The gear was quickly packed up into a rolling cart with the Academy emblem on it, and Kalli led the pair outside.

"I was thinking this is the best spot. Not too close to the gate, out of the way of the main traffic. So, everyone can find you easily."

"That’s fine. But outdoors? Does it make a building?"

Kalli nodded. "That’s what it says. It will make a whole workshop. We could do it inside and convert a large room, I suppose. If you want to be in the Academy itself?"

"No, outside is better. Repairing gear is very loud sometimes, if we’re in a classroom, it will bother everyone around us. Assuming that we ever get enough people that it matters. Maybe we should have encouraged more people to move in?"

Kalli shrugged. "Too late for that now. Alright, I will set up the workshop and we will see what’s inside."

Kalli targeted Beth with the [Tradesman Workshop Bundle] and got a holographic projection of where the building would be in her vision, and then a set of options on how it would look.

{Default Style} System default technology level workshop

{Marimgar Academy Style} includes indoor plumbing and electric lights

{Coordinator Style} designed in the fashion of the Coordinator’s home world. Synthetic materials, indoor plumbing, integrated lighting and automatic doors.

Out of personal amusement, and a bit of nostalgia, Kalli picked the {Coordinator Style} shop, and a simple workshop made of the familiar synthetic concrete panels, with a tinted glass storefront, appeared in front of them.

As Kalli adjusted the position, she realized that simply by placing it over one of the power outlets in the yard, which were intended for powering outdoor events, she could cause the power circuits to light up inside the building.

That would save them a lot of work, or setting up the mana-driven generator right away.

Inside were a collection of work benches with robotic arms to move gear, oversized sewing machines, and a number of other tools that Kalli couldn’t immediately identify.

However, there was one tool on the front counter that she did know.

It was a basic diagnostic scanner that every shop back home had. It was usually linked to their 3D printers and scanned damaged items, so the shop could produce a replacement part.

This shop didn’t look like it had a 3D printer, but she hadn’t expected it to.

Just having the scanner to tell the Tinkers where to find all the damage on the gear would be a great start. It would save a tonne of time when someone came in with battle damage. Just have them make a turn in front of you, and you’d know exactly what it needed to do the repairs.

Kalli picked the scanner up, and the other two stared at it, confused as to the function.

"It’s a scanner. Hold up that damaged suit."

Beth held up a light composite bodysuit, and Kalli scanned it, which brought up a holographic system linked display with dozens of red marks on it where the suit was compromised and the estimated repair effort.

"Damn. That’s cushy. And the robotic arms to hold things in place as we work? That’s great. And the sewing machine? We’re going to save so much time, you have no idea."

"That’s excellent news. I will wait here while you get started, as the System might tell me a bit more about your equipment."

They responded by immediately getting to work, and the robotic arms responded to their hand gestures or words to move armour pieces where they wanted them.

Jane took a bodysuit to the sewing machine and stared at it for a moment before a huge smile spread on her face.

"It’s a System linked tool! I just have to activate my [Item Repair] skill to use it, and look at this."

The machine got right to work, sewing up a torn section of the suit, replacing missing cloth with a perfectly woven section, as if it was never damaged.

Not just a patch, the armour was literally as good as new by the time that she finished.

"So, the tools are something like props. They look like technological items, but they’re actually just there to let you activate your System Skills?" Kalli asked.

"Pretty much. They can still do things with mana, but not the same as they do with a Skill. So, we can use the tools when we’re on cooldown. But [Item Repair] doesn’t have a cooldown, it just needs some mana, materials and time.

The tools here substitute most of the materials with more mana, which is great, since we don’t have spare suits.

But if we can get some more of the crab shells, I think that we can upgrade the heavy armour suits soon. I don’t have enough points to buy the [Uncommon Upgrade] skill, but eventually, I’ll be able to do it. I got the [Common Upgrade] skill with the Tinker Class, which gives basic items more durability and bonuses like common grade items."

"Oh, that will be great. The Uncommon Grade items cost twice as much from my store, so I think that plenty of people will want to go to you if it’s cheaper to do it that way.

System Points are always in short supply."

Jane laughed. "The thing is that it takes materials. For Common Grade, it’s mostly scrap items. But for Uncommon? It’s likely to be something that we don’t have or have to get from the monsters."

"She’s got to be in the new building. Who else would have a building as a reward?" Kalli heard from outside, as a group came back.

"I am inside. This is the new Tinker shop, what do you think?"

"Now that’s an upgrade. It’s like a proper factory in here, but with two workers. And they’ve got so much fixed already." Mark, one of the Academy’s taller Rogues, agreed.

He had strange orange blood on him, but he didn’t look injured.

"We had an interesting run in with an angry potato. But we’ve won, and I’m pretty sure that it’s edible. It smells good, and it’s shaped like a potato. It came from the roots of an aggressive plant after we dug it up."

A teen girl from the apartments ran forward with a camping backpack full of food. She began placing items on the counter, and Kalli stopped her when the quest completed.

"That’s five kilos."
