I watched Lillith’s lifeless body fall to the ground right next to Paul’s and sighed.
To think it had ended just like that.
I felt a brief pang of regret on how I had let him out so easily but quickly buried it.
He wasn’t worth it.
Though I had played with him for long, there was no need for me to be that petty.
His pathetic weakness in his last hour was already punishment enough.
Lillith wouldn’t have functioned properly after backstabbing her leader and friend so she had to go too.
Betrayal wasn’t an easy thing for others as it was for me.
Sariel, having witnessed the gruesome scene, came to stand beside me.
We just stared at the bodies for a while. Strangely, they both looked peaceful in death, especially Paul.
Looking at him, no one could think that just a few weeks back, he had led the Gifteds around earth. How the mighty had fallen.
I felt a bit sad that Sariel and I were the only ones who saw his downfall. None of his foolish followers were here.
I didn’t even know how to feel about it because I found it anticlimactic.
I didn’t know what I expected to feel at Paul’s demise but it was certainly not this way.
It all just felt normal.
"Wow, you really outdid yourself with this one."
Sariel eyes were a mix of sadness and horror. "You know you could have just done it yourself instead of using the poor girl. Backstabbing and suicide. Why did it have to end like this?"
I shrugged it off since I didn’t have a suitable reply.
"In our world, Sariel, power is everything. We were just natural enemies. I had to ensure that at the end, he knew his place. He was a threat, and Lillith... she was too close to him so they had to be dealt with."
Before Sariel could reply, I felt something happening around us and was surprised to see that the scenery had changed.
Looking around, I realized what had happened.
Without any prior warning, we had been transported to fight the final Boss.
We found ourselves in a splendid courtroom of some sorts complete with a throne and everything.
The air was heavy with the scent of smoke and ash, and the ground beneath our feet was cold, black stone.
It was dark and torches provided the only illumination in the room.
There was nobody around save for the figure on the throne and some statues around it.
It was unlike any of the previous rounds in some way.
As I stood before the imposing throne, my heart raced with trepidation.
It wasn’t that I was afraid of the place or what I saw.
It was just that I felt the same aura I experienced when I had first met Sariel and other angels.
The feeling that I was seeing celestial beings.
This time around, I was more confident that I could take them on. It wasn’t for nothing that I had evolved to become stronger.
Sariel kept quiet besides me so I knew that it was something I had to figure out on my own.
There was no movement from the throne as I took a step forward so I continued walking towards them albeit slowly.
As I got closer, their outline became bolder and I could make out their details much better.
They were huge too, much larger than I initially thought them to be.
The Boss sat majestically, exuding an aura of power, against a backdrop of dark, crimson curtains that seemed to swallow the light around us.
He didn’t look like a demon unlike the previous ones I had fought. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
He looked...human for a better way to describe it.
That meant he looked no different than any other gifted except for his royal attire and flawless features which confirmed that he was an angel and a high one at that.
The statues besides him were no different.
The four Angel-like statues were stationed at the four corners of the room, their wings spread wide and their eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intensity.
Each of the statues held formidable weapons - swords, bows and arrows, spears, and hammers.
I could feel Sariel’s gaze on me, watching from a distance, as the flickering torches on the walls cast eerie shadows on the ground.
The room was eerily silent, except for the faint hum of energy emanating from the statues stationed at the corners.
Their presence seemed to hold the very fabric of the room in place.
For some reason, I sensed that the weight of this confrontation was important and my courage and strength would be put to the ultimate test.
The only problem and similarity which the Boss shared with the statues was their immobility.
As lifelike as it seemed, it was as unmoving as the statues.
His piercing gaze was fixed on me though but no other part of his body showed that it was breathing.
"What do you think? They don’t seem alive."
"I don’t know. Try attacking them I guess, maybe that would work," Sariel answered behind me.
I got ready to do what she suggested.
I suspected that she knew exactly what was going on but just wanted me to find out myself.
I steeled myself for the battle ahead incase of immediate backlash, the only sound being the soft hum of the statues’ energy at the ready.
My eyes narrowed as I sized up the closest statue to me.
[SUMMON]
The sword that the statue was armed with flew out of its hand towards me and I sent it hurtling back just as swiftly.
~BOOOOOOMMMMM!!!~
The statue shattered as the sword went easily through it and the stone pieces were sent flying around.
I jumped out of the way just as I saw the other statues come to life and the Boss’ eyes shine open.
