Chapter 229: Chapter 229 - I dare?

"I dare?" Lumi stepped forward. His body faintly glowed with a white light. The radience emanating from his body was from being in Light Mode. He cracked an arrogant smirk at Currway. "It’s not considered daring... if you don’t pose a threat."

He waved his wand. "Lance of Light!"

The sight of three spears of light shimmered within the eyes of Currway, watching as they shot forward, tracking him. "You take me for nothing!?"

The demon saw them coming and raised claw, swiping at the barrage, knocking them all aside. But he didn’t even have the time to feel good about it. While he did so, dozens of weaker spells, arrows, and blades had fallen upon him.

His face twitched. They didn’t hurt, but-

He didn’t even have time to process anything before pain suddenly pulsed from his arm. He looked down in shock to see at some known point, something smashed past two of his scales.

But... what?

Was it from Lumi? Was one of the humans a bit stronger? Had they used an item?

Someone tell him just how exactly he was supposed to parse the dangerous attacks from the useless ones when there were hundreds coming at him constantly!

"ROAAAAA-" His roar got stuck in his throat as he felt something get thrown inside. It didn’t even hurt, but it was deeply annoying. He felt something in his throat, so he figured it was an arrow. He-

"I’m so powerful!" Lena exclaimed with glee. Stars shined in her eyes, her body trembled in anticipation, and she literally drooled, saliva running down her chin and throat.

BOOM!

The bomb that Lena had thrown in exploded. Currway stumbled over himself, as the explosion knocked him off balance. He caught himself.

"Lance of Light!" Three more spears formed.

"Damn you!" Currway leaped this time, headed straight towards Lumi. He clawed out to deflect the blow, but at some unknown period, a warrior got in the way and attempted a parry. "you-" He sent the warrior flying back in mangled pieces, but it delayed his claw long enough that all of the lances impacted his thigh, each one breaking a scale. It didn’t help that for some mysterious reason, Lumi’s magic caused a second hit after each successful strike.

Lumi merely smirked. He had plenty of mana potions to sustain him, he could maintain this barrage indefinitely. Not to mention, he glanced at his status...

[T4 Magician Potion - Master Craftmanship]

[Casting Speed +1]

[Magic Attack +30]

With the extra casting speed from the buff potion he had taken, allowing him to cast faster, his dark gauge was building faster than ever.

Currway charged once again. The demon covered the distance in explosive bursts of speed, his massive form barreling toward Lumi. Players threw themselves in his path, but this time, he ready. He swept out his limbs, swatting them aside with brutal efficiency.

"Halt!" Suddenly, a warrior with a tower shield tried to block his path. Currway’s fist came down like a hammer, shattering the shield and the arm holding it. The warrior’s scream was cut short as the follow-up strike caved in his chest.

[Steely Dan has died]

Another warrior swung a greatsword at Currway’s legs. The demon’s tail swept low, catching the player’s ankles and flipping him completely upside down before slamming him into the ground.

[Brad Arty has died]

Lumi waited until the last possible moment, watching Currway close the distance. He already knew, when it came to Currway, the ’last moment’ was much earlier than with anyone else. The exactly moment he was within four dozen feet, he teleported away as far as he could.

Currway’s claws closed on empty air where Lumi had been a fraction of a second before. His eyes flashed. He identified Lumi’s new position in a millisecond, and immediately bolted towards it. He was sure he’d catch Lumi before he could teleport again.

"Die!" But the expected result did not occur. Despite the fact that Currway could catch Lumi in just a second, at some point, a warrior appeared in his way.

"You annoying pests!" He grabbed the warrior by the head, and with a strong squeeze, crushed his head into a messy puddle of flesh and bone.

Yet, it was enough time for not just Lumi to escape into the ground, but a thief jumped onto his head and stabbed both of his eyes. "Ah!"

It marked the first time a regular player, not special at all, had damaged him.

"Lance of Light!" And despite everything, Lumi never stopped casting. Why would he?

More spears formed and launched. Currway deflected two, but the third struck his leg, shattering yet another scale.

The demon roared in frustration and spun, his tail sweeping through a group of warriors who’d closed in while he was distracted. The spiked appendage caught three players simultaneously.

[Will Steel has died]

[Night Vali has died]

[Bear Bear has died]

Despite that, five more rushed in immediately to replace them, stepping over the spots where their comrades had just died. They swung their weapons without hesitation. One blade managed strike at one of the spots where his scales had already broken, leaving a shallow cut, barely breaking skin.

It was still a cut.

The warrior grinned triumphantly. "I hit him! Did you see-"

Currway backhanded him mid-sentence, sending him flying fifteen feet into a dead tree trunk.

[Blaide has died]

And yet again, Lumi sent even more spells towards Currway, neverending.

Ryan’s voice boomed from the right flank, cutting through his side of the chaos. "Warriors! Form lines and advance! Quick, shield users form the first line, then get moving!"

Thirty warriors moved as one, shields raised and locked together. They formed a solid wall of steel and flesh, seeking to ram into the demon.

Currway saw them coming, and grew frustrated. Every single time he intended to attack the traitorous Lumi, the endless hoard of ants would stop him. He turned his attention to the ones he could slaughter. "You really think a shield formation will save you from me!?"
