No matter how Blade injured Deacon Frost, the vampire he hated most always healed instantly.
Even if one arm was cut off or a leg severed, the missing limb would regenerate at once from gathered blood.
Nothing like ordinary vampires, who needed to drink blood or soak in blood pools to accelerate their healing.
The Blood God seemed to possess an endless supply of blood, remaining in peak condition at all times.
Meanwhile, Blade’s wounds continued to accumulate, and his stamina steadily declined.
Even if he was currently in the heightened state brought on by his first real feeding, sooner or later he would begin to weaken.
Watching the Blood God perform like this, Green Arrow Duck was no longer so confident that the Embrace Serum—which destroyed vampire cells—would still be effective.
Hidden behind cover, Green Arrow Duck was considering the right moment to intervene.
Then Blade seemed to notice something and suddenly changed tactics.
He used whatever weapons he could pick up from the ground to harass Deacon Frost, the opponent who believed victory was already his.
At the same time, he tried to retrieve the high-concentration Embrace Serum lodged high in a wall.
Finally, using a hidden mechanism in his sword hilt, he widened the crack in the wall and caused the serum to fall into his hands.
Then came one injection.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Every last syringe was plunged into Deacon Frost—the Blood God.
Apparently the Blood God’s vampire cells retained the same biological traits as before.
Which meant this "Blood God" was fundamentally the product of a magical ritual.
At the biological level, it was no different from the vampire cells Black Super had studied when developing the serum.
So once massive doses of weaponized high-concentration serum were injected into the body—far beyond the Blood God’s healing capacity—
The swollen vampire exploded like an overfilled water balloon.
Blood sprayed in every direction.
No trace of vampire form or existence remained.
Blade had won.
But he barely had time to savor the victory.
Green Arrow Duck emerged from hiding, immediately putting Blade on guard again.
"I’m not here to fight, Blade. I’m reinforcements called in by Whistler through Black Super."
Green Arrow Duck stated his position first.
"Reinforcements, huh."
Clearly the old Black man didn’t believe him.
Though whether he doubted the reinforcements part or the Whistler part was unclear. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Still, Green Arrow Duck continued:
"Anything you need to take with you?
"I’m planning to blow this place up.
"If someone performs that ritual again and creates another monster like that, none of us will have an easy time dealing with it."
"Wouldn’t blowing this place up cause too much commotion?"
Blade knew this wasn’t some remote mountain wilderness.
This was still within Los Angeles city limits.
Not downtown, perhaps—but certainly not somewhere the government could ignore if it exploded.
Still, Blade did not object to destroying it.
Green Arrow Duck thought for a moment about bureaucracy and regulations.
"That depends how much the local government cares about an unlicensed structure with no building registration.
"If no one can prove people are buried underneath, and since this was vampire territory, they might even help cover it up instead of asking what’s down there."
Don’t assume the authorities had no temper after everything vampires had caused recently.
For some unknown reason, the U.S. government had not formally gone to war against vampires.
But if the military ever became directly involved, vampires would fare even worse than mutants.
Both sides knew that.
Which was why vampires had usually exercised restraint.
Only the young radical faction truly believed they could rule the Earth.
Blade left first, emerging from the underground Eternal Night Temple.
Outside, he was met by Karen Johnson as the sunlight of Los Angeles greeted them.
Green Arrow Duck remained below, placing sufficient homemade explosives at carefully calculated structural points.
His goal was not merely to bury the place.
He wanted it wrecked.
Crippled.
Reduced to the point that digging it out and repairing it would be harder than constructing an entirely new temple.
He couldn’t stop future lunatics from rebuilding another Eternal Night Temple for another Blood God ritual.
But allowing anyone to reuse this one would mean he hadn’t done his job today.
By the time Green Arrow Duck returned to the surface, Blade had just declined Karen Johnson’s suggestion and was saying righteously:
"My war isn’t over yet. There are still hard battles ahead.
"If you want to help me, then make a better serum."
Most of Green Arrow Duck’s furry camouflage had been destroyed.
The exposed metal armor gleamed brilliantly in the morning sunlight.
Naturally, it drew attention.
To avoid seeming too conspicuous, Green Arrow Duck casually said:
"Even if vampires aren’t wiped out, taking out this group should at least quiet the streets of Los Angeles for a while."
"The young radicals were probably all here.
"But there will always be someone dissatisfied enough to cause trouble.
"You can’t expect eternal peace unless we exterminate vampires completely."
Blade answered bluntly.
Green Arrow Duck was about to say more when Blade asked first:
"How’s Whistler?"
"He’s safe. Somewhere even I don’t know.
"According to another person, give him two or three more days of recovery and he should be able to walk around.
"You’ll see him then."
"Tell the old man I avenged him.
"But if he wants to come back, he’d better be prepared for the same thing to happen a second time. Or a third.
"If he wants to retire and disappear somewhere no one can find him, I won’t blame him."
Green Arrow Duck responded impatiently:
"Tell him yourself when you meet.
"I’m not anyone’s messenger."
"Then who are you?
"I’ve never heard of anyone like you.
"Don’t tell me you’re Disneyland’s secret weapon."
Blade held no weapon, but the oppressive force of his presence bore down heavily.
"Just a passerby who happens to have a grudge against vampires."
Green Arrow Duck revealed nothing.
At the same time, the anti-gravity systems in his webbed feet activated again, and he slowly rose into the air.
"Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
"I planted explosives below.
"You’ve got about twelve minutes to leave.
"The blast shouldn’t spread too far—just get outside the underground structure’s area.
"But once something happens here, government people will definitely come investigate, whether they care what’s buried below or not.
"If you’re still here then, it’ll be troublesome.
"Never mistake officials for rational people who can be reasoned with."
Once he finished speaking, Green Arrow Duck extended both arms outward.
All six main thrusters ignited simultaneously.
The force of his takeoff created such intense wind pressure that it nearly knocked people off their feet.
"Do you know who he is, Blade?" Karen Johnson asked.
"If he doesn’t want people to know, then don’t investigate.
"As long as we know he’s a friend, that’s enough."
Blade’s attitude was simple and direct.
Even though other vampire hunters distrusted him, Blade was used to treating such people as allies.
As long as they shared the same enemy.
"Let’s go.
"There should be vehicles nearby that the vampires used to bring us here.
"We need to leave before the explosion."
Blade said to the doctor.
The two departed side by side.
Exactly twelve minutes after Green Arrow Duck’s warning, the buried explosives detonated simultaneously.
The ground over Eternal Night Temple bulged upward violently, as if something enormous were trying to burst out from below.
Then the entire area collapsed inward.
When it was over, only a massive crater remained—
Burying the evil that had once infested that land.
