Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 236: How Could I Bear To?
"COUGH, COUGH... I... I’m fine..."
Miles Hawthorne said with difficulty, even giving her a brief smile.
But his face was covered in alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked utterly wretched.
’How could he possibly be fine?’
Chloe Reed was furious. She snapped her head up to look at Walker Grant. "Are you insane?! How could you do this to him?!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Walker Grant sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed, holding a delicate glass. His eyes had been fixed on her since the moment she walked in. He took in her furious glare as she questioned him.
He quirked his lip into a smirk. "He wanted to drink. I didn’t force him."
"You’re shameless!"
’And he has the nerve to say he wasn’t forced?!’
’Just a moment ago, two bodyguards were forcing Miles to drink! He nearly drank himself to death!’
Chloe Reed helped Miles Hawthorne sit down on the sofa and handed him a tissue. Then, she looked at Walker Grant. "If you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t drag innocent people into this."
"Take it out on you? I couldn’t do that. I’d feel too bad for you," Walker Grant said softly, setting down his glass. "Besides, he’s not so innocent."
Chloe Reed suddenly recalled the words he had said in the CEO’s meeting room, and a chill spread through her.
"Chloe, I’m okay. Don’t be scared..." Miles’s breathing had steadied, and he tugged on her sleeve.
’How could Chloe not be worried about him?’
She said, "You should go to the hospital for a check-up. I’ll go with you."
Miles shook his head. "I’m working on a project with Grant Corporation, and one of my subordinates wasn’t entirely honest. I came here specifically to apologize to him."
"Did you hear that? I didn’t force him," Walker Grant said, his gaze dark as he looked at her. "Chloe, come here."
But Chloe Reed ignored him, looking instead at Miles. "So, are you done drinking?"
Miles’s gaze fell to the coffee table.
There on the coffee table sat three more bottles of liquor, all of them high-proof.
’If he drinks all of that, something will definitely happen to him.’
Chloe Reed slowly straightened up. She refused to believe that Walker Grant hadn’t schemed against Miles.
’Miles helped her file for divorce, so now Walker was retaliating against him.’
’This was just an excuse.’
’Ultimately, she was the one who had dragged Miles into this.’
’So how could she let him suffer alone?’
Chloe Reed looked at Walker Grant, her limpid eyes icy. "If these bottles are finished, will you drop the issue with his subordinate?"
’Since he’d found an excuse, she would play along with it.’
Walker Grant’s eyes darkened. "Chloe, what do you think you’re doing?"
Chloe Reed’s lip curled. "Answer my question."
Walker Grant remained silent, but his face grew darker. A shadow seemed to pass over his features, and the air around him grew cold.
As if he knew what she was about to do, Miles quickly said, "Chloe Reed, don’t be a fool."
Chloe Reed turned her head, smiled at him, and said, "I’m sorry."
Her apology was sincere.
’She had gotten him into this mess.’
Then, she picked up a bottle of liquor and began to drink straight from it.
Walker Grant shot to his feet, snatched the bottle from her hand, and slammed it onto the floor. The bottle shattered, splashing liquor everywhere.
"Are you crazy?! You’re not feeling well, and you’re drinking?" Walker Grant snarled, grabbing her wrist and yanking her in front of him.
Chloe Reed’s eyelashes fluttered violently. "The mistake his subordinate made," she said, "is it settled now?"
