In the dimly lit cinema, when Miles Sterling bought the ticket, the best viewing area was already sold out.

His seat was in the second-to-last row, while Vanessa Sterling and Yvonne sat in the middle of the best viewing area.

From his angle, he could see where Vanessa was, and from time to time he could see the two whispering and discussing the film’s plot.

In contrast, Miles hardly paid attention to the film the entire time; his gaze was fixed on Vanessa, most of the time lost in thought.

He also fantasized about how great it would be if he were the one sitting next to Vanessa.

Looking back, he has known Vanessa for so many years, yet they haven’t watched a movie together.

Before their relationship soured, Vanessa was always somewhat afraid of him.

He found it hard to ask her out for a movie or dinner, not only because Vanessa would find it strange, but also because he himself felt odd about it.

They lived under the same roof but interacted in a twisted and strange way.

It seemed calm on the surface, but he knew Vanessa was always waiting for a chance to escape from him.

After going through so much later on, now seeing Vanessa living freely and happily like a normal girl is the greatest consolation for him.

Initially determined not to disturb her, but recently he noticed a change in Vanessa’s attitude toward him, and it stirred some thoughts he shouldn’t have had.

After the movie ended, Yvonne’s husband drove over to pick her up.

Their newlywed home wasn’t in the same direction as Vanessa’s residence, so Vanessa politely declined Yvonne’s invitation: "I’ll get a car, you guys should head home and rest early."

Yvonne, worried, advised, "I’ll leave after I see you get in a car, that scumbag is still lurking around here; I feel he’s definitely waiting for a chance to come after you."

Vanessa chuckled, "Don’t worry, he won’t."

"What do you mean he won’t? You don’t know him well, you’re so petite, in front of him you would just be bullied; what if he comes over to hassle you once I’m gone?"

Hearing Yvonne’s words, Vanessa hesitated for a moment herself.

She was surprised by the words she blurted out earlier.

In the past, facing Miles, she would have shared the same concerns with Yvonne. When did she start trusting Miles’s character?

Vanessa lowered her head, ordering a car through her phone, then said to Yvonne: "My car is about to arrive, you should go first, we can’t park here for long."

While pulling open the car door to sit inside, Yvonne worriedly said to Vanessa: "Tell me once you’re in the car, and let me know once you’re home too."

"Okay."

"How about we stay on the phone the whole way? That way, that scumbag won’t dare to do anything bad to you."

Vanessa couldn’t help but laugh, "Don’t treat me like a child who needs constant monitoring."

"Make sure to tell me when you’re home, otherwise I won’t be able to sleep." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Okay." Vanessa stepped back, waved goodbye to Yvonne.

After watching Yvonne leave, Vanessa turned her head to look behind her.

After the movie ended, Miles took the same elevator downstairs as them.

Earlier, when she was chatting with Yvonne, she noticed Miles was on the phone not far behind her.

Now there were people coming and going behind her, but Miles’s figure was nowhere to be seen.

The car she ordered stopped in front of her, and Vanessa withdrew her gaze and got into the car.

After replying to Yvonne’s message, Vanessa turned her head distractedly to look out of the window.

The red light ahead turned on, and the car slowed to a stop.

At this moment, a black sedan stopped parallel to hers, its driver’s window rolled down, and Vanessa’s gaze unexpectedly met Miles’s.
