Reggie came over to the boy and gave him an assessing look. "Can you carry thirty kilos in a backpack for hours at a time?"

The boy thought about it seriously for a moment, then nodded. "As long as it’s in a backpack, it’s not a problem. And there are others who have the {Commoner} status who are stronger adults.

Well, stronger than me."

Reggie nodded, knowing that the boy meant that most of them were not construction workers or any sort of physical labourers before this all started. So, they weren’t particularly strong, but they would definitely find a way to move with the loaded backpack all day if they had to.

"Go find three more supporters, and we will assign one to each team that’s going out right away. Just make sure that they all have the food gathering quest available, so they can get a proper reward. We will keep them safe in exchange for them carrying the loot."

It might not be a great deal, but it was a deal, and within minutes they were all back.

"Alright, hunting teams, grab your Supporter. They’ve all brought backpacks, and they’ve got the food quest. They get first dibs on the food quest, while we hunt the crabs."

Reggie and the other teams left right away, despite having intended to leave in the afternoon. If they could do both quests at the same time, it would work out perfectly. They also only needed to find one Stoneshell Crab for that quest.

Kalli noticed that there were still teams headed out from the apartment building once the heroes had left.

They had bats, cleavers and other assorted weapons, which wouldn’t do much of anything against one of the Swineherd or a Stoneshell Crab. But they would let them cut through the underbrush and harvest plants.

She wouldn’t stop them from trying to make a living.

"What’s the plan, boss lady?" Yara asked as her team came out of the dungeon.

"We need everyone to complete both quests every day. There are seven days, fourteen System Points. We need everyone to have a composite bodysuit or better armour before that is over, and hopefully an uncommon weapon, with plenty of ammunition for the ranged classes.

Those who already have it can focus on skills.

I’m not going to lie, I think that we screwed up the first trial. We’ve got so few students, and just one building full of survivors. There might be more out there somewhere, but I’m not holding my breath.

When the next trial starts, we’re already at a disadvantage.

We’ve got under a fifth of the students we could have, and so few people that the System called us a village. We’re villagers."

Yara frowned. "Yeah, that doesn’t sound good. Fortunately, we’ve got the option to get advanced equipment. If we were just working with swords and spears, we would be so screwed.

I’ve never even seen most of these things before, but the System is helping us out with all sorts of cheat level advantages."

Kalli blinked once, then nodded. "Yes, the System is good to us."

She couldn’t just tell the healer that everything on that list is something that she was at least vaguely familiar with from her past life, unless it was some sort of medieval or mechanical item that her world had advanced past.

So, all the tech that they had access to most likely came from the fact that Kalli was the one distributing it, and she had a much wider frame of reference than the locals to this world.

That made her think of the obscenely expensive items and the strange things that she had seen on the random reward wheel. She knew those things as well, even if they were far beyond her means.

Perhaps that was why the System gave this group a much better chance with her present? Getting them items like laser rifles and modern battle armour gave them an advantage that no other group could compare to.

And even that was unlikely to be enough.

That was enough to guide her ideas, though. She had received some supplies for the Academy at the end of the mission, and it was time for her to put them into action.

The first thing that she needed to do was to set up a shop for the Tinkers.

She had three Uncommon Grade [Tradesman Workshop Bundles]. Setting something up for the tinkers to do repairs would make them more effective, and might add new functions for them.

Then, she could set up one of the wells so that they had extra water that was guaranteed to be clean.

If she set up the [Power Generator] and linked the apartment building, they could get back to some sort of modern living standards. Only, keeping lights on after dark was a dangerous proposition without enough people to patrol the area outside the walls.

Kalli mentally calculated the movement around the compound, and decided that the far side of the driveway, near the old Staff Housing building.

It wasn’t in use, and the area was a disused green space even before the staff was gone.

Kalli went and found Beth and Jane, who were sitting in a classroom surrounded by gear.

"Ladies, I have a proposition for you. I got a reward that will give you a proper workshop with tools. Would you like to move your operations?"

"That would be incredible. Working in a lecture hall with basic hand tools sucks. Just having a space with proper work tables would be great. Unfortunately, the fashion classroom was invaded during the first wave, and the whole place is trashed, so we couldn’t use their worktables."

Kalli nodded. "There were a number of classrooms breached. But that’s in the past. Do you want to pack up and move now? Or do you want to finish up and move after lunch?"

"Let’s see the new place. It’s likely better to move as soon as possible, so we don’t get further behind. They might only be trying for one crab each, but they’re still going to end up breaking more gear."
