Vance Group.

Preston Vance was sitting in an expensive leather chair, signing documents.

Just then, a knock came from the office door.

He looked up and said, "Come in."

Ian Spencer walked in, his expression somewhat grave. "Mr. Vance, I wasn’t able to contact Miss Reed. I looked into it and found out that she’s been taken to the police station."

Hearing this, Preston Vance’s light brown eyes narrowed slightly behind his rimless glasses, and a hint of confusion appeared on his handsome face. "What happened?"

Ian Spencer frowned. "She pushed the young madam of the Grant family—her adoptive sister—down the stairs."

After a pause, he said with a heavy expression, "Mr. Vance, her personality seems so unstable. Are we sure we want to cooperate with her?"

But Preston Vance thought for a moment before saying, "Although I’ve only met her once, I don’t believe she’s that kind of person. Which police station is she at now?"

Ian Spencer was taken aback. "Mr. Vance, are you going to see her?"

"Yes," Preston Vance replied. "There must be some misunderstanding. If possible, I’d like to get her out. It would also be a way to repay her for saving my life."

Ian Spencer’s expression was complicated, but he went to investigate anyway.

「Night fell.」

Chloe Reed was taken to a separate cell. Iron bars trapped her inside, layers of shackles keeping her from leaving.

She sat on the wooden plank bed, her face pale and her eyes vacant.

Just then, a police officer walked over and said, "Someone’s here to see you."

Chloe Reed’s eyelashes trembled, and she immediately closed her eyes. "I’m not seeing anyone."

"Miss Reed."

But to her surprise, a gentle, familiar voice called out.

Chloe Reed froze. She turned her head and saw Preston Vance standing outside, watching her with a gentle smile.

"Mr. Vance, what... what are you doing here?" she asked, bewildered.

Preston Vance gestured with the documents in his hand. "Have you forgotten about the cooperation we agreed on, Miss Reed? My people couldn’t reach you, so I took the liberty of having your location looked up. I didn’t expect to find you in such a... unique place."

Chloe Reed’s mind went blank for a moment.

’He already knows I’m in a police station, yet he still wants to sign a contract with me? He even came in person?’

Preston Vance looked at her gently. "Miss Reed, are you ready to sign the contract now?"

Chloe Reed’s chapped lips moved. "I don’t have a company, nor do I hold a position in one. I can’t sign a contract with you. I worked so hard only because I wanted to facilitate the cooperation between the Reed Group and the Vance Group. But now... I don’t think it’s necessary anymore."

Preston Vance paused, sensing a deeper meaning in her words.

From what his investigation had turned up, he also learned that the Reed family seemed to be extremely biased toward their adoptive daughter.

He set the documents down and smiled faintly. "I respect your decision. Whatever you want to do is fine."

"Why?" Chloe Reed looked at him and asked, completely lost.

"Why what?" Preston Vance asked, looking back at her in confusion.

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly, her fingers curling as she spoke softly, "I’m in a police station right now. I can’t possibly be a good business partner. Why would you still come here to deliver the contract?"

’He even came to deliver it himself.’

Hearing her words, the curve of Preston Vance’s lips deepened. He gazed at her intently. "I don’t believe that someone who would rush to help a stranger whose life was in danger could be a cold-blooded person who would hurt others."

He reached up to adjust his glasses and said, "From my brief interactions with you, I believe you are a very kind person."
