Rise Of The Hoarder
Chapter 431: A New Deputy
The Angel’s blow sent the deputy flying far off amidst a cloud of dust.
There was no doubt again as to the outcome of the fight.
It had been a swift decisive battle with the win on the Angel.
For one, there was no comeback from the Deputy.
There were murmurs among the other board leaders who wanted to rush to his aid but I held a hand indicating that no one interfered.
Everyone was straining to see them clearly amidst the dusty scene.
They had broken out of the initial ring of their fight since it hadn’t been big enough to contain them.
When the smoke cleared, we could see the Deputy still lying down sprawling on the ground.
"Stay back!"
I cautioned the people that were about to rush to where he was.
He looked dead but I knew it couldn’t be the case.
I noticed that the Angel had held back during the fight and he was pretty strong himself to be taken out that easily.
The Angel floated to my side, unconcerned by the stir he had caused.
His face was expressionless and his appearance unruffled as though he hadn’t just engaged in a battle.
It was the face of someone who had chastised a kid throwing tantrums.
I went over to where he laid.
It was a different picture from the person who had strutted confidently to the battleground.
His face was battered and he had blood streaming down his nose, the body parts of him that were visible were bruised.
To complete the picture, his eyes were closed as he laid unmoving.
I saw him for what he really was. A short stout man with a bloated ego.
It felt good watching him given how he had bragged.
"You lost so stop pretending. You can get up now," I said at last.
There was no response or reaction from him.
"Well I guess I have to incinerate your body then."
"Ah, you sly bastard. God damnit, I’d rather I was dead," He said opening his eyes and struggling to get up.
I could hear the sighs of reliefs behind me as the rest of the people saw him.
I suspected that he had been faking it but I had become convinced when I came to where he was.
For someone faking to be dead, his chest had been moving up and down.
"So I guess I am now the new deputy"
As he struggled to his feet, I saw that his pride was wounded.
"You obviously cheated somehow, something is fishy here," he muttered, glaring at me. "This isn’t over."
"Actually, it is," I replied, meeting his gaze with unwavering determination. "You’ve had your chance. Now it’s my turn. A deal is a deal."
"No you’re not. We have to get to the root of this. I’m still not convinced that it was a fair fight."
Coming towards us was Lyra who looked like she wanted to talk to me.
"Try stopping me," I said to the deputy as I was about to get on with my next plan.
With a snap of my fingers, the place suddenly grew brighter.
As everyone watched, more glowing beings suddenly appeared.
I had summoned more Angels.
I could see that everyone present was overwhelmed with their power.
Their aura was so strong that they could only bow their head in submission.
I could see the surprised faces of a few of them and it felt good.
They had severely underestimated me not knowing the extent of my abilities.
My eyes were drawn to Lyra though and our eyes met.
Like everyone else, she was feeling weak because of the Angels presence.
She was looking pissed off which surprised me.
Hadn’t the deputy and I made a fair deal? What was happening now wasn’t my fault.
They’ll just have to accept me as their Deputy or else things could go awry.
Not like it weren’t going to go awry either way though.
All this was just a preamble.
"As your new deputy, here is the first thing that I’m going to do, I began moving towards the other board leaders. The Angels you see are going to be stationed at respective places, taking the form of statues. They will be my eyes and ears, and as long as I remain in the city, not a single one of you will perish."
There were nods of agreement amongst them.
Not one word of opposition was uttered after my speech contrary to what I expected.
I smiled as I realized that the countdown was about to end and the Scenario begin.
Just in time too.
Power belonged to those bold enough to take it.
