Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 245: Chloe, Are You and Walker Having Problems?
The dishes were served, all of them to Grandma’s liking.
Chloe Reed was on edge the entire time.
Her eyes kept darting to Walker Grant, waiting for him to say something. If he did, she was ready to stop him.
To her surprise, he didn’t say what she was dreading. He just made small talk with Grandma.
After dinner, they returned to Jardinelle together. The housekeeper had already prepared the guest room, so Grandma would be staying there.
Chloe Reed said, "I’ll sleep with you tonight."
"Alright," Grandma said, nodding with a smile.
Chloe went upstairs to get her pajamas, but just as she was about to leave, Walker Grant blocked the doorway.
She eyed him warily. "What are you doing?"
Walker Grant crossed his arms. His long, narrow eyes were dark and his voice was low. "You looked at me a lot during dinner."
Chloe said, "So?"
Walker’s gaze fell to her lips. "It left me parched. I want to kiss you."
Chloe was speechless.
’This man is seriously sick in the head!’
Her expression turned cold. "We’re in the middle of a divorce, Walker. If you’re lonely, you can go find Sunny Reed, or any other woman for that matter. I won’t stop you."
Walker’s expression darkened instantly.
’She’s pushing me away again!’
He said coldly, "Chloe, I don’t like hearing that."
An icy aura spread from him, and his gaze turned chillingly cold.
Chloe wanted to retort with a sarcastic remark, but she was still a little intimidated by him, so she held her tongue. "It’s getting late," she said instead. "I need to go to Grandma."
But Walker said, "Even if you don’t go right away, Grandma will just assume we’re... getting intimate."
Chloe was so angry she couldn’t speak.
She glared at him, gritting her teeth, looking as if she wanted to tear him to shreds.
Walker tapped his own cheek. "Give me a kiss, and I won’t be angry anymore."
Chloe didn’t say a word, simply walking toward him.
Walker raised an eyebrow slightly, a spark lighting up his eyes.
She came to a stop before him and rose onto her tiptoes, as if to kiss him.
Walker’s breathing grew heavier. Her taking the initiative was like an aphrodisiac.
He could even feel her soft breath brushing against his cheek.
The next second, Chloe threw the door open, spun around, and bolted.
Walker was still waiting, but like a gust of wind, she was gone.
His expression went blank for a second. Then, he turned to look downstairs. Hearing the guest room door click shut, he let out a low chuckle.
...
After showering in the guest room, Chloe threw back the covers and dove right into her grandma’s arms.
"Grandma, I just love hugging you."
She sighed, nuzzling against her.
Her grandmother couldn’t stop smiling at how affectionate she was. "And why is that?"
"I don’t know," Chloe said after a moment’s thought. "I just feel so safe when I’m hugging you."
Grandma stroked her head. "Then you can just keep hugging me."
Then, she asked, "Chloe, is something wrong between you and Walker?"
Chloe’s breath hitched. ’I can’t believe Grandma is this perceptive!’
She lifted her head to look at her grandma. "You could tell?"
"Yes," Grandma nodded. "You two were never like this before. You used to be inseparable, always all over each other. Your eyes were always on him, filled with so much affection it was practically tangible. But today, I saw it. The way you look at him is cold. Chloe, did he do something to hurt you?"
An old woman like her had been through too much and seen too much; it was easy for her to tell the difference between true affection and a mere act.
Those few short sentences made Chloe’s heart ache. She lowered her head again, pressing her face against her grandma’s chest.
