Chapter 112- Invasion (Part 3)

"Oh my god.." Elio put his hand on his mouth in pure shock. The sight was just that brutal to witness. The city he lived in for a few years now was completely unrecognizable. The people running for their lives, the blood, and corpses riddling the streets. It was simply incomprehensible.

He had never witnessed anything like this before, and perhaps, not even the most experienced Vampire Hunters did either. Elio knew that he was witnessing a moment in history that would perhaps change everything in the future.

"Elio, snap out of it," Fiona said coldly. "We will be heading deeper into the city where the biggest number of Vampires are. The rest of the squads will take care of the ones that we couldn’t kill here."

"I-I understand."

"Listen, this is your first-ever mission, and I understand that you’re feeling overwhelmed. But I want you to remain calm. We must do what you practiced and learned. You are more than capable of holding your own ground, so don’t hesitate and do what your mind and instincts tell you, got it?"

Elio nodded his head. He already was aware of that, but hearing how confident Fiona was in him gave him the mental boost he needed for what he was about to face. Perhaps those words would be the difference between life and death for him.

"Let’s go." Seeing that Elio was ready, Fiona started running, followed by the boy.

"Take care of the matter from here, Jax." She yelled at the squad leader.

"Leave it to us, Lady Fiona."

With that, the Hunters spread everywhere, and the battle started. Several of them immediately clashed with Vampires that tried to attack humans.

"There are so many!"

"Don’t back off! We need to eliminate them all!"

The two sides fought violently as the swords sliced through the Vampires. The Hunters weren’t spared some bites either. It was a brutal struggle for survival, and the results were far from pretty.

Blood was bound to be shed in large quantities. That was perhaps the only constant in all of this.

***

That area was one of many that had the same exact struggle. Many squads were deployed, and even more were on the way back to the city to join as reinforcements. However, that was far from the end of it all.

The number of Vampires was simply ridiculous. There weren’t dozens, or even hundreds... There were thousands of them, and they all decided to attack at the same time. Even Vaylor could never anticipate such a thing, as it was theoretically impossible before. They didn’t even know such a thing could happen.

The result of that lack of preparation started becoming apparent when the number of dead people started piling up, and the blood that ran through the streets turned into a river. Fire rose from many buildings.

Buildings were pillaged and destroyed as the vampires searched for any victim to eat. Those who were lucky to find one would suck them dry, and some would even gang up on one victim, not sparing a single droplet.

Each kill made them stronger, and each kill made their aggression even more prominent.

*Swish*

Dodging a swing, Elio sliced with his sword, cutting the monster’s torso in half with a clean swipe. He then rolled and continued dashing forward, chasing after Fiona, who was cutting her way through any vampire she came across.

"Don’t fall back, Elio!" She yelled.

"I’m right behind you!"

The two went from one street to another, hunting any vampires they saw to help the rest of the squads. It didn’t take long for the numbers to go from a few dozen to hundreds, just running around the same area.

This was the shopping district, the biggest one in the entire city, and the one that has the most activity. Naturally, the scenes there were straight out of a nightmare.

The number of humans in that area alone was tens of thousands, and the number of vampires was easily over a coupleof thousands. It was so chaotic that for a second, Elio couldn’t differentiate between the enemies and the innocent people.

Fiona brandished her sword as she spread her senses far and wide.

"Elio! Don’t lose focus!"

The boy snapped out of it as he nodded his head and clenched his teeth. ’This is so cursed! This is so damn cursed!’ He grumbled under his breath.

"Should we separate?"

"No, stay by my side. We need to cut our way through to the other side." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

With that, the two started moving again as they ran across the open district. Many people were running around them, some smashed into Elio in a panic as the boy pushed them off and tried to run.

"RAAAA!!"

It didn’t take long for vampires to catch a glimpse of him and attack. Elio ducked down under the attack as he threw the monster off his shoulder. At the same time, another one jumped on his back out of nowhere and tried to bite into his neck.

However, Elio didn’t let it as grabbed its face and with sheer physical strength, fused with his immense Blood Energy, he crushed its face and then elbowed it in the stomach, making it fall.

With a quick slashed, he cut its head off before he turned to the other one and stabbed it in the face. It was gruesome and if it was any other situation, Elio would’ve felt disgusted with himself, but there was no time for personal feelings.

Looking up, Fiona had cut a good distance while he was fighting.

’I need to come after he-’

As he was about to run after Fiona, Elio suddenly caught a glimpse of someone in the far distance. The moment he saw her, his eyes widened.

"Grandma..."

It was his grandmother, looking left and right with a worried expression on her face. That was when it hit him... The conversation they had earlier today.

’She was going out to buy some stuff. Right! Dammit!’ His heart sank as he quickly ignored Fiona and dashed toward his grandmother.

He knew that if he didn’t get to her in time, some monster might, and it would be an utter nightmare.

"Grandma!!" He yelled as he pushed people off him. It was extremely hard to carve a way through such chaos, but with his physical strength, he wasn’t easily pushed around or stuck.

"Elio..." Hearing a familiar voice, Emilia looked to the side, and her eyes lit up. "There you are!"

"We need to get out of here, Grandma! There is no time to explain! The entire city is being attacked by vampires!"

"What even is happening... I heard the news and came out to all of this." She fell into deep thought for a second, only for Elio to snap his finger and grab her hand.

"No time to waste, let’s go! Fiona is waiting on the other side!"

Nodding her head, the two started running through the street. Except... The moment Elio tried to pass the street, he immediately encountered a dozen or so vampires rushing in his direction.

’Shit!’ His face darkened as he looked around him and located another path. "From there, Grandma!"

The two turned around to run, only to see that the path was closed with another group of vampires. That was when Elio realized... They were slowly being surrounded and trapped within the main street.

The vampires were engulfing the humans there.
