Pokémon Court
Chapter 891: Pseudo Five-Core Team Battle System
When Terrance returned to Fallarbor Town, assistant Sharan had already set off to handle the procedures for Terrance to enter the Super-ancient Pyramid.
After returning to Fallarbor Town, Terrance gathered all of his Pokémon at Mt. Chimney in preparation for his upcoming Triple Battle with Mr. Brandon.
Before selecting the Pokémon he would use, Terrance first went to check on Carbink’s condition. According to his observations, as the diamond cocoon continued to change, Carbink’s emergence from the cocoon was likely only a matter of time.
"How are Togepi and Froakie doing?"
Elsewhere, Terrance asked the Rotom Pokédex about the current situation of Togepi and Froakie.
"They’ve gradually adapted to Mismagius’s training intensity, Roto," said the Rotom Pokédex.
"That’s good. Don’t increase their training intensity for now. Focus more on training their battle awareness. As for improving their strength, put that on hold for the moment," Terrance said.
He made this decision because, at present, Terrance already had enough main Pokémon to handle regular battles. Even if he encountered opponents he couldn’t deal with, there was no way Togepi and the others could reach the level required for Elite Four–level battles within a few months. So, slowing down their training intensity posed no problem; building a solid foundation was the most important thing.
Once their foundation was firmly established, some special training methods could also bring them into a period of explosive growth in strength.
At the same time, after learning that Terrance had returned to Mt. Chimney, Altaria and the others rushed over from their respective training grounds. They gathered affectionately around Terrance. Looking at these adorable little guys, Terrance chuckled and informed them about the upcoming Triple Battle. However, he didn’t rush to make a selection. Triple Battles were different from standard 3-vs-3 matches, and their opponent was Mr. Brandon. He needed to analyze it carefully together with the Rotom Pokédex.
"I brought some fruits from town. Come over and eat together."
In the afternoon, Terrance and his twelve Pokémon gathered together. During this time, he had gained a deeper understanding of their current conditions.
First, Froakie, Togepi, and Carbink had to be excluded. Terrance could see that Froakie and Togepi also wanted to participate in the battle, but with their current strength, they still couldn’t step onto that kind of stage.
After some thought, Terrance decided to bring the two of them along during the Triple Battle. Froakie and Togepi were proficient in double-battle combat, but in Terrance’s eyes their skills were still insufficient. He felt it was necessary for them to broaden their horizons and witness what a true top-tier battle looked like.
It didn’t take long for Terrance to compile a comprehensive assessment of the current strength of these Pokémon.
Next, it was no longer Terrance’s task alone. Responsible for selecting the optimal three members for the Triple Battle was also Rotom Pokédex—Terrance’s top strategist.
Steven had once suggested that Terrance participate in the Champion League, because after obtaining an Elite Four position through standard 6-vs-6 battles, the Pokémon League would allocate resources according to the new Elite Four member’s specific situation and help them build their own team battle system.
Terrance wasn’t the type to sit idle. Even though he hadn’t yet entered the Elite Four Hall, he had already begun working on team battle systems himself.
The fairy army composed of Altaria, Ninetales, Gardevoir, Diancie, and thirty-six Cutiefly was a pseudo four-core team battle system.
Altaria’s Fairy Aura served as the primary tactical core, greatly enhancing the strength of all Fairy-type Pokémon.
The second tactical core conceived by Terrance was Ninetales’s Ice Moon strategy. Ice Moon acted as a container for moves like Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast, capable of merging the power of all Pokémon together to unleash extremely destructive force, making it a crucial method for suppressing Legendary Pokémon.
However, the stable execution of Ninetales’s Ice Moon strategy depended on the existence of Fairy Aura. Therefore, Ninetales could not separate from Altaria and form an Ice Moon tactical system with other Pokémon as an independent tactical core.
The third tactical core of the fairy army lay in the coordination of Gardevoir’s Telepathy, computational ability, and Ally Switch. With Gardevoir’s Telepathy combined with Terrance’s Fairy Mark, the entire team could share vision and thoughts. With Telepathy, computational ability, and Ally Switch providing support, the fairy army’s survivability and reaction speed in battle would be greatly enhanced.
To be more precise, Gardevoir and Terrance together formed a tactical core. The presence of Fairy Mark and Gardevoir’s Telepathy allowed Terrance to participate in battle more efficiently and reduce his burden of commanding, which was of extraordinary significance in team battles.
Additionally, when Gardevoir used Misty Terrain, the tactical value of this core would increase further. The enemy’s vision would be disrupted, while Terrance’s side would not only remain unaffected but would also gain immunity to status conditions and reduce the power of the opponent’s Dragon-type moves because of Misty Terrain.
As for the fourth core, it had not yet taken shape and was still under construction.
However, Diancie had already been reserved for this position.
In Terrance’s vision, the primary executor of the Fairy Domain: Ice Crystal Magic Mirror would be Diancie. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Moves such as Ninetales’s Ice Mirror and Gardevoir’s Light Screen would merely serve as supplementary enhancements. Their main tasks were not focused on that—becoming overly distracted would be a major mistake.
Diancie was famous for its defensive capabilities, and Carbink itself was also quite proficient with defensive techniques. Because of this, Terrance was very eager to see just how far Diancie’s Light Screen, Reflect, and Magic Bounce could be utilized after its mutation.
But one thing was certain—it would be extremely powerful. Moreover, Terrance had not forgotten that Diancie possessed the signature move Diamond Storm and the ability to create diamonds.
The defensive power of the diamonds created even by an untrained Mega Diancie could withstand the fierce attacks of the Destruction Pokémon, Yveltal.
Once the Fairy Domain was fully formed, the safety of the Ice Moon created by Ninetales—the second core—would receive the greatest protection, while the entire team’s defensive capability would undergo a qualitative transformation. Furthermore, with Diancie’s Fairy Domain, the manoeuvrability of light-based attacks would be pushed to the extreme.
"If I can perfectly integrate these four little guys into a single team battle system, then according to Steven’s description, even among the Elite Four who excel in real combat, we could become one of the top-tier groups!"
Altaria, Ninetales, Gardevoir, and Diancie—just these four Pokémon alone could form a pseudo four-core system!
"Besides that, the thirty-six Cutiefly can perfectly integrate into the fairy army. Most importantly, they all know the move Baton Pass. Half a year will be enough for them to learn the combo technique of Quiver Dance and Silver Wind from Beautifly. When that time comes, the strength of the main Pokémon in actual combat can be further enhanced! From this perspective, it wouldn’t be wrong to say they serve as another core as well. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of their own strength, the strength of this core might be somewhat insufficient. But once they evolve and are fully trained, they might even be able to reverse the tide of battle. After all, with Fairy Aura present, raising them to a certain level isn’t difficult. Another factor that cannot be ignored is their sheer number!"
Viewed this way, it would become a pseudo five-core team battle system. The fifth core—the Baton Pass strategy—required a large number of Pokémon and cumulative boosts to maximize the effect of this core.
This was because when a Pokémon’s strength reached the top-tier level, the enhancement from one or two stat boosting moves was no longer particularly noticeable.
Of course, if those veteran Elite Four experts knew that Terrance had already reached this level in just two short years, many of them would surely be shocked.
The pseudo-five-core level—throughout history, most of those who have reached or broken through this level are Champion-level masters, while very few Elite Four have even touched upon the five-core.
From this point of view, Terrance possessed remarkable talent for creating the team battle system.
Because the theoretical framework of the pseudo five-core team battle system had already taken shape, completing it was only a matter of time. When that happened, Terrance would be able to approach the ranks of the very peak.
