Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 190: Clean Up Your Own Mess
After failing twice, the valet tried to flee, but the bodyguards pinned him down, immobilizing him.
Iris Yates rushed forward. "Chloe, how are you? Are you hurt?"
Chloe Reed was still in Walker Grant’s arms. His arm was wrapped tightly around her waist, with enough force to seemingly crush her into his body.
She shook her head, her face pale. "I’m fine."
Iris Yates let out a sigh of relief. "That scared me to death just now."
Then, she turned to Preston Vance. "Mr. Vance, who was that man? Why did he want to kill you?"
A hint of guilt appeared on Preston Vance’s refined and handsome face. He looked at Chloe Reed apologetically. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you."
Chloe Reed asked in confusion, "What’s going on?"
Preston Vance was silent for a moment.
Just then, Walker Grant spoke in a cold voice, "Mr. Vance, if you want to make friends, you should clean up your own mess first. If my wife runs into another ’accident’ like this, I won’t let you off the hook."
With that, he assertively pulled Chloe Reed toward his car.
Feeling slowly returned to Chloe Reed’s stiff body, and she tried to push his hand away.
But the man only tightened his grip on her waist.
His deep voice was tinged with coldness. "Hasn’t what just happened scared you enough?"
Chloe Reed’s face was pale and taut. "Let go of me. I can walk on my own."
"Let you go so you can walk on your own?" Walker Grant saw right through her, opened the passenger door, and pushed her inside.
To keep her from running off, he leaned over to fasten her seatbelt.
They were so close their breaths mingled.
Chloe Reed’s back went rigid, and her breathing became shallow.
After Walker Grant fastened her seatbelt, he was about to straighten up when he saw her cold, wary, and guarded expression. His eyes darkened.
"Chloe, I’ve warned you before to stay away from him."
Chloe Reed pressed her lips together and said nothing.
Walker Grant’s brow furrowed. He straightened up and shut the passenger door.
He looked at the bodyguards and said, "Take him to the police station."
"Yes, sir."
The valet had already been tied up and could no longer struggle.
Iris Yates glanced from one group to the other before finally walking to the side of the road to hail a cab.
’There’s no way I’m getting in Walker Grant’s car,’ she thought. ’I won’t be able to stop myself from cursing him out.’
After giving his orders, Walker Grant got into the car without giving Preston Vance a single glance. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The car started and drove away.
A wave of delayed fear washed over her. Chloe Reed remained silent, her palms slick with cold sweat.
Growing up, the biggest upheaval in her life had been her parents bringing Sunny Reed home, and the greatest disaster had been that earthquake.
She had never experienced an assassination attempt like this.
Suddenly, a large, warm hand took hers, enveloping her slightly trembling fingertips.
Walker Grant said in a low voice, "Don’t be afraid. You’ll be alright."
She didn’t want to admit it, but her fingers really did stop trembling. Chloe Reed’s expression grew even colder.
She hated her own reaction.
She pulled her hand away and turned to look out the window.
Walker Grant paused. He glanced at her profile but didn’t say anything more.
The car drove directly to Jardinelle.
Sitting in the car, Chloe Reed said coldly, "I don’t want to come back here."
"But this is our home," Walker Grant said calmly. "The one you personally chose and designed as our marital home."
Chloe Reed’s long eyelashes fluttered. She then asked, "Why were you there?"
’And you showed up right on time.’
