Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 445: They Are Making Up for It
"Aren’t I a scumbag?"
Walker Grant glanced at her, his tone infuriatingly nonchalant.
Iris Yates was at a loss for words, then she shot back, "You think just because Chloe needs you now, it erases all the bastardly things you’ve done in the past? There’s a child here, so I won’t say anything too harsh, but you know damn well what kind of person you are!"
After tearing into him, she turned to run.
Walker Grant’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "I think I’d better contact William Quinn," he said.
Iris Yates froze in her tracks. A feeling of dread washed over her.
She slapped her forehead. ’How could I have been so careless!’
’I can’t believe I forgot that damn scumbag was still threatening me!’
Iris Yates sighed, then turned back to him. "Mr. Grant, please, be the bigger person. Just pretend everything I just said was hot air. It was classless of me. Please don’t take it to heart."
Walker Grant said with a smirk that didn’t reach his eyes, "Well, you certainly are classless."
Iris Yates: "..."
’She was really about to lose it!’
Chloe Reed said, "Alright, you can go. He won’t tell on you."
Iris Yates let out a sigh of relief and turned to leave.
Chloe Reed looked at him, asking in confusion, "Why did you bring her here?"
Walker Grant said, "From now on, I’ll be keeping him by my side at all times."
Hearing this, Noah, who was standing nearby, was overjoyed, his eyes lighting up.
Chloe Reed thought for a moment but didn’t say anything more. She sat by the hospital bed, holding her grandmother’s dry hand. Feeling the warmth of her palm, Chloe’s heart felt like it was breaking.
’It was all her fault!’
’It was all because of her!’
’If she had stopped her grandmother from going to see Autumn Linton, would any of this have happened?’
’How heartbroken and despairing must her grandmother feel, being poisoned by her own daughter?’
Chloe Reed buried her face in her grandmother’s palm, tears streaming uncontrollably.
After a long while, she looked up and found a few tissues held out in front of her.
A small hand was holding the tissues, and its owner was looking at her with concern.
Chloe Reed paused for a moment, her long eyelashes trembling. She took the tissues and wiped away her tears.
Walker Grant said, "Your grandmother will be okay."
The words were feeble and hollow.
Chloe Reed didn’t respond, simply gazing quietly at the unconscious old woman.
As the night grew darker, Chloe Reed said, "You should go home. I’ll stay here tonight."
Walker Grant said, "I’ll stay with you."
But Chloe Reed said, "You can stay with me, but what about him?"
By now, Noah had slumped over on Walker Grant’s lap, fast asleep.
The little guy couldn’t stay up late at all.
Walker Grant glanced down, frowning slightly. He then picked Noah up and said, "I’ll be right back."
With that, he left, carrying Noah.
...
Chloe Reed curled up on the sofa, but she wasn’t the least bit sleepy. She kept wondering why Autumn Linton and Charles Reed cared so much about Sunny Reed—so much that they didn’t even care about her grandmother’s life.
’What hidden story is there that I don’t know about?’
Just as her thoughts were running wild, Walker Grant pushed open the door and walked back in. He was quick. Seeing her pale face, he frowned. "If you keep this up, not only will your grandmother not get better, but you’ll collapse from exhaustion. That’s not what she would want to see."
Chloe Reed sat up and stared at him intently. "Do you know who Sunny Reed’s parents were? What they did for a living? How they died?"
At her words, Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "Is this what you’ve been thinking about?"
Chloe Reed grew even more serious. "I’ve thought about it carefully. Maybe Sunny Reed’s parents died because of Charles Reed and the others. That’s why they’re so tolerant and partial toward Sunny—they’re atoning for their mistake."
