Iris Yates said, "Let’s talk in person."

"Okay, where are you? I’ll come find you." Chloe Reed had to see Iris. She had to ask what on earth was going on!

The two arranged a place to meet. Chloe Reed quickly took a shower, changed her clothes, and drove straight to see Iris.

Meanwhile, Walker Grant had also learned about the situation. He held his phone, listening to Nathaniel Monroe analyze it over the call.

"Walker, I’ve thought this through carefully. This is the only way to get rid of that madman now. Your wife definitely doesn’t want Iris to get dragged into this mess, right? So I talked it over with Iris. We’ll get married. That should solve the problem once and for all."

Walker Grant’s tone grew heavy. "Since you know he’s a madman, have you considered what he might do when he finds out you’ve deceived him?"

Nathaniel Monroe was silent for two seconds before replying, "He’s not going to steal my wife, is he? This is Breyburn, not his mercenary group’s main base. It’s not a place where he can just do whatever he wants!"

Walker Grant closed his eyes for a moment. "Nathaniel Monroe, this has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to get involved."

"Who says it has nothing to do with me? I’ve known Iris for a long time. As a friend, shouldn’t I help her out?" Nathaniel Monroe argued reasonably. "Besides, it’s just a fake marriage. Once this is all over, we’ll get a divorce. It won’t stop either of us from getting married for real later."

"Fine. As long as you’ve thought it through."

With that, Walker Grant hung up the phone.

After they met, Iris explained to Chloe Reed how she had come to her decision.

After listening, Chloe Reed pressed her temples and asked, "Does Nathaniel Monroe really not like you?"

Iris shook her head. "I’ve confirmed it several times. He really doesn’t like me, which is why I felt comfortable enough to consider his proposal."

"But what’s in it for him?"

Chloe Reed had asked almost the exact same question as Iris.

Iris threw up her hands. "He said his family has been pressuring him to get married, so this is just a temporary way to deal with them. He’ll get a few years of peace and quiet."

Chloe Reed frowned slightly. "How many years did you agree on?"

Iris said, "Two years, I think. After two years, that William Quinn guy will have probably forgotten about me."

"I see."

Chloe Reed nodded, then asked again, "Iris, have you really thought this through? Marriage isn’t a game, and getting a divorce isn’t that simple either. What if something unexpected happens, like he refuses to divorce you? You could end up in the same situation I’m in now."

She was extremely worried, so she laid out the worst-case scenario first.

But Iris said, "He doesn’t like me, so why wouldn’t he want a divorce?"

Chloe Reed nodded. "You have a point." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

They were just partners in this, with no romantic feelings involved. It probably wouldn’t get that complicated.

Still, she couldn’t help but sigh. "It’s just so sudden, getting married just like that."

Iris took a sip of her milk tea and said, "I never thought I’d get married so soon, especially not like this. Fate, huh? It’s so unpredictable."

Chloe Reed asked, "Are you getting engaged first, or going straight to the wedding?"

"Straight to the wedding," Iris said. "And it’ll just be a simple banquet for family and friends. I don’t want it to be too extravagant. What if it’s too high-profile and he finds out?"

Actually, if it were up to her, she wouldn’t even have a wedding. Keeping a low profile was the top priority.

But her parents would never agree to that.

They had been waiting so long for their daughter to get married; not throwing a huge, lavish celebration just wasn’t their style!
