Chapter 890: vs Brandon, Triple Battle
"These are all things from the past... Worth mentioning is that the Super-ancient Pyramid’s danger level lies between B-Level and A-Level, second only to Mt. Silver. Among the B-Level Danger Zones, it stands at the very top in terms of danger," Brandon said.
A Trainer capable of conquering a relic of the Super-ancient civilization would not only need tremendous personal strength but also exceptional exploration skills. It was precisely because Mr. Brandon had conquered this pyramid that he was hailed as the number one explorer in the adventure world.
If he were to reveal his true strength, even defeating an active Elite Four would not cause many Trainers to doubt it.
Although the Super-ancient Pyramid is not classified as an A-Level Lost Region, that does not mean its danger level is lower than Mt. Silver’s. Mt. Silver received its A-Level classification mainly because of its vast size—it almost stretches across both the Kanto and Johto region. Aside from several special areas of Mt. Silver, the rest can actually be explored even by ordinary Trainers. That A-Level rating reflects the overall threat of the entire mountain.
The Super-ancient Pyramid’s rating, on the other hand, contains no exaggeration whatsoever, because every single area within it is extremely dangerous.
After Mr. Brandon conquered the Super-ancient Pyramid, it was designated as a restricted zone. For most Trainers, entering it would mean facing near-certain death. However, considering its value as a place for tempering one’s abilities, it was still opened to certain Trainers and became a training site for the League’s direct-line Trainers. Even so, ordinary Trainers rarely had the chance to come into contact with this place.
In truth, anyone who carefully studied Mr. Brandon’s past could discover the existence of the Super-ancient Pyramid through the record of him conquering a certain B-Level Lost Region. The most important factor, however, was whether one had the right opportunity.
Mr. Brandon served as the gatekeeper of the Super-ancient Pyramid. In order to prevent those without sufficient strength from entering, he had a task: to filter out the incapable.
"That sounds really interesting. So what are the conditions to enter that pyramid?" At this moment, the four adventurers all showed curious expressions. As people who loved exploration, it was their first time hearing about such a place.
"You shouldn’t even think about it. That place isn’t somewhere you’re capable of exploring yet. To go to the Super-ancient Pyramid, you’d at least need the strength to conquer the Battle Frontier before you barely reach the threshold," Mr. Brandon said to the juniors.
His words instantly filled the others with embarrassment. It turned out that their strength hadn’t even reached the entry threshold.
"If I remember correctly... the condition is to defeat Mr. Brandon in a Triple Battle, right? I’m already prepared for that. After I return, I’ll submit my application and hope you’ll accept the challenge."
Terrance smiled slightly. If Mr. Brandon agreed, he would be able to obtain the qualification to enter the Super-ancient Pyramid as quickly as possible.
The Triple Battle served as the test. Mr. Brandon generally would not use his full strength—he only needed to confirm that the challenger had enough ability to protect themselves inside the pyramid.
Moreover, this Triple Battle was not the traditional 3-vs-3 battle.
Instead, both Trainers would simultaneously command three Pokémon in battle.
In a sense, this type of battle was already close to real combat. It also tested a Trainer’s ability to command a team battle. Only after completing this trial could one determine whether a Trainer truly had the capability to survive inside the Super-ancient Pyramid.
"A Triple Battle?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
The adventurers were astonished. Double Battles were popular in Hoenn, but Triple Battles were rarely seen. Even Doubles already demanded a great deal of coordination between Trainer and Pokémon, so wouldn’t Triple Battles be even harder?
"I see."
Mr. Brandon spoke again: "Since you’re already prepared, I’ll set aside some time as well. Although I’d like to let you enter directly, one of my duties is exactly this, so I have to fulfill my responsibility."
"I’ll complete the application within three days. I need some time to prepare, so I hope you’ll also take this battle seriously," Terrance suddenly said with a serious expression.
Rather than simply gaining direct access to the Super-ancient Pyramid, Terrance preferred to fight Mr. Brandon at full strength before entering.
The experience gained from a Triple Battle with Mr. Brandon might not be any less valuable than the training inside the Super-ancient Pyramid itself. Terrance also wanted to witness the strength of this number one explorer before the Elite Four Challenge Competition.
Moreover, this was his first time encountering something like a Triple Battle, so he couldn’t help but feel excited about facing a powerful opponent.
To enter the Super-ancient Pyramid, most Trainers couldn’t even get the first stage of the application approved. Trainers who could directly battle Mr. Brandon in a Triple Battle were bound to possess a certain level of influence and strength. After all, the League wouldn’t just send any random nobody to Brandon for testing. Of course, Terrance definitely had the qualifications; he only needed to ask his assistant Sharan, and the matter could be perfectly handled for him.
"Since you’ve said so, I’ll battle you with the strictest standards," Brandon replied.
After Brandon and Terrance finished their conversation, the four adventurers immediately became excited. Although they still didn’t fully understand everything that had happened, the news that Contest Master Terrance and the Pyramid King Brandon were going to have a Triple Battle was simply explosive to them.
"Mr. Brandon, about this battle... will we be able to watch it when the time comes?"
The female Trainer who seemed to take the lead among the four glanced at her three teammates before nervously asking.
There was no need to question Brandon’s strength, and they had already witnessed Terrance’s strength in the Hoenn Desert.
If they missed a never-before-seen Triple Battle of this level, they felt they would regret it for the rest of their lives.
"Tests for obtaining qualification to enter the Super-ancient Pyramid are usually supervised by personnel sent by the Pokémon League. As for the battle location, by convention it will take place at the Battle Pyramid. There’s no rule forbidding spectators, so you can ask Terrance for his opinion," Brandon said.
As soon as the Pyramid King finished speaking, Terrance instantly felt four pairs of eager eyes fixed on him.
The two female Trainers were fine, but what was going on with the creepy gazes from the muscular guy and the bespectacled guy?!
Terrance shuddered and, with a numb scalp, said, "If there’s no rule against it, then I don’t mind."
"Oh yeah!!" In an instant, the four of them jumped up in excitement.
After finishing the main discussion with Mr. Brandon inside the Battle Pyramid, Terrance didn’t stay long.
Unlike the idle adventuring team, he still needed to carefully prepare for the upcoming Triple Battle.
For Terrance, this battle was far more interesting than his next Champion League match.
Beautifly, Altaria, Mismagius, Arcanine, Castform, Gallade, Ninetales, Tyranitar, Gardevoir—among these nine Pokémon that could all serve as main Pokemon, which combination of three, theoretically, would produce the strongest combat power when battling together?
Terrance was still thinking about that question...
