Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Authority

[Before you summon the new boss monster, you should be aware that its Familiarity is currently minus 100.]

"Ohh, right... I totally didn’t notice that. What happens if a monster has negative familiarity?"

[From minus 1 to 300, the monster may occasionally act on its own but will still obey its master’s commands. From minus 301 to 600, the monster will begin to disobey orders. From minus 601 to 999, it enters a dangerous phase where it may harm its master. And once it reaches minus 1000, it can break free from the system and cause calamity to its surroundings.]

"So, Familiarity is actually very important."

[I advise you to summon the new monster inside a dungeon. It is highly risky to summon it under your current conditions.]

Oliver looked at Cannonyx’s details. If he could, he would summon it right away, but after hearing the system’s warning, doing so might destroy his house... or worse, injure his family. He did not want to take that risk.

"Alright. I will listen to your advice. Right now, what can I do is I have about 1500 Tamer Coins from taming Cannonyx... so it’s time for a pack opening!"

He immediately opened the [Emporium] menu and looked through the list of packs, after confirming that there were no interesting offers in the [Limited Offer] section. From the [Single Pack] menu, only nine were currently available.

"How about I try my luck with a slightly more expensive pack? Maybe I can get some very rare cards? Hmm... yes, I’ll do that. No need to be stingy right now. Every rare card will greatly boost my strength."

Oliver chose the [Trail of Legacy] pack.

---

[TRAIL OF LEGACY]

Theme: Strength and Control

Rarity: Common (C) to Super Rare (SR)

Total Cards: 500

Cards per pack: 3

Price: 1500 Tamer Coins

---

He chose that pack because it had a chance to drop up to Super Rare. Even though he knew his luck was terrible, he still held onto a bit of hope to get one.

After spending 1500 Tamer Coins, the pack appeared in his hands. Without waiting any longer, he unsealed it and revealed the first card.

"A skill that can stun enemies? Very nice. That is exactly what I lack right now, a skill for crowd control. This will be useful."

Next card.

---

A)Provides user a small boost to HP and DEF.

---

"Authority? What is this? And its effect is pretty cool!"

[Authority is a powerful type of card unique to the user. It contains various strong effects that can boost stats and grant special abilities. Your objective should be to collect as many Authority cards as possible. These cards will allow you to stand above others and become overpowered.]

Oliver was excited as he held the card tightly. In his mind, he imagined having at least ten Authority cards with similar effects and become the strongest tamer of all time.

A silly grin spread across his face and saliva almost dripping as he pictured himself surrounded by jealous hunters while kings bowed before him.

"Hey, enough daydreaming. Check the last card," Husk said. He was starting to get interested in what the system would give next.

"Okay, okay."

He slowly revealed the next card, and suddenly, he could not believe the color of its frame. He quickly covered it with both hands and looked at Husk, who also seemed a little surprised.

"Husk... don’t you think this card might be..." Oliver said. He opened his hands again, and his eyes did not deceive him.

It had a golden frame.

"It’s a Super Rare! I’m actually lucky!" Oliver jumped on his bed, completely forgetting that he had just recovered from his illness.

He and Husk immediately leaned in to examine it. The card revealed an image of a powerful, aggressive-looking spear.

Oliver’s eyes sparkled as he read through the description, completely amazed by the overwhelming power of the weapon.

Then, he froze in place

"It requires Level 20? And that much STR and WILL just to wield it? What kind of scam is this? Why give me this card if I can’t even use it right now? This is just false hope!"

Oliver collapsed onto his bed, utterly disappointed.

Right now, his stats had only just reached double digits. If he wanted to reach triple digits, he had no idea how many years it would take, maybe five, maybe ten. No one knew.

"I don’t think this is false hope. You need to look at it from the bright side, kid. This card can become your motivation to grow stronger faster. When that moment comes, all your effort will be rewarded when you finally wield this spear," Husk said.

"Hmm... maybe you’re right. Being sad and overthinking it won’t change anything. Yes, I need to become stronger, so I can wield that spear, become the top tamer, make my parents proud... and also help you get your revenge."

"You..." Husk was surprised by Oliver’s words. Even though Oliver said it casually, it struck something deep within him. A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Hmph! You’ll never get stronger if you just lie in bed. You need to train more vigorously. Starting today."

"But I just recovered from a fever! Why don’t we start training tomorrow?" Oliver said as he lay back down and pulled the blanket over himself.

"Tch! So that talk from you meant nothing!"
