Chapter 412: The End of the Guildmaster

Paul’s mouth hung agape as he stared at the shocking scene before him. He was completely bewildered.

Sariel had defeated Jeremy!

He hadn’t thought it possible to begin with which was why he hadn’t considered it a factor at all.

Jeremy’s defeat now nailed the coffin for Paul.

Meanwhile Sariel stood in the center, catching her breath, a victorious yet conflicted look on her face.

She had a feeling that Jeremy was just enjoying himself but she wasn’t sure of how he felt losing to her.

She saw his expression where he laid and knew that he was alright with how things had gone. She had just been overthinking things.

Outside the ring, Jeremy pushed himself up, wiping the dirt from his face with a chuckle.

"Well, that was exhilarating," he said, his voice filled with genuine amusement. "You’ve definitely earned your reward, Sariel. You bested me."

Sariel gave him a curt nod, her expression softening as she grinned. "You fought well, Jeremy. It was an honor."

Jeremy’s eyes twinkled with mischief as he turned to Paul. "So, Paul, it looks like I won this round. I alone will advance to the next round to fight the boss."

Paul’s fear deepened. "I... I don’t, I mean I can’t lose. I mean it’s impossible, there should be other tests apart from this to judge us from before we move to the next round.

He knew he was rambling as he looked around wildly. He was desperate and it showed in his wild carriage.

Jeremy’s grin widened as he relished the sight of Paul pleading in front of him.

"No. You know the rules. You lost the fight so it’s over for you. At least you didn’t lose in front of all your followers now, did you?"

"So what will you do to me now?" Paul asked, slowly backing away from the scene ignoring his last comment.

"Tskk. I won’t do anything. You’re insignificant to me. I will just leave you and advance to the next level. I’m done proving my point to you."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, I had to dispel any thoughts you had of being better than me at all. Did you seriously think that you were going to win?"

Paul’s face fell as the realization hit him. Jeremy had orchestrated the entire scenario just to teach him a lesson.

He had underestimated Sariel, just as he had underestimated Jeremy’s strategic mind.

The humiliation of his short-sightedness stung deeply.

Meanwhile Lillith watched the exchange with a mix of amusement and respect.

Jeremy had once again outmaneuvered them all, in a way that ensured his victory.

He had really been several steps ahead of them all along.

Her thoughts were thrown off as she saw Jeremy glancing her way. For some reason, she suspected that he was about to say something really important.

Jeremy took a step forward, his eyes locked onto Paul’s, a dark resolve settling into his expression.

"Lillith," he commanded, his voice cold and authoritative. "Kill Paul and then kill yourself right after that."

Lillith was surprised by his request but knew that she had no other choice but to obey him.

Sariel’s brows were raised in surprise too.

"Jeremy, are you sure about this? There must be another way."

Jeremy’s face hardened briefly then he had a fit of giggles. "This is the only way it would end and this is me actually being considerate, I could just kill him myself."

Paul’s eyes darted between Sariel and Jeremy, the terror in his eyes intensifying. "Jeremy, please," he begged, his voice trembling. "Don’t do this. For Lilith sake, please don’t."

Lillith hesitated, torn between her loyalty to Jeremy and the moral horror of the act she was being commanded to perform.

Jeremy’s patience, however, was thinning.

"Lillith," he barked, "I won’t repeat myself."

With a pained expression, Lilith moved towards Paul, her sword drawn.

Paul stumbled back, his legs shaking as he tried to escape, but his legs failed him and he finally gave up trying and sunk to the ground.

He thought about his life up to that point and it all seemed inconsequential as time shrank around him, trapping him in the nightmarish reality.

"I curse the day I met you, Jeremy," He whispered faintly to himself.

The thought of what he had considered his life’s aim was now baseless to him. He had wasted his life trying to kill Jeremy instead of being content with the life the position of a Guildmaster afforded him.

He couldn’t put the entire blame on himself and he faulted the gods.

They had rescued him only to make him a weapon for their own selfish interests. He reasoned that there was nothing stopping them from coming down themselves to end Jeremy if he was that big of a threat as they always said.

Instead they used pawns like him who were easily disposable and he wondered who next the gods would choose after he was gone.

As Lillith drew closer, Paul couldn’t bring himself to hate her as he considered her a brainwashed victim of Jeremy.

It was the reason he chose not to fight her. There was nothing worth living for again on Earth for the both of them.

"I forgive you," he whispered as she drove the blade into his chest.

His eyes gradually closed as he crumpled to the ground, his life ebbing away.

Sariel stood there, her hands bloodied, tears streaming down her face. "It’s done," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jeremy approached her, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Good. Now, for your final task," he said, his tone softer, almost comforting. "Kill yourself."

With a heavy heart, Lillith nodded. She turned the blade towards herself then brought it down swiftly.
