Shut-In Of The 'Dead'
Chapter 241: A Siege
Dust swirled in the heavy air as the group stood at the gates of Hybrid Mountain Stronghold, breathless and weary. Kazuichi’s chest still heaved from the last confrontation, the crackle of electricity fading from his fingertips, and the remnants of his water manipulation hanging in the air like a cold mist. Yet, despite their efforts, the battle was far from over.
Kaito stumbled toward them, his body drenched in sweat. "We’ve been holding off the horde for at least an hour now... but there’s more of them." His voice trembled with exhaustion. "Something bigger’s coming. We don’t know where they came from..."
A low rumble rolled across the valley, and Kazuichi’s heart sank. From beyond the walls, a shadow emerged—massive and monstrous, a creature almost as large as the Gigantic Omega Zombie they had encountered before. It lumbered closer, each heavy step reverberating through the ground beneath them.
"What the hell is that?" Kazuichi muttered under his breath, his gaze fixed on the colossal figure.
Ayaka’s grip tightened around her weapon as her eyes narrowed in determination. "There’s no time to figure that out. We have to take it down."
The group surged forward, closing the gap between themselves and the approaching beast. Its enormous limbs swung with devastating force, uprooting the very earth as it advanced. Veins of sickly green light pulsed beneath its rotting skin, powered by the meteorite ore lodged deep within its skull.
Lea and Jurou took the front line without hesitation, their Bulwark abilities flaring to life. Muscles swelled, skin hardened, and their bodies became living shields, bracing against the creature’s first colossal strike. The Omega Zombie’s arm came crashing down, a massive fist aimed directly at them.
Jurou gritted his teeth, absorbing the impact with a grunt. His body trembled under the force, but he didn’t yield. "Ayaka! Arisu!" he shouted, his voice strained. "We’ll hold it off—get in close!"
Arisu was already a blur of motion, her Project Blood Art enhancing her speed as she weaved through the battlefield. Her limbs extended unnaturally, arms and legs becoming whips of muscle as she struck at the creature’s joints, aiming for weak spots. Hardened blood bullets fired from her fingertips, each shot aimed with deadly precision.
But the Omega Zombie barely slowed, its massive form shrugging off the barrage like raindrops.
Ayaka moved in tandem with Arisu, her Dement Hybrid powers making her movements fluid and efficient. Her fists slammed into the creature’s legs, attempting to destabilize it. Her blows were powerful but measured, each strike aimed at weakening the massive Omega from the ground up.
"It’s too strong," Ayaka growled, frustration edging into her voice as her fists collided with the zombie’s thick, rotting skin. "We need to focus on its weak points." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Kazuichi hung back for a moment, his mind racing. Water surged beneath his skin, and electricity crackled along his fingertips. He hadn’t fully grasped the extent of his new powers, but now wasn’t the time to hold back.
"Lea! Jurou! Distract it a little longer!" Kazuichi called out as he darted forward, weaving around the swinging fists of the Omega Zombie.
Lea nodded, her hardened skin glistening with sweat. "We’re on it!"
With the two Bulwarks taking the brunt of the creature’s assault, Kazuichi leaped in with lightning speed, his fists glowing with a mixture of water and electricity. He slammed his fists into the creature’s side, sending shockwaves through its body. The Omega Zombie let out a low, guttural groan, staggering slightly from the impact. Water surged into its flesh, crackling as Kazuichi channeled lightning through the liquid, sending a jolt of energy straight to its core.
"Hit it now!" Kazuichi yelled, his voice strained from the effort.
Arisu took the cue, darting forward in a blur. Her limbs stretched impossibly long as she closed in on the Omega Zombie’s knees, striking with the precision of a snake. Blood bullets exploded from her fingers, each shot aiming to cripple the creature’s mobility. Ayaka followed suit, delivering a devastating uppercut to its chest, aiming to destabilize the beast from within.
The Omega Zombie staggered, its massive body teetering on the brink of collapse. But it wasn’t enough. It roared, swinging its massive arm down toward Arisu, who barely dodged in time, her lithe body twisting out of the way.
"We’re not even making a dent!" Arisu growled, frustration edging into her voice.
"We need more force," Kazuichi muttered under his breath. He could feel the power of the meteorite ore coursing through the creature’s body. It wasn’t just a normal Omega—it was powered by the same mysterious energy that fueled his own new abilities.
Jurou, gritting his teeth, let out a battle cry as he threw his full weight into the next defensive move, blocking the Omega Zombie’s incoming fist with both arms. Lea joined him, her muscles straining as they held the line, their reinforced bodies barely withstanding the onslaught.
Kazuichi’s eyes narrowed. His hands crackled with raw energy—electricity danced along his fingertips, mingling with the water swirling around him. He had to end this now.
Gathering all of his strength, Kazuichi leaped high into the air, summoning a massive surge of water that spiraled around him like a vortex. As he descended, lightning shot through the water, turning the entire column into a living storm of energy. He slammed down on the Omega Zombie’s head with the force of a lightning bolt, sending shockwaves through its entire body.
The creature roared, its massive form convulsing as the electricity ripped through it. Cracks began to spread along its skin, glowing with the sickly green light of the meteorite ore as it struggled to maintain control.
"Now!" Kazuichi shouted, his voice echoing across the battlefield. "Take it down!"
Ayaka, Arisu, Jurou, and Lea moved as one. Arisu’s blood bullets fired in rapid succession, each shot piercing the creature’s joints. Ayaka’s fists glowed with power as she delivered a final, crushing blow to its chest, while Jurou and Lea slammed into its legs, forcing the creature to the ground.
With one final, ear-splitting roar, the Omega Zombie collapsed, its massive body crashing to the earth in a cloud of dust and debris. The sickly glow of the meteorite ore dimmed, and the battlefield fell silent once more.
Kazuichi landed beside the fallen beast, his body trembling from the effort. "It’s done..." he muttered, wiping sweat from his brow.
But as they stood there, catching their breath, a low rumble echoed in the distance.
More were coming.
