Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 237: Chloe Reed, Don’t Give Up
A vein throbbed on Walker Grant’s temple. He gripped her wrist, his eyes fixed on the mocking smile on her face. He nodded. "You’d go this far for him?"
She had ignored his warnings and insisted on meeting with Preston Vance.
And now, for Miles Hawthorne’s sake, she was even disregarding her own health.
But toward him, and him alone, she was cold and heartless.
’And she used to say she loved him!’
Hah!
’How absurd!’
Walker Grant looked at Miles Hawthorne, his gaze bone-chillingly cold. "You’re not going to let a woman take the fall for you, are you?"
Chloe Reed’s breathing grew ragged. "Walker Grant, you can’t keep doing this! If he drinks all of it, something terrible will happen to him!"
But Walker Grant ignored her, his eyes fixed on Miles Hawthorne instead.
Everyone present knew perfectly well why things had escalated to this point.
Miles Hawthorne had recovered a bit. He had clearly already drunk a fair amount; his face was flushed, and his eyes were a little hazy, but he remained lucid.
"Of course not."
With that, he picked up a bottle of hard liquor and began to drink again.
"No, you can’t!"
Seeing this, Chloe Reed tried to rush forward and stop him!
But Walker Grant wrapped an arm around her waist, his limb like a chain that held her fast. She couldn’t break free, let alone get near Miles Hawthorne.
Tears streamed down Chloe Reed’s face as she watched helplessly while Miles Hawthorne downed the entire bottle of high-proof liquor.
’It’s all my fault.’
’I dragged him into this!’
Her resolve began to waver.
’Forget it.’
’I’ll drop the lawsuit.’
’I’ll just have to make do.’
’A life is a life, no matter how you live it, right?’
With a soft thud, Miles Hawthorne placed the empty bottle on the coffee table and looked at her.
"Chloe Reed, don’t worry. I’ll be fine. I won’t abandon my subordinate so easily, and the work she’s doing can’t be left half-finished."
He spoke slowly, as if he knew exactly what she was thinking.
With that, he turned and rushed to the bathroom. A moment later, the sound of retching echoed out.
Chloe Reed’s whole body was trembling, and tears welled in her eyes.
Walker Grant’s expression was grim. Seeing her look of sorrow and self-blame, he reached out and wiped away her tears.
"There’s one more bottle. If you don’t want him to keep drinking, then convince him to have his subordinate drop what she’s doing," he said slowly. His tone was mild, but it sent a chill down her spine.
Chloe Reed raised her hand to slap him, but he caught her wrist in a tight grip.
He pulled her down onto the sofa, took out a tissue, and wiped the tears clean from her face.
"Chloe, the choice is yours."
Walker Grant said softly. His actions were gentle, yet she felt as though she were suffocating.
Chloe Reed trembled, a clear flicker of hatred in her eyes.
Walker Grant saw it clearly. His breath hitched, and for a moment, he thought he was hallucinating. He stared straight into her eyes. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
He needed to be sure—did she truly hate him?
But Chloe Reed averted her gaze and said in a hoarse voice, "I won’t interfere in what’s between you two."
After a pause, her tone grew even colder. "But if anything happens to him, I will never forgive you."
Walker Grant let out a low chuckle. "So worried about him, are you?"
She heard the dangerous edge in his voice.
Just then, Miles Hawthorne stumbled out. He was a complete mess, but a faint smile still played on his lips.
He looked at Walker Grant and said, "I’m starting to regret it. I wish I had never given you that love letter."
Back then, Chloe Reed had been lingering outside the men’s dorm, nervously clutching a love letter. He had thought it was amusing and decided to deliver it to Walker Grant for her.
’What if he hadn’t delivered it?’
’Would things have turned out differently?’
He bore some of the responsibility for the chain of events that had led to this moment.
