Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 185: A Lawless Bad Kid
Her heart skipped a beat, then filled with bitterness.
Chloe Reed found it laughable.
Even a man she’d only met once believed in her, yet her own parents didn’t.
In their eyes, she was nothing more than a wicked, unruly, and completely out-of-control child.
Her voice was hoarse as she said, "Mr. Vance, thank you."
The girl inside sat on a wooden plank bed, hugging her knees. Her slender frame made her look fragile and pitiful.
Preston Vance instinctively took a step forward. "Miss Reed, do you want to get out of here?"
Chloe Reed’s lashes trembled. She then shook her head. "No, thank you. It’s quite nice in here."
’It’s quiet. No one can bother me here.’
An unusual glint appeared in Preston Vance’s eyes. He sighed in resignation. "Alright. It seems I’ll have to owe you this favor for a little while longer. You can call me if you need anything at all."
Chloe Reed looked at him earnestly. "Mr. Vance, you really don’t have to worry about it."
"I can’t do that." Preston Vance’s expression turned serious. "You saved my life. That’s no small thing, and I will never forget it."
Chloe Reed felt a little helpless. She couldn’t change his mind.
Preston Vance said, "I’ll be going now. When you get out, I’ll come pick you up."
Chloe Reed was taken aback for a moment, then she managed a small smile. "Thank you."
Preston Vance turned and left.
The small room fell silent again.
Chloe Reed closed her eyes again, then lowered her head, burying her face in her knees.
It felt as if the pain in her heart had been soothed, just a little.
...
With no surveillance footage, all it would take was Sunny Reed’s accusation of intentional assault and the testimony of the passerby for Chloe Reed to likely be convicted.
The smell of disinfectant permeated the hospital.
Walker Grant pushed open the door to the hospital room and walked in. His brow furrowed at the sight of Sunny Reed, her head wrapped in gauze and her face pale.
"Walker, you’re here."
When Sunny Reed saw him, her expression softened.
Walker Grant gave a short reply, then sat down. "Feeling any better, Sister-in-law?"
Sunny Reed nodded. "It doesn’t hurt as much anymore. But my lower leg is fractured, so I’ll probably have to stay in the hospital for a while."
Walker Grant glanced at her leg. "Right. You have to stay in the hospital, so you can’t work, and you can’t look after Noah. I’ve already sent him to the family estate."
Sunny Reed’s hands clenched the blanket. She forced herself to sound calm. "Yes, you’re more thorough than I am. But I miss Noah. Can you have him come visit me later?"
Walker Grant looked up, his gaze dark, deep, and frigid. "Noah would be terrified and burst into tears if he saw you like this. It’s better if he doesn’t come."
"Walker... what are you trying to say?" Sunny Reed’s smile began to falter.
Walker Grant leaned back in his chair, his voice flat. "There are no cameras in the stairwell. Only the two of you know what really happened."
Sunny Reed’s lashes fluttered. "I just wanted to ask my sister to let me have the partnership opportunity with the Vance Group. I never thought she would suddenly attack me..." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"But the external cameras clearly show you pulling her into the stairwell," Walker Grant said coolly. "Why did you have to go to the stairwell to talk about it? I checked. There was no one else around you at that time. You could have easily talked right there."
Sunny Reed looked at him with a hurt and aggrieved expression. "Walker, are you doubting me? Do you really think I would throw myself down the stairs just to frame my own sister? Is that the kind of person you think I am?"
Tears started streaming down her face as she spoke.
