Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards
Chapter 185: Showing the field
These days Fengyu felt like a landlord trying to find renters. But, to be honest, with each person renting his field, he increasingly felt safer.
After all, with so many cultivators, each of them extremely talented and having many hidden weapons, the Beast Tide should-
Well, he didn’t dare be presumptuous. After all, even third-stage cultivators can die, so what can a bunch of ants do? Just focus on protecting yourself and don’t think too much!
His words echoed in his actions and directly after the gathering ended, he went back to his field together with Liling and Han’er.
There were a few more cultivators who approached Liling and talked with her and even greeted Fengyu, but none of them had a particularly strong aura. After talking a bit, he didn’t pay more attention.
Now, standing in front of his field, he opened it for Liling and Han’er to see -
A large field, over ten acres, covering around a third of the outer fields.
"Fellow daoist’s field is very serene," Liling was surprised when she entered, describing it as such because she felt calling it peaceful would be too clichée.
The trees swayed in the wind, soft sunshine dotted the ground, and a breeze of vitality flew through the whole courtyard. It was a sight she didn’t see in the city.
"Haha, thank you," Fengyu said, and just as he did, he saw several ducks walking behind a large duck.
"Quack, quack quack, quack?" Wind Claw asked when he saw that Fengyu had arrived.
"You’re doing a good job guiding them! These two are fellow daoists Liling and Han’er. They will reside in the field from now on, so you don’t have to guard against them."
Wind Claw nodded, then walked alongside the field’s edge with the ducks behind him.
Each of these ducks was a first-stage early-stage duck mother. They were usually supposed to be laying eggs, but Fengyu thought that since they had some strength, having them patrol together with Wind Claw would be good.
Their bills were quite strong and their feathers quite hard, so fighting against some Spirited or early-stage vermin would be just fine. Considering this, having them patrol would be good. At least it would free up some of Wind Claw’s duties.
"Your ducks are so diligent!" Liling said, quite surprised at this sight.
She thought Fengyu would be like the herders she had seen before, who only had one or two strong beasts and used spells to strengthen the efficiency of other animals, which would lead to full domestication and make the beasts lose several essential parts that allowed them to survive in the wild.
"They are very diligent indeed! Wind Claw here patrols along the edge of our field. The ducks are currently learning how to patrol and kill vermin, which should hopefully relieve us of the tedious small work."
"Fellow daoist Fengyu is building a private army, he’s not herding at all!" Liling joked as they walked into the field.
As they did, they came across a large blue raincloud flying rather close to the ground.
"Quack?" a questioning quack came from the cloud, surprising Liling and Han’er.
"Oh, these two are going to rent here from now on. When you see them, you can give them a glass of water." As he said this, he took out a glass of water from his spatial bag and held it out, filling it with the spiritual rain.
He handed the glass to Ming as he explained to the group behind him, "This is Spring Rain, he is currently watering the fields. The rain he produces is of Spirited quality and tastes quite refreshing, don’t shy away from drinking a glass or two when you have time."
Liling nodded, her eyes changing slightly.
Soon, the group arrived in front of the duck villa, where Mother Duck was teaching Fire Breath how to do a few things.
Fire Breath breathed a huge flame in the shape of a cone.
"Quack, this style is good. Let’s try some spray breathing next," Mother Duck instructed her grandson, teaching him how to use his ability better. With her Origin Mother Crest, she had a higher understanding of her offspring’s abilities and could use her knowledge to help them improve their abilities.
"Quack? Are these the new renters?" Mother Duck asked when she saw Fengyu bring in a group.
"Yes, they are Liling and her friend Han’er. Tell the others about them so they’re not surprised when they see them. We don’t want them to be accidentally attacked."
"Quack." Mother Duck agreed, nodding slightly to the group before turning back to teaching Fire Breath.
Liling and Han’er were surprised, cupping their hands in greeting, then looking at the majestic duck villa.
Built from thousand-year-old wood, blue stone, and marble... if it was in the mortal world, it would be the house of a hundred-year-old noble family. But here... it was simply a herding house for ducks!
They chuckled before entering it together with Fengyu.
"Fellow daoist, let’s sit here." Fengyu sat in the main seat of the meeting room while sending Ming back to call Ling over.
He waved his hand, summoning a map onto the table, as well as two contracts.
Handing the contracts to the two female cultivators, he explained, "The contract only has three clauses - first, the rent payment is 10,000 spirit stones monthly and begins the moment you sign it. Second, the rent formally ends after the Beast Tide has been officially announced completed by the city, or if both parties agree to end the rent earlier. Third, during the whole rent, the renters and landlord are to protect the field to the best of their ability."
Below were a bunch of specifications detailing what ’field’, ’renter’, ’landlord’ and such were, as well as how they should protect it, what the priorities of protection were, and so on.
As they were reading the content, Ming already returned with Ling.
Fengyu turned to them and smiled, "I haven’t introduced you properly yet. This is Ming’s twin sister, also my junior sister, Ling!"
