Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 3: Don’t Regret Divorcing Me
Walker Grant’s expression was cold and grim, his dark eyes glinting with a sharp chill. In a low voice, he said, "Chloe, don’t regret divorcing me."
Chloe Reed’s eyelashes trembled fiercely. "Just sign it," she said.
’How could I possibly regret it?’
’Am I supposed to wait up every night for him to return from the side of that mother and son?’
’I’m not that magnanimous.’
’On the contrary, I’m incredibly petty.’
’I tolerated this for so long—two whole years—because I loved him. I thought I’d shown more than enough sincerity.’
’But he took my heart, treated it like garbage, and tossed it aside without a second thought.’
’In that case, I might as well not offer it anymore.’
She watched Walker Grant sign. His well-defined hand gripped the pen and scrawled his name. She stepped forward and took the divorce agreement.
"Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow. Be there."
She turned and left.
Noah Grant was still crying softly. Walker Grant looked down at him and said, "Noah, big boys don’t cry. A real man can defeat the Big Bad Wolf."
Noah Grant’s eyes were still brimming with tears, but hearing this, he choked back a sob and said, "I want to be a real man and defeat the Big Bad Wolf."
"Mm, good boy."
Walker Grant’s lips curved in praise, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
Sunny Reed said, her voice full of self-reproach, "It’s all my fault. I was wrong. I just panicked so much when Noah suddenly spiked a fever that I had no idea what to do. And now Chloe wants to divorce you. Walker, you should go after her. I can look after Noah."
"No need."
Walker Grant said in a heavy tone, "Getting upset with a child... She’s so immature. This will be a lesson for her."
But Sunny Reed said, "But she wants to divorce you."
"She won’t."
Walker Grant’s tone was incredibly certain. "Sunny, you should head back. I’ll stay here and look after Noah."
But Sunny Reed shook her head. "How could I do that? I’m Noah’s mother. It wouldn’t be right for me to leave."
Walker Grant didn’t say anything more. He just lowered his gaze. Though his tone had been certain, a sudden, baseless panic flared in his heart.
Chloe had thrown tantrums over Noah in the past, but all it took was a little coaxing and she would be fine.
She’d never mentioned divorce before, though.
’But this time she did. Has she escalated her tactics?’
’What is she after this time?’
...
With the signed divorce agreement in hand, a weight lifted from Chloe Reed’s heart. She went home, opened a bottle of wine, and drank the entire thing before finally going to bed.
When she woke up the next day, she felt a heavy weight around her waist. A clean, pleasant scent filled the air, and she realized a man’s warm body was pressed against her back.
Her body stiffened. She turned over and saw him; he had returned at some point during the night and was now fast asleep beside her.
He was holding her in an intimate embrace.
’But we just signed the divorce papers last night.’
Chloe Reed’s lips pressed into a thin line as she looked at his handsome face, peaceful in sleep. She had fallen in love with him at first sight.
Later, she had saved him during an earthquake, and their paths began to cross more and more. After they ended up at the same university, he had confessed his feelings, saying he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
’At the time, I even laughed at how silly he was.’
’Who promises forever the moment you start dating?’
’And yet, my heart had pounded like crazy. We started dating, got married right after graduation, and I truly believed we would spend the rest of our lives together.’
’But now, his heart is no longer mine. It has been completely captured by that mother and son.’
’I am a petty person. If someone else weighs more heavily in his heart than I do, then I don’t want him anymore.’
