Rise Of The Hoarder
Chapter 388: Gloating From A Distance
I was ecstatic as I relished my victory over Paul and the rest of the Alliance.
I’d have given anything to have seen the look of surprise on their faces when they got to the throne room to find the boss already defeated.
As it stood, I had used my superior stealth skills to follow Paul and his assassin in their search.
Their encounter with the bodies of their comrades in the General team and their fruitless hunt for me had no doubt shaken them to the core.
It was nothing short of satisfying to see Paul break down and lose his cool in front of one of the team leaders.
The idea was to slowly take everything from him until he was left with nothing.
After all, what was a king without his kingdom?
Strength wasn’t everything in this world. Intelligence played a vital role too.
Given all that he wielded in his possession, he wasn’t very smart. The fool was much too predictable.
Maybe it had something to do with that Lawful Good alignment of his.
There was only so much you could do with an alignment like that. I wondered if he would lose the backing of the gods if his alignment changed to something like mine.
Somehow I doubted that.
I still remembered his insane stats and went over them in my head. It was monstrous for any human apart from me that is.

I had seen the effect of that (G) Authority when he had gone berserk and it was nothing to sneeze at.
By comparison, mine seemed rather modest to look at.
It was a far cry from my insane skills before my system reset.

I heard a snort of derision besides me and looked to my side to see Sariel studying me impassively.
We were currently in one of the lower levels of the chasm. Though I didn’t tell her, I had been impressed by how easily she had bested the Boss and made it back here way earlier than when we agreed to meet.
Given the scenario of how we first met, it was surreal that this insanely strong angel was now my ally.
With her new status of Celestial Archangel, she was practically invincible.
She didn’t seem too excited from her demeanor but again it was always hard to tell the expressions apart on that flawless face.
"You’ve been gloating for some time now. Happy with all the games you’re playing."
I smiled at her. All along, she thought that all this was a waste of time and we’d be better off leaving the Alliance alone to face the Apocalypse tasks.
"Yes, you can say I’m happy with the games. There’s a reason for all of it."
"Focus on the big picture here, we could easily complete all these tasks before they do."
I tried in vain to stop myself from snickering at her words. She was the one who wasn’t seeing the big picture.
I guess no matter the race, women were the same everywhere.
Foolish, narrow minded and blinded by sentiments.
It certainly surprised me that I was smarter than an angel after all.
I didn’t want to ruin the fun by telling her why, with time she would see exactly why I was doing all this.
"I’d rather do both. You know the Second Week will arrive any moment from now. It goes without saying that we need to be ahead of Paul. Now that he is aware of their interference, he will work even harder to make sure he gets to the goal first."
There was an imperceptible nod from Sariel but that was all the reassurance I needed to see.
Despite her misgivings, she was still at my side.
Unlike the past where I had a leader and follower with the ladies at my side, this was certainly different.
She was my better for the most part and I couldn’t wait to change the dynamic.
That could wait while I planned on how to decimate Paul and the Alliance as a whole.
My blood tingled in anticipation as I imagined what it’d feel like to see him pleading for his life at my feet.
The pieces were in place and the strategy was foolproof. I only had to close in for the kill.
"Paul, what would you do when you lose everything?"
