planted Splash Shooter, expecting some kind of response, some kind of system notification.
However, there was none.Reigns took a deep breath and then shook his head.
"It seems, I just wasted my time."
There was a slight hint of regret in his voice. Still, he was not completely convinced that it had failed. It was possible that he simply did not know the correct method yet.
He dusted his hands and turned around.
"Since I am here, I should just plant them and level up."
He was about to grab the pickaxe again when suddenly the barrier around the farm lit up.
Various circular symbols and runes appeared across its surface, glowing faintly.
Reigns froze and turned back immediately.Above the Splash Shooter, tiny droplets of water began to fall.
Sprinkle after sprinkle, they gently drenched the plant.
The Splash Shooter reacted instantly.
PLOP! PLOP! PLOP! PLOP!
It started bouncing slightly.
Reigns stared at the scene, completely caught off guard.
And it was at that moment that something unexpected happened.
