Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Noah Grant Is Actually Your Child

Chloe Reed let out a cold laugh. "Of course I’m not going to jump to conclusions."

"We’re getting a divorce anyway. Let’s go. Let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau right now."

"I don’t care even if you tell me Noah Grant is your son."

"You..." Walker Grant’s expression turned glacial.

"We’ll talk about this after you’ve calmed down."

He strode out of the room, the door slamming shut with a tremendous noise.

After he left, Chloe Reed glanced at the photo on the wall, then tore it down and smashed it.

The glass shattered, splitting the image of her and Walker Grant in two.

Just as she smashed the photo, her phone rang. It was her mother.

"Chloe, dear, you haven’t forgotten what today is, have you?"

Chloe Reed checked the calendar on her phone and only then remembered: it was her father’s birthday.

"Of course I remember. It’s Dad’s birthday. I bought his gift ages ago and was just about to head over," she said, forcing a cheerful tone.

Autumn Linton’s voice was gentle. "I knew you wouldn’t forget. Drive safely on your way back, dear. We’ll be waiting for you."

"Okay, I will."

After hanging up, Chloe Reed quickly washed her face and got ready.

The woman in the mirror had red, swollen eyes and a haggard expression. She looked like a shrew.

’The Miss of the Reed family shouldn’t look like this.’

She put on some makeup and applied a layer of lipstick.

Nearly two hours passed before she finally emerged from the bathroom. But just then, her phone rang again.

It was Autumn Linton again.

"Chloe, your father says he doesn’t want to celebrate his birthday this year. He thinks it’s too much trouble, so don’t bother coming over."

’Not celebrating, just like that?’

’But just a moment ago, she was so concerned about whether I’d forgotten.’

Then, a thought occurred to her, and her eyes grew cold.

"Fine, I understand. I’ll have someone drop the gift off. I’m actually not feeling well, so I won’t come over today after all."

"Alright, you get some rest then," Autumn Linton said before hanging up.

Though the light makeup she’d applied concealed her haggard, pale appearance and restored a bit of her spirit, her eyes were exceptionally cold as she gripped her car keys tightly.

She turned, walked out the door, and drove to the Reed family estate.

The weather was clear and bright. As soon as she pulled into the driveway, she could hear cheerful laughter coming from the living room.

A nearby servant saw her and looked terrified.

"Second Miss..."

"You’ve made a mistake. I’m docking your pay." Chloe Reed got out of the car, a gift box in her hand. "The Reed family has only one Miss. Remember that."

The servant nodded, trembling.

Chloe Reed walked straight inside. Past the entryway, she saw a heartwarming scene in the living room.

Her father, Charles Reed, was wearing a birthday hat with a little boy sitting in his lap. Her mother, Autumn Linton, sat beside them, amusing the boy with a toy.

And Sunny Reed was busy taking pictures with her phone.

"Dad, Mom, Noah, look over here! I’m taking a picture of you. Aww... it’s a shame Big Brother isn’t home, or we could take a proper family photo."

At her words, they all looked up.

At the same time, they saw Chloe Reed standing in the doorway.

"Chloe... What are you doing back here?" The toy in Autumn Linton’s hand dropped to the floor, her face a mixture of panic and astonishment.

She stood and walked over to her. "Weren’t you feeling unwell?"

Chloe Reed watched them with cold eyes, a sarcastic sneer gracing her delicate features. "If I hadn’t come, how would I have known you were all celebrating a birthday so happily together?"
