Chapter 499: Chapter 499: You Asked for It

Walker Grant’s heavy breaths washed over her. He had torn off her nightgown and tossed it directly under the bed.

His large hand gripped her waist, the force a little too strong. The imprints of his fingers quickly appeared on her fair skin.

"Chloe Reed, you brought this on yourself."

"..."

A night of entanglement.

Afterward, Walker Grant carried her to the shower, applied her face cream and body lotion, then held her as they went to sleep.

The next afternoon, Chloe Reed and Walker Grant went to see Miles Hawthorne again.

He had wasted away to skin and bones, but he was still alive.

Since they hadn’t gotten anything out of him, Walker Grant wasn’t about to let him die.

His eyes were downcast and his breathing was faint as he hung suspended in mid-air. The room was thick with the smell of blood.

Chloe Reed held a handgun, practicing her aim, and asked again, "Who sent you?"

Miles Hawthorne remained silent.

Walker Grant commented from the side, "The Hawthorne family is very unstable right now. I’ve been watching, waiting for the right time to make my move. I might just carve up a bigger share of the profits and wealth then."

He regarded Miles Hawthorne impassively. "Are you going to take this secret to your grave, or are you going to save your family? Think carefully. If you make the wrong choice, your family might not have a very good time of it."

Miles Hawthorne’s expression finally changed. He lifted his eyelids to look at them, his voice extremely hoarse as he spoke, "You’ve been in contact with Sean Miller, haven’t you?"

Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "That’s right. He’s already in Breyburn."

"I want to see him."

Miles Hawthorne said hoarsely, "Just let me see him, and I’ll tell you everything you want to know."

Walker Grant chuckled. "Fine."

He took Chloe Reed’s hand. "Come on. We’ll wait outside."

Once they were out of the basement, she asked, "Are you really having Sean Miller come here?"

"Of course he’s coming," Walker Grant said. "If they don’t meet, how will we move things forward?"

Chloe Reed didn’t quite understand him. "Can you please be a little clearer?"

Walker Grant said, "You’ll know soon enough."

He arranged for Sean Miller to be brought over. Before letting him into the basement, he had his men give Sean a strip-search—the kind that checks everything, inside and out. No suspicious items were allowed.

Sean Miller protested, but it was useless.

He now understood Miles Hawthorne’s predicament; Miles had indeed been exposed.

He adjusted his glasses, his face grim, and asked, "Are you done? Can I go see him now?"

Walker Grant raised an eyebrow, his eyes landing on the man’s glasses. "I quite like your glasses," he said. "How about you let me borrow them for a bit?"

"You!"

Sean Miller’s expression darkened. "Walker Grant, aren’t you afraid our boss will come after you for this?"

"I wish he would," Walker Grant scoffed, his eyes turning icy. "Go on. You two haven’t seen each other in a while. I’m sure you have plenty to talk about."

A bodyguard led Sean Miller to the room where Miles Hawthorne was being held.

Walker Grant led Chloe Reed into another room. Inside, there were monitors of all sizes, each one displaying the scene from a different room.

And on the largest monitor, right in the center, was the scene from Miles Hawthorne’s room.

The surveillance provided a 360-degree view, with no blind spots.

Sean Miller walked into the room, but a bodyguard stopped him ten meters from Miles Hawthorne.

Sean Miller was utterly shocked. "How did you get like this?!"

Miles Hawthorne looked at him and said, "What did the boss say?"

Sean Miller glanced around cautiously, then started moving toward him.

"Stop!"

The bodyguard immediately blocked his path, stopping him from getting any closer to Miles Hawthorne.
