Chapter 4: Chapter 4: He Accompanied His Widowed Sister-in-Law Throughout Her Pregnancy

Chloe Reed blinked, forcing back the sting in her eyes.

Just then, her phone vibrated. A new email had arrived. After tapping it open, Chloe Reed’s eyes widened in disbelief.

There were dozens of photos, and every single one showed Walker Grant by Sunny Reed’s side.

When Sunny’s belly was just starting to show, he was with her at the obstetrician’s office.

As Sunny’s belly grew larger, he was with her, strolling through the park...

When Sunny gave birth, he was there, waiting outside the delivery room.

Every photo was timestamped, all taken in the year Sunny gave birth.

That was the year he was supposedly on frequent business trips. It wasn’t just for the birth.

He had even been with Sunny for her entire pregnancy!

And right now, this same man was lying beside her, holding her in a possessive, domineering embrace.

A heart-wrenching, bone-deep pain, delayed but devastating, washed over her. The tears she had fought so hard to suppress finally broke free.

’They had been together for eight years. Had he ever truly loved her?’

Chloe Reed shot up and slapped Walker Grant across the face.

The sting woke Walker. He was about to erupt in anger, but then he saw the tears on her face.

"Chloe."

Walker’s heart tightened. He sat up and gripped her shoulders. "What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

"Walker Grant, let’s go get a divorce."

She looked down and pulled away, avoiding his hands.

Walker’s tone became even gentler. "Chloe, what on earth happened? Why the sudden talk of divorce? Aren’t things fine between us?"

"Stop messing around, okay?"

Chloe’s tears had already stopped. Hearing his words, she asked, "You think I’m throwing a tantrum?"

Walker didn’t speak. His silence said it all. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Chloe suddenly felt a wave of powerlessness, like punching cotton.

’He thinks I’m just jealous. He’ll come back, placate me a little, and then we’ll go back to normal? So he can keep running back and forth between me and Sunny Reed? Is that it?’

Chloe unlocked the screen and threw the phone in front of him.

"Walker Grant, that year you were constantly on ’business trips,’ you said it was because your older brother had passed away, the stock prices were unstable, and you needed to negotiate deals."

"But what was the truth? You were with her for her entire pregnancy."

"What is she to you? Doesn’t she have parents? Doesn’t she have in-laws? Why did her brother-in-law have to be the one there for her? You tell me, why?!"

Chloe had thought she would be hysterical, that she would lose her mind.

But in reality, she spoke with a calm that was utterly devoid of emotion.

Her eyes held a mocking glint. "Or is it that the Grant family wants to follow some old country custom? The older brother dies, so the younger one steps in to take over his duties."

"Chloe Reed!"

Walker shouted her name, his expression darkening.

’She was never supposed to find out about this. I’ll have to investigate this thoroughly.’

Walker let out a soft sigh and said, "My older brother’s death was sudden. My parents couldn’t accept it, they were both grieving. How could they have had the energy to take care of her? As for her own parents..."

He paused, his tone growing more complicated. "You dislike her, and you don’t want her getting close to your parents, so she didn’t dare tell them about any of it."

"Alright, stop making a scene. I was only looking after her and the baby for my brother’s sake. Don’t let your imagination run wild."
