Chapter 408: The More, The Merrier?

As they journeyed through the shifting landscape, Paul’s mind remained laser-focused on the task at hand.

They had now been on the road for seven days and they still had a lot of ground to cover.

As it was the last day, tensions were running high. Doubts were spreading about the likelihood of getting to the location since it wasn’t fixed in one place.

The map in his vision flickered, reminding him of the urgency. Each step felt like treading on a living, breathing entity that constantly shifted beneath their feet.

"Everyone, stay close," Paul commanded, his voice carrying authority that cut through the uncertainty.

Though he didn’t show it, his confidence was bolstered by the presence of Steven and the other leaders.

There was strength in unity.

Together, they formed a formidable force, ready to tackle the week’s challenges head-on.

They had met some of the other leaders at different points so their ranks were steadily increasing as they got closer to the location.

Lilith walked beside Paul, her presence a constant source of support. "We’ve got this," she whispered, her eyes scanning the surroundings for any potential threats.

Paul nodded, appreciating her confidence. The week was testing every ounce of their resolve, but he felt a renewed sense of determination.

The Alliance was stronger together, and in truth he had missed being responsible for a large group of people.

Their numbers had swelled to approximately one hundred and twenty people in the past days.

Their numbers grew to that amount since they had stopped at different rendezvous points to pick them up.

The landscape around them continued to shift unpredictably. Despite the disorienting spatial anomalies, the combined expertise of the group provided a sense of stability.

In a way Paul was happy at the kind of people he now led. Nobody was dead weight since they were the strongest in their respective groups unlike the former major half of the Alliance members who had to rely on the strong.

As they moved, Paul addressed the gathered leaders. "We must stay vigilant and adaptable. The map is our only guide, but we cannot solely rely on it. Use your instincts and knowledge. Remember, we only have today to reach the structure, and we must solve the Fifth Mystery to progress."

Steven nodded, his expression serious, he raised a hand for permission to speak after the Guildmaster was done.

"Go ahead," Paul said, stepping back as he granted his request.

"Thank you Guildmaster. With your permission, I would like to delegate tasks. Scouts should be on the lookout for any anomalies that could hint at the structure’s movement pattern. Others should focus on ensuring that our path remains clear."

"You heard him, let’s get down to it already," Paul said to the rest of them while giving Steven a thumbs up for his talk.

The group dispersed into smaller units, each with a specific mission. They didn’t need to ask what to do as they were used to giving out similar orders to their followers in the past.

Meanwhile Lillith remained by Paul’s side, her presence a calming influence amidst the uncertainty.

Despite the others’ mistrust, Paul valued her insights as she was particularly shrewd in matters like this. There was also the matter of how long they had been together.

It was some hours before he reassembled them to report what they had found out. Unfortunately there wasn’t much information apart from what they already knew.

Paul kept himself in check when he found himself getting angry. After all he hadn’t noticed anything new himself so he wasn’t in the position to reprimand others.

"Even though we’ve made good progress today and we’re close to the location, we can’t afford to lose focus since this is the last day. The structure appeared twice today, both times in the general area we predicted. If we can narrow down the pattern, we’ll increase our chances of reaching it."

"Does anyone have anything they’ll like to say to the group?"

Nobody spoke up

An engineer named Aria spoke up. "I’ve been analyzing the data. There’s a rhythm to the appearances, it’s like a heartbeat. If we can synchronize our movements to this rhythm, we might predict the next location more accurately."

Paul considered her words. "Good work, Aria. Let’s use this information to refine our strategy. Everyone, get some rest for 20 minutes. We’ll need our strength soon enough."

They all laid down at once as they didn’t need further convincing. They hadn’t been any prior complain because of their rank but they were all tired.

Suddenly he noticed a change in the map direction and he looked at it thrice to convince himself that his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him.

"We’re here," Steven yelled out confirming what he had seen in his status screen.

There was a general commotion amongst the leaders as they couldn’t hold their joy back on seeing the good news.

The structure’s ever changing location had worked in their favor and had come right where they were to meet them.

As they approached the designated area, the ground began to tremble, and the air grew thick with anticipation.

The structure flickered into existence, its towering presence a beacon of hope amidst the chaos. But just as quickly as it appeared, it flickered again, leaving behind an eerie silence.

There was a general whoop of celebration when it reappeared once more.

"Well done, everyone," Paul said, his voice filled with pride as he shouted above the din. "We’ve made it this far, and we have won. Let’s go in."

"Move, now! We don’t know if it’ll disappear again," Paul shouted, urging the people at the rear that he felt were walking too slowly.

They took the cue and sprinted towards the spot where the structure had been, hoping to catch it while it was still visible to them.

Just as the first batch were about to enter, they saw a figure slowly rising from the structure.

The first batch stopped walking as they all looked towards the sky at the masked figure who was looking down on them.

Even before he could make him out properly,Paul knew that it could only be Jeremy.

Yet again, the Hoarder had beaten them to it.
