Shut-In Of The 'Dead'
Chapter 127: Mysterious Blood Lady On The Gurney
There was a deep silence in the midst of the crowd. Ayaka and Kazuichi looked at each other as if they weren’t going to get defeated. Seeing their reactions, Hinokami greedily raised his hand for the last bid.
"Three hundred and fifty million!" He screamed.
One of his subordinates looked at him with eyes almost bulging out of his sockets. "Sir! You can’t do this. We won’t have enough money for..." The subordinates let out a hint of panic. He couldn’t believe that their stronghold leader once again fell for Kazuichi’s tricks.
At the back of his mind, the subordinates hoped that Kazuichi or Ayaka would bid an even higher number. He didn’t care whether it was a couple hundred thousand or so... he was just hoping that Hinokami wouldn’t burn more money than he could afford.
Meanwhile, Hinokami also hoped that one of them would bid again. He got overly excited once again, and when it came to auctions, that was always a bad idea.
In his horror, he watched as Ayaka and Kazuichi heaved a sigh. Then they looked at each other and nodded their heads. They then shook their heads and smiled at each other as if they had come to an understanding.
"We can always hunt a couple of Hybrids, I guess." Ayaka shrugged her shoulders.
"You’re right about that. I guess we should give up on this one." Kazuichi heaved a sigh— even that sigh was just pure acting on his part though.
As it turned out, even Ayaka was helping Kazuichi out by acting as desperate as she could. Because of that, Hinokami was given false confidence and he bidded more than he should have. And scarily enough, it’s as if Ayaka and Kazuichi could read each other’s minds since they knew when to stop bidding.
Another three hundred and fifty million burned for Hinokami. All that for a drop of blood, literally as the saying goes.
"Going once? Going twice. Going thrice! Sold to our awesome money guy over there!" The auctioneer didn’t dilly-dally anymore. He just went up and finished the confirmation since no one raised their hands anymore.
At this point, there was no way that Hinokami could financially recover from his losses. Although what he got was valuable enough, they shouldn’t have cost as much as he bidded for them. That’s why it was still a huge loss.
Then again, because of what happened, Hinokami decided to be more careful with his bids. Unlike Kazuichi who had unlimited money to burn, he was slightly financially lower than him.
As for Kazuichi, he still had his black card. And if that wasn’t enough, he could always borrow from Ayaka and pay it back later as soon as he got more resources from his place. His black card wasn’t the only thing left behind by his adoptive parents after all.
A couple more vials of blood were sold, and Kazuichi also put up some bids for a number of them. Then again, he ended up not getting anything since Hinokami wasn’t going to fall for his tricks anymore.
Because of that, Kazuichi decided to turn the tables and do the same to Hinokami— fight fire with fire or so that’s what he thought.
Since Hinokami had the gall to try to outbid him every single time, Kazuichi thought that maybe he could do the same as well. With that in mind, he stopped bidding altogether, waiting for Hinokami to put up a bid so he could go head-to-head with him once again.
Ayaka seemed to think the same thing, but she didn’t bother thinking too much about it since she too had a couple of things she wanted to get in the auction.
"I guess that’s enough vials of blood for now, even I’m feeling a little bit queasy with how much blood we’re selling right now ahaha~ ehrmm~!" The auctioneer cleared his throat to signal to the ones behind the curtains to display the next item.
"Our next item is... well, it’s not actually an item. It’s a lady with the mysterious blood! I guess this is the appetizer before the main event!" The auctioneer exclaimed as the curtains behind him parted, and out came the golden goose of a lady who was tied up to the gurney.
"Unfortunately, we drained too much of her blood and she was bound to die soon. That’s why her owner decided to sell her." The auctioneer scratched his head as he looked at the weak lady who could barely breathe. "Starting bid would be at five...no, three hundred million!"
"What? So she wasn’t worth that much?"
"Her blood’s still valuable though, you can get at least more than fifty vials from her before she dies or something."
"What? Then why sell her? Maybe she’s sick?"
"Yeah, maybe her blood’s contaminated, or maybe she’s at death’s door."
"She doesn’t look appealing. I’ll pass."
Due to the strong scent of fabric detergent, even the Hybrids had no idea whether she was the real deal or not. That’s why no one dared bid for her. Also, the fact that she was dying due to blood loss was something that they took into consideration as well.
They could risk getting her for three hundred million, but the cons far outweighed the pros that’s why no one bothered raising their hand.
From afar, Kazuichi saw the girl breathing heavily as if she was feverish. Her lungs were working double time while her heart pumped faster but her blood loss was severely affecting the systems in her body. It was clear that she was going to die within the day if nothing was done.
Clenching his fists, Kazuichi tried to maintain his composure since he couldn’t act out in the middle of an auction. The moment he stepped into the auction, he half-expected there to be humans or Hybrids being auctioned. What was even more surprising was that it took until the second half before there was one.
"Kazuichi," Ayaka called out to him in a whisper, bringing him back to reality.
The moment Kazuichi looked up, he realized that Ayaka had her hands up.
"Going thrice-! Sold to the lady with the purple hair!" The auctioneer heaved a sigh of relief. For a moment back there, he thought that no one might bid for her. Honestly, he almost reduced the price he initially gave, but fortunately, someone took the bait and bought her.
"Let’s get out of here," Ayaka called out, much to Shig’s surprise.
"What? But we haven’t gotten to the mysterious blood part." Shig asked.
"Yeah, let’s," Kazuichi agreed before turning to Shig. "As for the mysterious blood, we can worry about that later. I have an idea." He motioned.
