Chapter 508: As Long as I Can Stay by My Son’s Side
Sunny Reed was playing a game with Noah.
Noah had taken a partial antidote and was awake now. But he was extremely weak, his little face unusually pale, and he had no energy, so he could only nestle in Sunny Reed’s arms.
Noah felt awful. He was nauseous and his head ached, but he didn’t want to leave his mother, so he said nothing. He was afraid that if he did, his Little Uncle would send him to the hospital, and then he wouldn’t be able to see his mom anymore.
It had been so hard for him to finally see his mom.
When the butler came to announce that Walker Grant wanted to see Sunny Reed, Noah immediately grabbed her hand. He looked at the butler and asked timidly, "Can I go with her?"
The butler said gently, "Young Master, you should rest since you’re not feeling well. The Young Mistress will be with you the whole time."
Noah’s eyes lit up. "Really?"
He’d thought his Little Uncle had come to drive his mother away this time.
The butler nodded. "Yes, so you don’t need to worry." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Only then did Noah relax and let go of her hand.
Panic flared in Sunny Reed’s heart, but after a glance at Noah’s pale little face, she calmed down slightly.
’As long as he can’t get the antidote, Walker Grant won’t do anything to me. There’s no need to be afraid!’
Sunny Reed got up and followed the butler downstairs.
In the living room were not only Walker Grant, but also Nathaniel Monroe and another woman she didn’t recognize.
She felt the woman looked familiar, but she couldn’t place her for the life of her.
Sunny Reed looked at Walker Grant warily and asked, "What do you want with me?"
Walker Grant said coolly, "Sit."
Feeling extremely defensive, Sunny Reed didn’t sit down immediately. Instead, she asked, "What is it you really want?"
"Heh... I’ve never seen a woman as heartless and disgusting as you. Where do you get the nerve to act so self-righteous?" Nathaniel Monroe couldn’t hold back, his words dripping with sarcasm from the start.
He used to respect Julian Grant, so he had been very respectful to Sunny Reed as well. But after everything that happened later, Sunny always seemed to be the wronged party. He had even resented Chloe Reed at one point, wondering why she was always targeting Sunny.
But now, it was clear that Sunny Reed was just a venomous, black-hearted woman!
She poisoned her own son and used it as leverage to stay by Noah’s side.
What kind of mother could do such a thing?
Nathaniel Monroe felt he must have been blind before to have actually pitied and sympathized with this malicious woman!
Tears immediately streamed down Sunny Reed’s face. She spoke in a weak and pitiful voice, "What choice did I have? You people backed me into a corner. I just want to stay with my son. You forced me to do this!"
"Disgusting."
Nathaniel Monroe found even looking at her for a second longer to be irritating. He averted his gaze, refusing to get entangled with her.
Sunny Reed sobbed, wiping her tears as she looked at Walker Grant. "If you called me down here just to humiliate me, then go ahead. I don’t care anymore. As long as I can stay with my son, nothing else matters!"
"SNAP!"
Suddenly, the sharp sound of a finger snap rang out.
Sunny Reed’s attention was subconsciously drawn to the sound. Her vision blurred for a moment, and an antique pocket watch appeared before her. Its hands were ticking away—TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK. The sound was crisp, and it seemed to grow louder and louder in her ears.
"That’s right. Look at it. Keep looking at it. See what time it is." A soft voice, like a gentle breeze, drifted over, brushing lightly against her ear.
Sunny Reed’s gaze fell involuntarily on the pocket watch, her eyes following its rhythmic swing.
Gradually, her eyes began to lose focus.
