"You’re on the right track."

Walker Grant walked over to her. Seeing her so lost in serious thought, the corner of his lip curled up. "I looked into her parents’ records. They died abroad, but the specific cause of death hasn’t been found yet. However, Charles Reed and Autumn Linton were traveling with them at the time."

Chloe Reed’s eyes instantly lit up. "Right? It must be. Why else would they be so devoted to Sunny Reed?"

"Mm-hmm." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Walker Grant sat down beside her. "But what good does knowing this do now?" he asked in a low voice.

"It just answers a question I’ve had," Chloe Reed said, lowering her gaze. She had always needed to understand why Charles Reed and Autumn Linton doted on Sunny Reed so much—to an almost absurd degree.

Now, it all made sense.

’It was because they felt they owed a debt, so they were desperately trying to make amends.’

’And a debt they’d try that desperately to repay... had to involve a life.’

Watching her lost in thought, Walker Grant felt a sharp pang in his chest. ’She’s figured out this part of it,’ he thought, ’but she doesn’t know the rest.’

’Why does Sunny Reed want to turn the Reed family upside down?’

’She hasn’t thought too deeply about that part.’

’Then again, it’s probably better that she doesn’t. That way, she won’t have to know the evil in people’s hearts.’

Chloe Reed turned to look at him. "You’re back so soon?"

"I told you I’d be back soon," Walker Grant said. "I couldn’t rest easy leaving you here alone."

At his words, Chloe Reed thought of the danger he’d mentioned and didn’t press the issue.

She said, "You should go rest somewhere else. There’s only one sofa, and it’s only big enough for one person."

"Says who?"

Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. He pressed on her shoulder, guiding her to lie on her side facing the back of the sofa. Then, he lay down beside her, his large body pressing in so close it nearly squeezed her into the sofa itself.

Chloe Reed’s eyes widened. "Are you serious about sleeping like this?"

His arm wrapped around her. Seeing her stunned expression, he smirked. "Isn’t this perfect?"

But Chloe Reed’s face darkened. "It is not perfect at all. It’s cramped. I can’t even turn over."

Walker Grant let out a soft laugh. "Let’s just make do for one night. Tomorrow, I’ll get a room at a nearby hotel so we can be at the hospital whenever we need to."

"Then go get a room now instead of squeezing in here with me." Chloe pushed at him. "I have no desire to ’make do’ with you."

Instead, Walker Grant held her tighter. "If you push any harder, we’re both going to fall off."

Chloe Reed could feel his strength. She didn’t want to fall onto the floor, but she didn’t want to be crammed together with him like this either.

Her expression turning cold, she said, "Let go of me. I’m going to the restroom."

Walker Grant raised an eyebrow, then got up and watched her go into the restroom.

However, when she came out, she sat right down in a chair, making it clear she wasn’t going to squeeze onto the sofa with him.

Walker Grant chuckled softly but didn’t force the issue, simply lying down on the sofa.

The sofa was a two-seater, and a small one at that. At six-foot-one, he was definitely cramming himself onto it.

But he showed no sign of getting up, simply closing his eyes and starting to sleep.

The night grew deeper, and the hour grew late.

Walker Grant opened his eyes. He saw she had fallen asleep, her head resting on the edge of the hospital bed. The way her face was squished against it was surprisingly cute.

He got up, walked over, and leaned down to scoop her into his arms.

His movements were gentle enough not to wake her. He laid her down on the sofa, and she immediately rolled over to face the backrest, falling into an even deeper sleep.
