Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 192: Are You Wearing the Ring?
Her tone grew calmer, yet also more determined.
Walker instinctively tightened his arms.
’She just had to have a divorce.’
’Absolutely had to have a divorce.’
A nameless fury ignited in his chest. He stared at her face, his gaze landing on her lips.
She was calm now, but her lips were still pale, lacking their usual striking, rosy hue.
He suddenly leaned in and kissed her.
Chloe’s pupils constricted as she reached out to push him away.
But his kiss was sudden and fierce.
He toyed with her lips, and when she gasped in surprise, he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss.
He assaulted her senses, stealing her breath and her sweet taste.
Their breaths tangled together.
After a long moment, he finally released her. Seeing her lips, now rosy and delicate, the fire in his chest seemed to quell.
Chloe’s eyes reddened with fury, and she raised her hand to hit him.
But he caught her wrist with ease, pulling it down and pinning it.
"Chloe, I’m not divorcing you."
He lay down beside her again, his nose gently brushing against her cheek. "You’re the one who promised to spend the rest of your life with me."
Chloe closed her eyes, her lashes trembling uncontrollably.
An ache bloomed in her chest, a bitter, suffocating feeling that made her want to cry.
She hadn’t slept well the night before, and after everything that had happened today, the moment her mind relaxed, a tide of exhaustion washed over her.
She fell asleep quickly.
Walker listened to her steady breathing, his dark eyes as deep and thick as ink. Tinged with a lingering tenderness, he gazed at her, entranced.
He opened the nightstand drawer and took out an exquisite red velvet box. He opened it, removed the ring inside, and took her hand, sliding it onto her ring finger.
It was their wedding ring.
The inside was engraved with their initials.
’How could she sell it?’
He wouldn’t allow the ring that belonged only to them to end up in anyone else’s hands.
Seeing her fair, slender fingers wearing the wedding ring again, his expression softened. He then pressed a light kiss to her finger.
...
「In the evening, the last rays of sunset vanished below the horizon.」
Chloe slowly opened her eyes. After sleeping for several hours, her body had finally processed the lingering fear from the afternoon’s ordeal.
She felt a little dazed. In her groggy state, she seemed to remember the feeling of something being slipped onto her finger.
She held out her hands to look. Both were bare; there was no ring.
Chloe frowned slightly. ’Then why did I have that feeling?’
The man was no longer beside her. She sat up immediately.
Just then, her cell phone rang. It was only then that she noticed he had placed it on the nightstand.
Chloe picked up her phone and saw it was a call from Preston Vance.
"Hello, Mr. Vance."
Chloe answered, her words coming out instinctively.
Preston Vance gave a wry laugh. "Were you that scared by what happened this afternoon? So much so that you’re reconsidering our relationship?"
Chloe was momentarily confused, then replied, "No... I honestly hadn’t thought about it that much. It’s just a habit to call you that, and it’s hard to break."
"Alright, I won’t push it," Preston Vance said with concern, his tone tinged with self-reproach. "How are you? Were you frightened?"
Chloe said, "I’m fine. It’s just... who was that? Why did they want to hurt you?"
Preston Vance replied, "Some old enemies from my time abroad. When they can’t beat me head-on, they resort to these kinds of insidious tactics. I’m so sorry. You were almost hurt because of me. I promise nothing like this will ever happen again."
