Chapter 463: Bones Everywhere!

Feeling somewhat embarrassed by her on edge reaction only to be met with a fast than normal long-necked mist sheep that had ultimately ended up killing itself, Scaly remained still looking out at the thick mist curling around her. Not daring to move recklessly even with the sudden arrival of a reckless long-necked mist sheep. Understanding that there was still a very real chance that the real enemy was still hidden within the mist waiting for an opportunity to strike when she let her guard down...

Whoosh~

But as another long-necked mist sheep came crashing into her a few minutes later, throwing its life away in a similar manner to the first, she began relaxing. Feeling that if there really was some kind of powerful monster lurking in the mist, it should have attacked the two of them by now. At the very least, she wouldn’t have been able to endure waiting around to make a move for that long.

With that in mind, she soon enough resumed her journey through the mist alongside Verdell, who was still cautiously scanning the surrounding mist for any potential enemies that might be waiting to strike. At the very least, with a dwarf on her back keeping an eye out for enemies, she felt that she didn’t have to worry too much about a powerful monster sneaking up on her without said dwarf discovering it ahead of time.

Not because Verdell was more perceptive than her, but instead because he had almost entirely shifted his attention on keeping track of their surroundings while she was almost mindlessly following the thick blood vessel. Unaware of anything that might be happening behind her, as it wasn’t exactly easy for her to constantly turn around to take a look. It was far better to outsource everything to Verdell and just focus on what was in front of her.

Quietly continuing forward like this. Only interrupted by the occasional long-necked mist sheep that came running to its death. Another half hour flew by before the already large blood vessel reached a point where it was large enough for Verdell to walk through with space left over. The sheer quantity of long-necked mist sheep blood flowing through such a large blood vessel was simply terrifying.

Just imagining how many mist sheep had to die every minute to ensure a steady flow of blood was terrifying as what little the two of them had seen should only be the surface of the bloody landscape that had been perfectly hidden by the thick grey mist.

The strength of someone or something capable of doing something like this was simply unimaginable, as even Scaly began feeling somewhat hesitant about continuing forward towards the source of the blood vessel and the long-necked mist sheep.

Of course, though she was hesitant and Verdell reminded her that it was fine if they avoided whatever was waiting on the other end, she continued forward. Driven not by her desire for strength but instead curiosity regarding what kind of monster had the ability to create so many long-necked mist sheep.

In the end, pressing forward, she soon enough found the grass beneath her feet disappearing completely. Replaced by a layer of bones that didn’t just belong to long-necked mist sheep, but also other monsters that shouldn’t be much stronger than the long-necked mist sheep.

"Mist runner bones... Mist lurking boar bones... Green mist snake bones... Monster around the same level as the long-necked mist sheep... And so many of them, far more than the long-necked sheep bones that seems to be a rather recent addition..." Unable to stop himself from voicing out his thoughts upon seeing this terrifying scene, Verdell slowly leaned back with a look of fear on his face.

Different from Scaly who had only been a bit taken aback by the large quantity of bones on the ground, he almost immediately realized that these monsters should have been the same as the long-necked mist sheep in the past. Only, whoever or whatever was behind the creation of these monsters had archived what they set out for and shifted to another monster, a process that had repeated nine times so far from what he could tell from the number of monster bones covering the ground. The long-necked mist sheep being the tenth monster added to this layer of bones.

Having already guessed that the ones behind this was the Eternal Life Sanctum, he was still left confused wondering just what in the world the ones from the Eternal Life Sanctum were planning by gathering such a vast quantity of blood while also gathering the bones of so many monsters.

Crack~ Crack~ Crack~

In the end, he could only silently observe his surroundings as Scaly slowly proceeded forward onto the fragile bones that stood no chance when being stepped on by a dragon Scaly’s size.

Although a part of him wanted nothing more than to run away and search for another way out of this floor of the dungeon, he also understood that his best chance of finding a way out still ultimately laid with the Eternal Life Sanctum who should know where such a path could be found and might even be guarding said path at the end of the large blood vessel he and Scaly were travelling alongside.

Small as the chance of this being the case was, it still existed and was a risk he was willing to take knowing that the normal passages between dungeon floors had already been sealed up due to the upheaval that had almost certainly been caused by the Eternal Life Sanctum.

"The mist... Is thinning out..." And as the two continued forward, it didn’t take long before Verdell realized that the thick mist that had swallowed them up and limited their vision to only a few meters was starting to recede. Allowing the two of them to see further than they had in the past. Allowing the two of them to see what had been hidden by the mist not long ago...
