Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 457: Sunny Reed Wavers, But It’s Too Late
She looked at Charles Reed, choking out, "Dad..."
She was overcome with emotion. She had always resented Charles Reed and Autumn Linton, believing they had destroyed the happy family she once had.
That was why, for all these years, she had been deliberately sowing discord in their family, turning them against their own child.
And she had succeeded.
Her next step was to drive a wedge between Charles Reed and Autumn Linton themselves.
But now, learning of this, she began to waver.
’I’ve already lost my parents. Do I have to destroy Charles Reed and Autumn Linton, who have been so good to me, as well?’
Sunny Reed was torn, caught in a spiral of hesitation.
Charles Reed patted her hand reassuringly. "Sunny, you’ll be alright," he said gently. "Don’t worry."
Chloe Reed watched this unfold. Her gaze swept over Sunny Reed’s face, and she instantly understood what the other girl was thinking.
She let out a soft, humorless laugh and looked at Sunny Reed. "What’s this? Thinking of living a quiet life now? Done with your scheming and plotting for revenge?"
Sunny Reed’s eyes darted away as she hurriedly denied it. "What are you talking about?"
Charles Reed frowned. "What revenge?"
Chloe Reed just said, "I’m not going to waste my breath. You wouldn’t believe me anyway. Luckily, I made a recording at the time. I’ll be sure to play it for you and Autumn Linton later."
Hearing this, Sunny Reed’s eyes flew wide in disbelief. She never would have imagined that Chloe Reed would have thought to record their conversation at such a critical moment!
"No!"
She shook her head over and over, her lips trembling, unable to form any other words.
She looked at Chloe Reed with a pleading gaze, hoping she wouldn’t play the recording.
’I’ve already lost my parents. I can’t lose my adoptive parents too!’
But Chloe Reed just coolly withdrew her gaze and looked at Charles Reed. "Give me the antidote."
Susan Bowman grabbed Charles Reed’s hand, tears streaming down her face. "Give it to her! Give her the antidote! She’s too vicious... Sunny can’t suffer like that!"
Susan Bowman was utterly terrified by Chloe Reed’s description of what would happen when the poison took full effect.
Charles Reed took a small pouch from his pocket but didn’t give it to Chloe Reed immediately. Instead, he looked at her. "Where is Sunny’s antidote?"
Chloe Reed glanced at Walker Grant.
Walker Grant spoke up. "Give us Grandma’s antidote first. We need to know if it’s real before we can make the trade."
"What if I give it to you, and you don’t give me hers?" Charles Reed countered.
"I’ll give it to you," Chloe Reed said, her tone flat. "Because more than wanting her dead, I want to see every last one of you living a fate worse than death."
"No..."
Sunny Reed kept shaking her head. She wished she could just die right then and there!
’That way, even if my adoptive parents found out the truth, they wouldn’t truly hate me.’
’Who would hold a grudge against a dead person, after all?’
Charles Reed, however, just stared at Chloe Reed. He had watched this daughter grow up. When she was little, she was so delicate and lovely; he had treated her like a little princess, cherishing her completely. But later, she had grown increasingly spoiled and willful. Now, she seemed like a total stranger to him.
He gave her the antidote.
A smile touched Chloe Reed’s lips. "Alright, now it’s my turn to give you your ’gift’. Autumn Linton has been missing her terribly. Why don’t you take her upstairs to see her?"
"No, I don’t want to..."
Sunny Reed resisted, but the poison had left her weak. She had no strength and could only be dragged into the hospital by the bodyguards.
As they approached the hospital room, Sunny Reed felt as if she could see her entire future laid out before her.
’Charles Reed and Autumn Linton would learn her true colors, become disgusted and disappointed with her, and then throw her out of the house...’
’If that happened, she would truly have nothing left!’
