Chapter 360: Chapter 360 - Demons vs Dragon Kings(Part 3)

"Ahh, that was so much fun," I sighed contentedly, as I munched on a meat skewer.

"Slow down, you’re getting sauce all around your mouth," Frowned Lucy, as she leaned over and wiped a tissue over my mouth.

"How delightfully delectable...this sticky liquid substance coating the meat on this stick is divine," Remarked Aereeze as she took a bite and savored it, her eyes closed.

"Even though we technically don’t need any sustenance to survive, I could see myself getting addicted to this," Nodded Terrastra in agreement, before adding, "And that place, the arcade, was it? I quite enjoyed myself in there, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such enjoyment before."

"There’s one thing I don’t understand...the Elder Vampires have been living in human society for centuries, right? So they would undoubtedly have experienced all these pleasures themselves...in which case, why would they want to destroy human society and enslave them as livestock, instead of simply looking to rule over them?" Mused Liquaqua thoughtfully.

"It’s likely a matter of pride, they probably can’t bring themselves to acknowledge that humans are good at something," Pointed out Lucy with a shrug.

"Hm, but what about that barrier they used against me? Such items are human technology, correct? So, obviously the Elder Vampires had humans make it for them," Responded Terrastra with a frown.

"They’ve always been a contradictary bunch, they’re the most prideful creatures I’ve ever encountered, but also the most cautious. They are capable of swallowing their pride if it puts their cautious nature at risk, but they certainly don’t like doing so," Replied Aereeze with a sigh.

We’d spent about three hours at the arcade, playing every single game they had to offer in there. And once we had our fill of that, we headed out and I suggested getting something to eat.

We bought a mountain of meat skewers from a food stall, and were currently in a park, relaxing on the grass while snacking on the skewers.

"If those bastards have their way, we’ll lose all of this...but if we manage to defeat them, we can enjoy all these luxuries as much as we want, without a care in the world," Remarked Liquaqua as a look of determination appeared in her eyes.

"Well, whatever gets you motivated, I guess. I take it this means Arcadia has made a positive impression on you?" I asked her.

"Oh, without question. There are countless things to be entertained by here, even if I get bored of one thing, there are plenty more options to chose from!" She replied with a grin.

"I agree. It hasn’t been very long since I joined Arcadia, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself since then. I don’t care what happens to the humans outside of this nation, but I want to protect this place...now that I’ve experienced what it has to offer, it would be a great shame for it to be destroyed," Added Terrastra with a nod.

"Yes, and even if we weren’t allied with Arcadia, I highly doubt that the Elder Vampires would have just let us be. They may look down on us, but they also see us as a threat...and as cautious as they are, they wouldn’t ignore us," Remarked Aereeze with a grimace.

"They were always unpleasant to deal with...we tried to avoid them as much as possible before we were sealed away by the humans, but the more we prospered, the more they tried to take us down," Sighed Lucy in exasperation.

"Hm...now that I think about it, they might have been the ones who drove the humans to attack us. They have the ability to blend in with humans, after all, manipulating them by stoking their fear of us would have been a simple matter. Unfortunately for them, the humans must have grown bold after destroying our nation and then turned their fangs to the Vampires. That would also explain why they’re so hellbent on destroying human society," Suggested Vorph thoughtfully.

"You may be right...the humans only began coming after us after the Demons were wiped out, except for the five of you who were sealed away. That’s why we all went into hiding...it must have been the same for the Vampires. They underestimated the humans and paid for it...and I have no doubt that they will be determined not to repeat the same mistake again," Responded Liquaqua with a nod.

"The humans of this era are weaker than the humans that were around two centuries ago...well, there are exceptions, Larrk is undoubtedly the most powerful human I’ve ever encountered, and there are a handful of others who are comparable to the strongest humans from two centuries ago.

But overall, humans have grown weaker...it’s likely because we beings they classified as Demonic Grade Monsters were out of the equation during that period. Therefore, there was no reason for them to push themselves to the same heights that the humans of the past strived towards. That must be why the Elder Vampires waited so long, the weaker humans became, the easier it would be for them to carry out their plans," Surmised Terrastra objectively.

"In which case, they were a bit too cautious...had they made their move just a decade earlier, their success would have been all but guaranteed. Most of the current strongest humans would have been young children at the time, the Demons were still sealed, I was wallowing at the bottom of a Labyrinth, and you Dragon Kings were scattered across the world," I pointed out.

Well, either way, this is still going to be an extremely difficult battle. Defeating them won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination...but at the very least, we’re probably as best prepared as we could be.

And I, for one, refuse to go down without a fight...there’s just too much to lose. This is probably the happiest I’ve been in my entire life, and I don’t want to lose anyone or anything. Failure is not an option, we have to emerge victorious in this upcoming battle, no matter what...
