Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 161: We Are Innocent
She wasn’t being sarcastic; she was genuinely asking.
This messy entanglement between those two... was it really that fun?
If he just divorced her sooner, they could finally be together and give that nephew he doted on a complete family.
’How great would that be!’
Sunny Reed’s eyes flickered. "Sister, why do you keep misunderstanding my relationship with Walker? We’re just friends."
Chloe Reed took a disappointed step back. "This is so boring."
Without a second glance at Sunny Reed, she turned and walked toward her own workstation.
She took out her phone, snapped a photo of Sunny Reed, and sent it to Judith Pierce.
When Judith Pierce saw the photo, her head throbbed.
She immediately called Walker Grant. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Mom, what is it?"
Walker Grant’s tone was very cold.
"Sigh... Can’t you give your mother a break?" Judith Pierce said with a sigh.
Walker Grant was confused. "What’s wrong?"
"Didn’t we agree yesterday? Sunny Reed was supposed to resign from the company, so why is she there again today?" Judith Pierce’s head was pounding. "She wants to work, fine. This city is huge; she could work anywhere. Why does she have to be with Chloe?"
Walker Grant’s voice grew distant. "Mom, you shouldn’t get involved in these things. Haven’t you been back for a long time now? Hasn’t your medical team urged you to return?"
"..."
’This rebellious son of mine!’
"Even with me here, you’re still so partial to your sister-in-law. I can only imagine what a mess things would be if I left." Judith Pierce huffed. "I’m not going back for now, and don’t you think about trying to chase me away!"
She hung up abruptly.
As for Sunny Reed being at the voice acting company, she was truly at her wits’ end.
She just couldn’t understand what on earth her son was thinking.
’What a headache.’
"..."
When Chloe Reed returned, she found an expensive box of chocolates on her desk.
She froze. ’Who put this here?’
She looked left and right, but seeing no one looking her way, she frowned and tossed the chocolates straight into the trash can.
She went back to her work.
Just before the end of the workday, Owen Sterling came over. "Do you have a minute?"
Chloe Reed asked, "What’s up?"
Owen Sterling said, "I have a tagline for an ad that needs to be recorded, and your voice seems like a good fit. Want to give it a try in a bit?"
Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up. ’I can make some money!’
"Sure."
She agreed.
Then Owen Sterling added, "It’s for a public service announcement."
Then he glanced at her desk, cleared his throat awkwardly, and said, "I was afraid you’d refuse, so I bought you a small gift in advance—a box of chocolates."
Chloe Reed’s expression froze. She glanced at the trash can by her feet.
Owen Sterling followed her gaze. His expression went numb for a second before he asked, "Why did you throw it away?"
"There was no name on it. I was worried someone was trying to poison me," Chloe Reed said with a perfectly straight face.
Owen Sterling said bluntly, "In that case, you’re definitely doing the PSA. I can see you’re very dedicated."
Before, it was a negotiation. Now, after finding out the chocolates had been thrown away, he dropped the pretense. He said his piece and walked away.
"..."
’Serves me right.’
’I should’ve thrown it in a different trash can.’
Fortunately, the public service announcement was only a short, one-minute spot with a few lines. She finished recording in half an hour.
Just as she finished packing up to leave work, she saw Owen Sterling coming out of his office, too.
He looked at her and asked with a smile, "Let me treat you to dinner as a thank you for recording the ad."
