Master Of None
Chapter 2893. Too Large
"I think there is too much going on right now." Walker had managed to take some time and wander to the cathedral. He found that Alice had her own troubles but had managed to find some time to sit and eat, so he had joined her.
"You are one person." This was not the first time she had said this to Walker, but it was also said as if she was reminding herself.
"I know I am and I know I can’t be everywhere at once. I was trying to copy the golem skills that the true sages use to make little bodies that can speak and act for them that they connect with and see through. But doing that would change me, I think."
It wasn’t just instincts that were telling him this. It was something that just felt right in how the skill would work.
"I think they are changed because of their path, but by making smaller bodies and copying themselves to them to communicate and act as extensions of themselves they are deeply connecting themselves to the elemental plane they are already part of. Like they are cementing themselves as a being that will always return to it and never leave it."
It was the choice to not grow beyond a limit set by himself in a way. Or at least that was how it felt when he tried to comprehend it. Like it was the wrong choice to make. One that would harm him more than help him.
It also brought him to thinking about how the origin race was not a race of people that would make themselves many. Instead they became powerful beings that traveled the unknown and brought things back. Maybe, even temporarily making himself in to multiple bodies or by projecting his mind in to a golem he would be breaking the path he was on that he was naturally following?
"Stop trying to think of everything like a problem you have to solve. A lot is happening and the world is growing into it all. But the world is able to handle it now. So go do whatever it is you need to do beyond the world." Alice almost made it sound like she was kicking him out.
Or maybe she was?
Before, the world needed a hero title holder because it was struggling. Now, it had one because he was an example for the people to unite under. To step forward with.
But was that all the hero of today had to be? Was Walker even able to consider what else the people needed other than a hero that could lead by example?
He hadn’t considered it. He had just been trying to do the same thing she had been doing this whole time.
Taking his chances to help where he could. Popping in and assisting with people stuck at their bottlenecks and in need of a push toward their next step. He had stopped here and there to push entire aspects of the united Genesis together forward. But did he have to be the one always doing that?
No. The answer was a clear and solid no.
"I think I will go out for a walk. The elemental planes are in a state of chaos and I have to understand that some of our people are coming from there too." The statement was a lot but it was what Alice wanted to see from Walker.
Their time together was valuable, but Alice had understood Walker better than most people. She had a faith within him that she fostered because he always tried to be better for those around him. But he also got stuck a lot. Let himself think himself in to circles.
She knew that and if she had to be the one that explained to project managers, Genesis representatives, or even the guard captains that she had sent him off away from responsibilities, then so be it.
The more that Walker did with his mind free and open to adapt, the more that the world would grow and the potential for everyone else would grow. So, she gave him a push.
Not just for her, but for everyone. And if that meant she would not see him as much as he had been making a point to be around, then she accepted that. When he came back from his walk as he called it, she could surprise him with better news. New things. And maybe something extra special.
For now though, she watched as he stepped forward with a slight smile on his face and the surety that he would see something fun out there later.
"Sir hero!" The shout came from a guard catching him at the entrance of the cathedral. Walker had just been about to teleport away toward a bridge to the elemental planes. Yet, this guard had been waiting here for him after their superior said not to interrupt the two while they ate. That it was a clear sign of respect to wait.
Walker had noticed them, but did not necessarily know why they were there. So he had taken his time and been ready to keep moving on if the guard had not come forward. Courage was something everyone needed to work toward too, it was what brought about the most change. The courage to speak or to act. It had value.
"We have another race visiting us, from the water elemental planes. They represent another alliance in the water elemental planes. They are a larger species and we cannot accommodate them." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Hmm, it seems like the interesting things are coming to meet me today then. Good thing I am free to meet them then, right?"
Without waiting for the guard to approve it, Walker held an arm around their shoulder and teleported them. He knew that the shock the guard would have would linger for a while, but suddenly appraising in front of the bridge to the water elemental plane was too amusing for Walker to do and watch than just walking there.
He also knew that there were others here, the ones who had Walker come here in the first place. If they were looking for him, then they would know that he would arrive and start to work right away. Plus, the guard could receive the praise that they were due for getting him in a timely manner.
Regardless, Walker understood the issue right away.
The bridges to the elemental planes were able to handle the smallest and the largest of beings. That was just the bridges utilizing their natural forms to flex and allow for travel of all kinds. Whether it was mana or living beings.
Yet, the issue here was that there was a very large being trying to enter the world. One that would cause a lot of damage by appearing at this bridge, which was connected to the water elemental plane as a whole. Therefore, the proper answer here was to have them wait or someone who might be able to speak with them directly.
Unfortunately, this had caused the being who was waiting to become very aggravated.
"I am not treated this way when I have visited villages on behalf of my council. The only reason I am still waiting here is the fact that the sage allows for you to hold your own right as a council. Others would have been taken under their wing and ruled by them!"
A deep breath later, Walker stood in front of the bridge. He was looking at the creature and understood it to be similar to the whale’s monsters he had seen. What was different were the larger scales and whiskers coming off of its face. The color was still a blue-ish gray that seemed to vary from scale to scale, while the eyes were still on the side of the head anchored in. but the sight with eyes and mana were always different, this being was looking at him with mana first.
"I heard that you came to visit, so I came. And if you wonder why we have yet to be taken under control by a council, that is because we made our own. We unite races of the world and of various elemental planes. So if you wish to begin the next elemental war, please attempt what you wish to do."
He waited only a moment before opening his mouth to speak again. "Seeing that you are not pushing ahead, then let me introduce myself. I am Walker, one member of the origin race who travels the elemental planes and was born in the world. I will speak to you about how your council can interact with the world and my council. We will also speak about various other terms. For now though, why don’t we return to the water elemental plane where you can be comfortable?"
