Chapter 44: 44- The Project

With Hunter’s support, she had started walking slowly, still she wasn’t allowed to walk for more than five to six minutes.

The doctor had advised her to take long breaks and not to exert her foot.

While making coffee, Hunter watched Sienna, who was having a meeting in the living room. The site supervisor, Alex, was seated with her while the rest of the staff was attending the meeting online.

Mr. Jeffery Stone was already on board as an investor, and Sienna couldn’t wait to start a new project under the banner, Siahun Constructions.

It took only twenty-four hours for Mr. Burraq to change the name of the company. All the documents were submitted to the council on time.

When Sienna received the stamped and signed documents, she was over the moon.

"Now no one can snatch this company from you," Hunter had murmured to her, passing the document folder into her hands.

Right now, he could hear Sienna giving instructions to her employees.

"She is bossy!" Standing behind him, Brian remarked in a whisper. Hunter chuckled after switching on the coffee machine.

The soft hum filled the kitchen as he reached for the mugs.

"As her secretary, I need to deliver this coffee or my boss might fire me," He said quietly, walking to the fridge to fetch some milk.

Brian controlled the laughter and quickly pumped some maple syrup into Sienna’s mug. He leaned closer to Hunter, lowering his voice even more, "She is scarier than you, dude."

Hunter fixed his dark shades and started frothing the milk. He stayed quiet, but in his heart, he knew Brian might be right.

"We have to try for this contract," Sienna told her employees, "We worked very hard to achieve it. There are very few contractors who are delivering on time, and right now? Right now, I want to make a name for myself."

Alex started briefing about their bid and how they would convince the other party.

"Ma’am... I mean, Sienna," Brian bent a little to whisper in her ear. She was enjoying the coffee that Hunter just made for her and Alex.

"Hmm?" She turned her head, "What is it?"

"There is a man at the gate. He wants to meet you."

Sienna straightened and placed her coffee mug on the table. The first thought that came to her mind was Tom.

"Brian!" She rolled her eyes, "Does he have a name?"

Brian nodded and moved again to her ear, "His ID says he is Finn Robertson, and he really needs to talk to you."

What was Finn doing here? Who gave him the address?

"Didn’t you tell him that I’m not home?" Her voice dropped to a whisper, "Can you go and convey it to him?"

"Sugar," Hunter leaned over and whispered in her other ear, "Lying won’t get you anywhere. Better deal with him. If you want, I can take his phone number and ask him to wait for the call."

That made perfect sense. Sienna nodded, asking silently to go ahead.

Sienna was pacing in the living room...no... it wasn’t exactly pacing but more like limping on her good foot.

Alex had gone to attend the meeting, and now she was waiting for good news. She was damn sure that she would get the contract. After all, they all worked so hard for it.

"Whoa—" Hunter’s voice from the staircase made her jump in fright.

"Stop scaring me!" she placed her palm on her chest, "You almost gave me a heart attack."

Hunter was in front of her before she could turn away, "You’re not supposed to do that."

She opened her mouth to argue, but had to close it when his one arm slid behind her back and the other one under her knees. In one smooth motion, he lifted her off the floor.

"Hunter!" She grabbed his shirt, startled, "Put me down!"

"No. That’s not happening, sugar."

"But I can walk!"

"And I can see that!" he mimicked her tone drily as he carried her towards the couch, "It’s such a terrible idea, firecracker."

She huffed in exasperation, but didn’t say another word. He set her down gently, as if she might break. After placing her, he didn’t move back and watched her through the shades.

Sienna wanted to lean a little to smell him more. To kiss him.

Hunter must have noticed her silence, "What is it?"

She shook her head with a shrug, "Nothing," She smiled and then tried to come up with something better, "I’m... just nervous, Hunter..." She fiddled with her fingers, "What if this goes wrong?"

Gosh, his face is so close, and look at those kissable lips.

She let out a breath, her gaze drifting past him, "This is our first project... everything is moving too fast. One mistake and..." She sighed, "We can’t afford to mess this one."

Hunter, at last, stepped back and crouched slightly in front of her, "You won’t mess it, sugar. You need to believe in yourself." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

This time, Sienna had to force herself not to think that he didn’t know business. She didn’t want to hurt him.

She gave a small, humorless scoff, "That’s not how business works, Hunter," She bent ahead and placed her head on his shoulder, making him go still.

His eyes moved to her red hair. He raised his hand a little to touch it, but she pulled herself up, leaving his hand in mid-air.

With an awkward chuckle, he ran his hand through his hair, "Stay here. Okay?"

She made a pout, "Stop ordering your boss."

She couldn’t wait to talk to Alex and hear the good news. Hunter kept talking to her about hard work and how she had lots of potential, but she kept listening to him half heartedly.

The way she kept shaking her leg, it got Hunter’s attention. However, he wanted her to learn every business trick and handle things in her own way.

Right at five in the evening, her phone started ringing, and she quickly grabbed it from the couch.

What was supposed to be good news turned into a setback. They lost the contract to Star Realty and Projects.

Tom’s company won the project.
