Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 537: The Groom May Now Kiss the Bride
Iris Yates lowered her eyes. ’She was cursing him out internally,’ but she had to keep playing along on the outside.
In the audience, Iris’s mom and dad were already moved beyond words, thinking what a wonderful son-in-law they had.
Iris had such good taste, finding someone who loved her on her very first marriage!
Chloe Reed sat down next to Walker Grant. Watching the scene unfold, her eyelashes fluttered. "Is Nathaniel Monroe in love with Iris?" she asked.
She looked at Walker Grant. As Nathaniel’s best friend, he had to know something.
Although she had verbally reassured Iris, her heart was filled with doubt.
Nathaniel Monroe’s behavior didn’t seem like an act at all. On the contrary, it seemed like he had genuinely caught feelings.
Walker Grant handed her a glass of juice. "Thirsty?"
Chloe Reed looked at him. "Is he or isn’t he?"
"Take a guess."
"..."
Chloe Reed shot him a look, in no mood for his silly games.
But in her heart, she was almost certain her guess was correct: Nathaniel Monroe was in love with Iris.
A complex look entered her eyes.
Nathaniel Monroe was helping Iris, protecting her.
His intentions were good.
But things always had a way of spiraling out of control.
’If William Quinn never shows up, if he forgets about Iris, then what will Nathaniel choose to do in two years when Iris asks for a divorce?’
’Is he that confident he can make Iris fall for him in two years, so she’d stop talking about divorce?’
Chloe Reed watched them walk onto the stage and stand in the spotlight, the center of everyone’s attention.
Suddenly, her hand was grasped. She turned to see Walker Grant gazing at her. "He’s very brave, isn’t he?"
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly and nodded. "Yes."
"Then let’s not say any more. Time will prove everything."
Chloe Reed said nothing, instead pulling her hand away.
The emcee began to say a few romantic words as the bride and groom stood facing each other.
After the "I do’s" were exchanged, it would be time to kiss the bride. The venue erupted in thunderous applause; everyone loved a good spectacle.
Nathaniel Monroe leaned in close and whispered, "Don’t you dare hit me. So many people are watching."
Iris’s breathing grew ragged. Kissing him with so many people watching felt incredibly awkward!
’If I had known, I would’ve gotten a veil. That way, I could have hidden behind it and we could have faked the kiss to avoid this embarrassment!’
She decided to just shut her eyes. ’If I can’t see, I won’t be nervous.’
’It’s just our lips touching. It’ll be over in a second!’
Iris kept trying to convince herself. Soon, she felt a breath on her cheek.
It was light, like a feather, drawing near, barely there.
Iris’s eyelashes fluttered. Her hand clutching the bouquet tightened, her palm growing sweaty.
The breath drew closer and closer. Just as it was about to touch her lips, a loud noise suddenly shattered the quiet atmosphere.
BANG!
Iris’s eyes flew open, and she whipped her head toward the source of the sound.
She saw that the previously closed doors of the venue had been kicked open, and several menacing figures were striding inside.
The man in the middle was holding a gun. He aimed it at the head on Nathaniel Monroe’s standee and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
The gunshot rang out, jolting everyone present. Screams erupted as the venue instantly descended into chaos.
William Quinn radiated a menacing aura. His blue eyes were locked on Iris in her wedding dress, a crazed smile spreading across his face as he aimed the pistol at them.
"Did I say you could get married?"
