Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 235: Sister-in-law, Come Quick, Someone’s Going to Die
Chloe Reed’s breath hitched. She looked up at him, her expression perfectly calm, and said, "How will we know if we don’t try?"
Her resolve to get a divorce was firm.
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened, and the air around him grew even colder, exuding an oppressive pressure.
He stood up and walked toward her.
As he drew closer, that oppressive feeling intensified.
"Chloe, doing this... I’m really not happy," he said, his face impassive.
Chloe Reed’s fingers tightened. Still keeping her composure, she asked, "So what are you going to do?"
Walker Grant’s lips curved into a smirk. "You’ll find out soon enough."
He walked past her and left the conference room.
A sense of unease suddenly bloomed in Chloe Reed’s heart.
’But I’ve already come this far. If I give up now just because he threatened me, wouldn’t all my previous efforts have been for nothing?’
Chloe Reed gritted her teeth and suppressed her anxiety.
She went back downstairs and continued to work.
Kyle Coleman frowned as he looked at her pale face. "What’s wrong with you? You’re really not on your game today."
Chloe Reed said, "I probably just didn’t get enough rest."
Kyle Coleman was clearly displeased. "I’ve warned you time and again not to bring your personal emotions to work. If you keep this up, I’m replacing you!"
Chloe Reed took a deep breath and said, "I’ll do my best to pull myself together."
But Kyle Coleman just waved his hand. "Alright, you can go. Don’t bother coming in this afternoon."
Chloe Reed froze.
But Kyle Coleman had already turned and walked away.
’He’s a boss whose bark is worse than his bite.’
A warm feeling spread through her, and she immediately gathered her things and left.
She went home to move. She hired professional organizers to sort through her belongings and also called a moving company. Before evening, she had moved everything to Maplewood Gardens.
The organizers were responsible for putting everything in its place, so she didn’t have to do anything throughout the process.
She also called a cleaning service to tidy up the entire house, inside and out.
After everyone had left, she sat on the sofa and looked at her new home. The tightly wound string in her heart loosened just a bit.
She let out a heavy breath and took out her phone to order takeout.
But just then, a call came in. The caller was Nathaniel Monroe.
Her brow furrowed, and she hung up immediately.
Nathaniel Monroe and Walker Grant were thick as thieves. He was probably calling to trick her again.
’Can’t trust a liar!’
But Nathaniel Monroe called again, and the ringtone seemed to sound even more urgent.
Chloe Reed answered the phone, her tone sharp. "Hello, what is it?"
"Chloe! It’s an emergency! Someone’s going to die, you have to come now!" Nathaniel Monroe’s voice was frantic. "It’s Miles Hawthorne! Walker asked him out for drinks, but he’s forcing alcohol down his throat! Miles is about to drink himself to death!"
Chloe Reed shot to her feet, her face a ghastly pale as she rushed outside. "Where are you?!"
"The Blue Night Club."
The night was thick and dark. As Chloe Reed got out of the car, she felt a bone-chilling cold.
She hurried inside, shoved open the door to a private room, and immediately saw that it was filled with people.
Miles Hawthorne was being held down by several bodyguards, one of whom was forcing alcohol into his mouth.
"Stop!"
Chloe Reed rushed forward and shoved the bodyguard away.
At her sudden appearance, the bodyguards didn’t dare to make another move and all looked toward the man sitting in the middle of the sofa. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
Once released, Miles Hawthorne slumped over the edge of the sofa, coughing violently and then vomiting.
He was drenched in alcohol.
Overwhelmed with guilt, Chloe Reed grabbed a tissue to wipe his face, her worried voice trembling. "Are you okay?"
