Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Nothing Was Found

Judith Pierce looked at him, her expression complex. "Have you stopped targeting the Reed Group?" she asked.

Walker Grant glanced up at her. "What are you trying to say?"

"Would you even listen if I told you?" Judith Pierce snapped. "The Reed Group is still Chloe’s family business. If you keep targeting it, how is she supposed to get along with her parents?"

But Walker Grant said, "Charles Reed hit her."

Judith Pierce was taken aback, but she quickly retorted, "That’s a matter between a father and his daughter. There was no need for you to make such a big move."

"Mom, it’s over. There’s no point in bringing this up now," Walker Grant said, his tone mild.

But Judith Pierce could tell he was losing patience.

Judith Pierce decided to drop the subject and said no more.

With Walker Grant by his side, Noah quickly calmed down and fell asleep in his arms.

He placed Noah on the hospital bed, then rose and left the room.

He drove to the hospital where Sunny Reed was staying.

The bodyguards at the door of her room saw him and spoke respectfully, "Mr. Grant."

"Mm."

Walker Grant grunted in acknowledgment and pushed open the door to the room.

Sunny Reed was surprised to see him. "Walker, it’s so late. Is something wrong?"

Walker Grant said coolly, "You’re to return to the family estate tomorrow to recuperate."

A flicker of emotion crossed Sunny Reed’s eyes. "I don’t really want to go. It’d be awkward for me to return to the estate, given my position."

"What’s awkward about it? You’re Noah’s mother. No one will dare say a word," Walker Grant said, his expression impassive. "Unless you’ve done something you don’t want anyone to know."

"Of course not." Sunny Reed forced a smile. "I’ll do as you say, then."

Walker Grant nodded. "I’ve had my people take over operations at the company that’s in your name. Once you’ve recovered, you can start working there and learn about management."

Sunny Reed froze, then said, "But I already have a job..."

"That job isn’t suitable for you," Walker Grant stated definitively. He had already made plans for her future.

Sunny Reed looked at him. "Are you worried that if I meet with my sister, another accident might happen?"

Walker Grant replied, "A few more accidents like this, and Noah will be without a mother."

Sunny Reed instinctively avoided his gaze, as if he had seen right through her.

She clutched the blankets, saying hesitantly, "My sister and I... it seems we can’t reconcile. I don’t know how things got to this point. Walker, do you blame me?"

She gave a bitter smile. "Even though I’ve never hurt her, and there’s never been anything between you and me... since my sister has it in for me, it must be my fault."

Walker Grant’s brow furrowed slightly. "Sister-in-law, don’t dwell on baseless thoughts. Just get some rest."

He turned and left the room.

Sunny Reed’s expression darkened.

’Is he trying to prevent me from having any contact with Chloe Reed?’

’Is he only starting to protect her now? Isn’t it too late?’

...

With Walker Grant away, Chloe Reed was completely relaxed. She ate dinner and then studied her script for a while.

Just as she was getting ready for bed after her shower, a message came in from Iris Yates.

Iris Yates: [Chloe, remember how I said I’d look into why your parents adopted Sunny Reed?]

Chloe Reed immediately perked up and placed a video call to her.

The call connected, and Iris Yates’s face appeared on the screen.

Her expression was complicated, and she looked bewildered.

Chloe Reed looked at her, puzzled. "What’s with that expression? Did you find something out?"

"No." Iris Yates shook her head. "That’s just it, I’m so confused. I couldn’t find a single thing about Sunny Reed’s life before she entered the orphanage."
