Evelyn trembled violently as she spoke.

In the days of Caden Lockwood’s disappearance, she had thought of every possible outcome.

Those possibilities tormented her, driving her to the brink of collapse.

"Stop overthinking!" Cecilia Lynch held Evelyn’s hand, "It’s not like you forced yourself to be with Caden; he sought you out. Besides, you had no idea about that girl’s existence beforehand. She jumped, that’s tragic, but who says you deserve to be deceived?"

"..."

"Besides, we haven’t even confirmed anything, right?" Cecilia encouraged, "Evelyn, even if things are as we suspect, you need to have a clear conversation with Caden Lockwood. If you’re going to break up, do it thoroughly. Second-guessing yourself and crying until your eyes are swollen is really bad for your health."

"He won’t show up." Evelyn shook her head helplessly. "I can’t find him."

She went to the office every day, with nothing much to do, yet she had to endure Shannon Dunn’s sarcastic remarks. She could easily stay away.

But she chose to come every day, because if Caden didn’t go home, at least, he would come to the office.

But she couldn’t find him at home.

Nor could she find him at the office.

It was as if he had completely disappeared from her world. All she had left were memories.

"Pull yourself together!" Cecilia raised her voice, "Evelyn, we don’t rely on men to live, do we? In this world, three-legged toads are hard to find, but two-legged men are everywhere!"

After a pause, she continued, "Look at you: beautiful, with a great figure, diligent in your studies. You’ll surely become a career woman in the future! So many men dream of having a wife like you! A man will cherish and take care of you. Losing a good woman like you is his loss, not yours!"

Evelyn was amused by Cecilia’s words and replied with a choked voice, "Am I really as good as you say?"

"You’re even better than I say!" Cecilia confirmed, "Come on! Eat some steak! If one isn’t enough, have two! Life is short, don’t ever shortchange yourself! After the steak, let’s have ice cream. I want chocolate and strawberry flavors. Just thinking about it makes me happy!"

"Can I have three?" Evelyn wiped her tears, her voice soft, "I want chocolate, strawberry, and mango. I want them all."

"Eat them all!" Cecilia agreed heartily, "Anything else you want to eat? Just tell me! I’ll buy it for you!"

"You’re so nice." Evelyn sniffed, holding back her tears, "Cece, in the next life, you must become a man and marry me. I’m sticking with you."

"If you’re willing, we can be together in this life too," Cecilia joked.

Evelyn laughed, "A bit too much for my taste."

"See how beautiful you are when you smile?" Cecilia sighed with relief, "Evelyn, no one is worth your tears. Live your life well, okay?"

Evelyn nodded, feeling much better after chatting with Cecilia.

After eating steak, the two went for ice cream, leading a carefree life as if nothing had happened.

In the afternoon, Evelyn decided to pack her things and go home.

She didn’t want to stay at the office any longer.

Originally, she got in through Caden Lockwood’s connections, staying any longer seemed pointless.

Moreover, she couldn’t believe that Caden Lockwood would ignore her for the rest of her life without giving her an explanation.

Just as she reached the company entrance, Shannon Dunn came walking toward Evelyn.

Evelyn’s hands clenched into fists unconsciously. She knew well enough that Shannon wasn’t a kind person.

"What now? Packing up, ready to leave?" Shannon Dunn sized Evelyn up and down, "Joining the company for such a short time, and just like that, planning to sneak away quietly?"
