Rise Of The Hoarder
Chapter 444: The Dome Collapses
Like Sariel said, the dome held firm against the swarm of locusts that attacked it.
We were the only ones still in the open as the rest of the people had taken cover.
>SKIIIIAAAAKKK!!!<
Their buzzing wings was the only sound around and it filled the air as they sought an opening to the city.
Like a black veil, they quickly covered the dome, cutting off the light and considerably reducing the visibility around.
Before they completely covered everywhere, I spotted a tall figure amidst the swarm who appeared to be leading them.
The next second, he was a blur as he sped towards the barrier.
~BOOOMMMMMMM!!!~
The impact of his blow resounded and the tremor was felt across the city.
After the wave subsided, I was surprised to see it had done nothing to alter the dome in any way.
Infact the impact had appeared to throw the attacker far away.
Sariel had really done some incredible stuff in the construction.
The leader had to be an extremely powerful demon and if I were to hazard a guess, a demon general.
I looked at her to see that she was muttering to herself.
"I suspected as much. Abaddon is in charge."
Those were the only words I could catch before she noticed that I was looking at her and she kept shut.
There was a hint of sadness in her eyes as she stared into the distance.
"Sariel, who is he? Anything I need to know about him?" I queried as we felt yet another tremor from his blow.
"Not much. His name is Abaddon. He’s a fallen Angel and a strong demon general. The locusts are his minions."
I didn’t push the matter even though it was clear she didn’t want to say much as usual.
I wondered if she had known him personally as her face which was usually blank and mysterious had now taken on a thoughtful expression.
Suddenly, a strange occurrence happened which took my mind off it in an instant.
We heard a loud crash behind us and looked back to see a strange sight.
A figure had broken out of one of the city’s buildings and was now hovering in the sky.
"Is that..." Sariel began to say.
"Yes, that’s Lyra," I said, taking the words from her mouth and not quite believing it myself.
The last time we had seen her, she was too weak to do anything after being tranquilized and sent to the hospital.
The newfound strength we saw was suspicious.
Even as we watched, she boosted herself at neck breaking speed hurtling towards the dome.
~BOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!~
A spiderweb of cracks spread across the dome then it shattered leaving the city vulnerable.
I recoiled in surprise at the unexpected development.
Something was definitely wrong here, there was no way Lyra had that much strength.
I couldn’t figure out how she did it. She couldn’t possibly be stronger than Abaddon who had been going at it for some time now.
With the barrier out of the way, the demon locusts quickly swarmed in as they had been waiting for the moment to do so.
Abaddon led the way and I knew it wouldn’t be long before we all clashed.
From where I stood, I sensed an intense gaze and saw that Lyra was looking at me from the skies.
I couldn’t see her face but I was sure that it wasn’t friendly. She was going to try to take me out without a doubt.
I had to kill her and be done with it.
Without a doubt, she was definitely going to confront me for what i did to her. She had slowly gone mad from all that had happened.
I wasn’t going to forget the pact I made to protect the people of the city so I had to help them first.
For that, I had to give up a lot of items.
I walked over to one of the guards hiding in the nearest outpost and called him out.
"Hey, come out. I have a job for you."
I couldn’t hear myself over the din of the locusts which was so loud it was almost deafening.
He crept out of his hiding place like a rat looking fearfully around. He was a well built middle-aged man yet he acted jumpy.
I brought out several magic potions, magical items and resurrection elixirs out of my subspace.
"Here, distribute this across the city to help out in the fight. I will also place angels around the city to defend you guys."
It seemed he caught the gist of what I was saying because he nodded and accepted them cheerfully with several bows in my direction.
He ran as fast as his legs could carry him to the nearest place people gathered and I could see the leaders surrounding him as he delivered the items to him.
I turned back to meet the swarm who were almost upon us.
It pained me to let go of those items especially the resurrection elixirs but I had my reasons.
>WHOOOSHHHHHH!!!<
As promised, I summoned some angels to defend them.
They assembled in all their glory. Seven glowing fine tall celestial specimens ready to do my bidding.
They instinctively knew what to do and all sped to different parts of the city.
"I have one request to make," Sariel said as we readied ourselves to fight
"What’s that?" I asked absentmindedly as my eyes were trained on Abaddon’s approaching figure.
I could make him out better as he approached.
He looked grotesque like something out of a child’s drawing of a monster.
He had massive wings, several horns growing out of his bald head, multiple eyes that resembled an insect’s and his overall appearance was like a wild, savage beast.
He had four arms, two legs and a tail which whipped and lashed around like it had a mind of its own.
"Take care of Lyra and leave Abaddon to me," she pleaded, looking earnestly at me.
"Uh—what is actually going on with you today?"
