Chapter 373: The Guards’ Loot, Criminals of the Imperial Kingdom
Leon used [Celestial Hand] on the guards he could target with the skill, and overall, this is what he managed to acquire from their defeated bodies:
[Imperial Army Armor x53 (Uncommon): Unable to wear this armor unless a member of the Imperial Army.]
[Imperial Army Sword x48 (Uncommon): Unable to wear this sword unless a member of the Imperial Army.]
[Imperial Army General Armor (Epic): Unable to wear this armor unless a general of the Imperial Army.]
[Imperial Army General Sword (Legendary): Unable to wear this sword unless a general of the Imperial Army.]
[God of War’s Letter (???)]
"...Well this fucking sucks," Leon muttered, genuinely frustrated by the useless loot that was essentially worthless to him.
Leon was quite sure the general’s armor would be far better than his [Divine Armor +2] in terms of stats.
And even if it somehow wasn’t, Celeste would definitely have grown stronger while wearing one as well.
Alas, it seemed like the Imperial Army expected something like this to happen and placed an enchantment on each piece of armor to prevent anyone from stealing them, a clever security measure that thwarted his plans.
The thing that did indeed make him more nervous was the letter that somehow was considered to be a "drop" from Alvec’s body, an item he hadn’t expected to find.
Alvec likely had received it very recently and thus forgot to throw it away before confronting them, a fortunate oversight that gave Leon access to something important.
Either way, it meant Leon was able to gaze at something that a god had personally written, which was both exciting and terrifying in equal measure.
He was about to summon the letter from [Storage Space] to open it and read its contents but before he could do that, a notification appeared that made him pause.
Beep!
[You have killed several members of the Imperial Army, Celestial!]
[You will be hunted and brought to justice for your crimes, there will be no mercy on either you or your companions.]
"Wow," Leon said flatly, unimpressed by the threat that had just appeared before him.
Leon wasn’t actually scared of the warning, he mainly was angry that even though he had simply defended himself and his companions from an unprovoked attack, he was considered to be the criminal in this situation.
Either way, staying in the kingdom was no longer an option for them, and they needed to leave immediately.
"Lets move," Leon spoke calmly, grabbing Emilia, Celeste and Alphox before using the [World Map] to teleport them out of the kingdom before any more guards could arrive and surround them.
He could hear and sense hundreds of figures approaching their inn, the guards likely sent to capture him for his crimes against the army and bring him to justice.
The best option was simply to teleport away before a battle started as he couldn’t use the [World Map] once he was engaged in combat, and fighting that many could be possible, but not necessary.
Fwoosh!
Right as the door of their inn was flooded with guards pouring in through every entrance, all three of them teleported away in a flash of light that left the guards grasping at empty air.
Then after a few seconds of weightless travel through the magical currents, they landed a few kilometers away from the [Imperial Kingdom], the walls barely visible in the distance.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Celeste held her own head, her eyes shaking with confusion and fear, "All of this is too fast for me to process right now..."
"Kyu~"
Pyra came out of Celeste’s chest at that moment to spin around her master and try to cheer her up with affectionate chirps and nuzzles.
But still, nothing she did seemed to help Celeste feel better about the situation they had just escaped from, her mind still reeling.
Emilia seemed shaken as well, but she took it better than Celeste, her composure holding steady despite the chaos.
’...Gods,’ Leon thought to himself while looking at the sky above them, ’Even where you can’t reach us directly, you cause problems and chaos wherever you go.’
Leon’s expression darkened, but while the two girls were talking to each other to calm down, his mind raced with plans and strategies for what to do next.
’I need more strength, I need to be so much stronger that even when they face me directly, they stand absolutely no chance against my power.’
Leon’s current strength at his level was admirable and amazing by any standard, but it wasn’t enough to face what was coming, and he knew it.
He needed more, so much more to be ready for the challenges that lay ahead in the higher domains and beyond.
He needed to acquire a lot of skills, mainly strong ones or forbidden ones that could turn the tide of battle in an instant.
He needed all of his skills to be fully maxed out by acquiring skill stones from monsters and bosses across the domains.
He needed all his stats to be extremely high, so much so not even the gods could stand before him without fear in their hearts.
He needed to strengthen his soul, acquire the best equipment available, and prepare as best as he could by blessing them with the [Blood Heart]’s power when it recharged.
’The blood heart’s been inactive lately even though I killed many monsters, pretty sure It’ll recharge soon though.’
All of that, he would need to do in the [Eternal Battlefield], his last stretch before entering the [Eternal Domain] where the gods awaited him.
Once he calmed down a little from the adrenaline of the escape, Leon pulled out the [God of War’s Letter (???)] from his storage space to examine it more closely.
It was a crimson letter with a symbol of two dark swords crossed on it, the paper seeming to pulse with dark energy that made his skin crawl.
The simple sight of it made Leon’s soul shiver with unease, and he turned around to make sure neither Celeste nor Emilia could see it and be affected by its presence.
Then with a deep breath to steady himself, Leon opened the letter and read what was inside.
And what he saw inside made his blood run cold and his heart race.
[It seems like you can do very interesting things, Celestial.]
