Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 170: He Helps Sunny Reed Secure a Collaboration
Chloe Reed curled her lips into a smile at him. "What? Surprised to see me?"
The expression on Walker Grant’s handsome face was calm and gentle. He glanced at her pale hand, then at her dress, before saying, "I’m not surprised. I knew you’d come for me."
A chill ran down Chloe Reed’s spine, but she kept the performance going. "So, what are you all talking about?"
Walker Grant glanced at the small group of people standing opposite them.
The man at the head of the group spoke up at once. "Mrs. Grant, it’s been too long! You’re looking more beautiful than ever."
Chloe Reed clinked her glass against his. "Thank you."
Walker Grant obligingly made the introductions.
Chloe Reed began to chat with them.
Sunny Reed stood to one side, stunned that Chloe Reed had shown up. The moment Chloe appeared, all eyes were on her. Sunny couldn’t help but tighten her grip on her wine glass.
After a moment, she finally spoke. "Walker, I really have you to thank for this."
"Mm."
Walker Grant responded.
Chloe Reed’s ears perked up as she listened, a mix of suspicion and alarm rising within her.
’What was Walker Grant helping Sunny Reed with now?’
Her fingers curled, and a wave of unease washed over her.
Walker Grant looked at the man opposite him. "President King, my secretary will contact you. You can discuss the specific details with my sister-in-law then."
President King nodded eagerly. "Of course."
With that, Walker Grant led Chloe Reed away.
The moment they turned away, Chloe Reed asked him directly, "What did you help her with this time?"
"Are you jealous?"
Walker Grant, however, simply gazed at her bright, exquisite face and asked in a low voice.
Chloe Reed’s expression didn’t change, but she spoke through gritted teeth. "Walker Grant, would it kill you to give me a straight answer?"
"Would it kill you to admit you’re jealous?"
He tossed the line back at her, his tone nonchalant.
Chloe Reed’s anger instantly flared. She was done talking to him.
She tried to pull her hand away, but as if he’d anticipated the move, he tightened his grip, holding her fast.
"Chloe, you didn’t come here to make a scene, did you?" he said, his tone mild.
’The report he’d gotten was that she had refused to attend the banquet.’
’But here she was.’
’She was clearly here for Sunny Reed.’
’Sunny Reed was representing the Reed Group, and Chloe wouldn’t want to see that.’
’So, she wouldn’t cause a scene at a banquet like this.’
Chloe Reed reined in her emotions. "If you know all that, then what are you doing? Helping Sunny Reed and just handing the Reed Group over to her?"
Walker Grant’s tone grew even more detached. "It’s just one small partnership. If it goes to her, it goes to her. You don’t need to fuss over it."
"But what if I’m not okay with it?" Chloe Reed looked at him. "She can’t represent the Reed Group. She’s just the adopted daughter. If she gets to represent the Reed Group, then what about me?"
Her expression was dead serious. She refused to let Sunny Reed have even the slightest opportunity. ’She doesn’t deserve it!’
Walker Grant’s sharp brows furrowed. A frigid chill entered his gaze, making his eyes seem even deeper. "Chloe, getting hung up on this won’t do you any good."
"So you’re set on giving that partnership to Sunny Reed, is that it?" Chloe Reed stared right at him.
Walker Grant squeezed her hand. "That’s not important."
"Let go."
Chloe Reed now understood his intentions, and her expression turned completely cold.
Far from letting go, Walker Grant tightened his grip, his tone turning colder. "Chloe, there’s one more thing I haven’t asked you. I already fired Owen Sterling, so why did you intervene to save his job? You’ve only known him for a few days, hmm?"
