Slowly Falling into His Love Trap
Chapter 352: He Gave Up Before Even Having Her
Evelyn nodded, agreeing with Cecilia Lynch’s words.
After all, since Caden Lockwood didn’t come, she didn’t have anything else to do.
She found a steakhouse to sit down in, but Evelyn couldn’t muster up any energy. She randomly ordered something to eat and then slumped over the table, her whole demeanor like a wilted flower.
Cecilia Lynch glanced over Evelyn, then softly asked, "What’s wrong? Did you have a fight with your little uncle?"
If it were before, Evelyn would have definitely snapped back, "Don’t mention him to me!"
But at this moment, Evelyn’s nose turned sour, and she let out a wistful laugh, gently saying, "This time, he didn’t even give me a chance to fight."
Hearing Evelyn’s tone, Cecilia felt the seriousness of the situation.
"What... happened?" Cecilia lowered her voice, "Is it serious?"
Evelyn shrugged, "Yeah."
She forced herself to hold on, lifting her eyes to look at Cecilia, her eyes turning red in that instant, "Cece, he played me."
Cecilia was taken aback, not understanding what Evelyn was talking about at all.
"They say men lose interest in women they already have. I only promised to let him have me, and he wasn’t even interested," Evelyn felt so wronged, tears dropped like a "plop."
"Waaah—Cece, am I so stupid? Dumb enough to think I found a really great guy, but it turns out... I... I don’t even know what I mean to him now," Evelyn cried.
"Don’t overthink," Cecilia advised while handing tissues to wipe Evelyn’s tears, "When people have negative emotions, everything seems wrong. Two people together are bound to face difficulties. Some small problems, once laid out, are actually easy to solve."
"There’s nothing to solve! I saw it with my own eyes! I can’t even lie to myself." Evelyn sniffed, teary-eyed as she looked at Cecilia, "He has someone he likes, and it’s not me... I saw it with my own eyes!"
"No way!" Cecilia’s eyes widened, "Your little uncle dotes on you so much, could he not love you?"
"Right? It’s easy to be deceived by that illusion, isn’t it? Women are like this. When the naked truth is revealed, they realize, oh, everything was just deceiving me! But, up until now, it still feels like I wasn’t deceived!" Evelyn cried even more tragically.
"Evelyn..." Cecilia was a bit anxious, "There must be some misunderstanding! You..."
"There’s no misunderstanding," Evelyn shook her head, crying, "A girl jumped off a building, and my little uncle went crazy, forcing me out of the car and rushed over like a madman, in such a state of grief and pain... waaah—"
These past few days, her mind kept replaying Caden Lockwood’s frantic calls that night, even with tears in his eyes.
She felt that genuine emotion, and every time she recalled it, her heart ached, yet she masochistically continued to think about it, over and over.
"Cece..." Evelyn choked up, "I hate myself like this! That girl is already dead, why am I so lacking in compassion?"
Cecilia blinked, seeing Evelyn cry so heartbroken, she felt sad too.
"It’s okay," Cecilia comforted, "If your little uncle is the type to two-time, then just dump him first! Besides, that girl’s death wasn’t caused by you, you don’t need to feel guilty."
"She probably really hates me, right?" Evelyn asked softly, "The title of ’Mrs. Lockwood’ belongs to me, and I’m the one living with little uncle. Could she have jumped because of my presence?"
