Chapter 2: wolf

From the sheer shock, Arthur jumped backwards, and slammed into the cave wall, he let out a muffled groan, and quickly turned to look at the fluffy tail attached to his backside.

He opened his mouth, but the only sound that came out of his throat was a strange growl, and at the same time understandable to him. "I became a wolf? Is this some kind of nightmare?"

No matter how hard he tried he could not believe it, quickly, he examined his body completely, and did not forget to look at the part located between his hind legs.

He moved his tail left and right, and scratched the ground with his claws, little by little he began to accept the bitter truth, he had indeed become a wolf.

Even though he was just an ordinary human from Earth who had lived an ordinary and boring life, he did not let fear take control of him and dealt with this strange situation with a kind of flexibility.

He took a deep breath and sat on the ground, then began to analyze what had happened. "Wasn’t I just at home, so how did I get here? No, rather how did I become an animal in the first place, all I remember is returning from work, and sitting down to have dinner."

He was aware that he had missed something, yet he faced difficulty remembering, he furrowed his brow and wracked his brain, and after a short while, he felt a little pain in his head as a series of vague memories passed before his eyes.

He remembered that his computer had behaved strangely before it exploded, and after that a wave of flames swallowed him, and in it he saw many incomprehensible scenes and heard many familiar and unfamiliar sounds at the same time.

"Is it possible that I died? Or perhaps I was transported somehow as happens in the novels I read? That is the only explanation."

He was silent for a moment, then nodded his head in confirmation. "This sounds crazy, but it is the only logical possibility, and also those strange writings that appeared on my computer perhaps had a role in this."

The moment he thought about the strange messages he had seen before his computer exploded, he heard a strange ringing inside his head, and out of nowhere before him, a transparent blue screen appeared, it flickered for a moment before stabilizing.

Ding!

He gasped loudly, and despite the strangeness of the matter he maintained his composure and did not feel great shock, for given what had happened to him, the appearance of a strange screen before him was not something shocking.

He tilted his head slightly to the left, and stared at the transparent screen before him with a kind of bewilderment, he understood what it was, yet it took him some time to determine exactly what he felt.

"A system screen, well, this is not a bad thing." Normally any other person would have felt happy upon learning that they had obtained the most magical element that people in the modern age dream of possessing.

Of course he too felt a little excitement, but he did not want to get ahead of events, for he did not know the nature of the place he had been transported to, and who knows perhaps he would die before benefiting from the system’s advantages.

Without wasting any more time, he commanded: "Open the package."

At that moment, the shape of the screen before him changed, and it transformed into a flat gift box, it shook and several screens burst forth from it.

[ You have obtained a rare skill: Dimensional Storage ]

[ You have obtained a rare skill: Evaluation ]

Before Arthur could understand what he was seeing, all the screens flickered, then dispersed all at once, and in their place appeared a massive golden screen that filled almost his entire field of vision.

[ Congratulations ]

[ You have obtained a legendary bloodline: Primal Predator ]

"Primal Predator." Arthur repeated the name of the bloodline, captivated by how imposing it sounded, he stared at the screen for several seconds until it disappeared, then let out a very long sigh. "There is no room for doubt, this is not my world, the existence of skills and the system is sufficient evidence."

A hint of sadness appeared on his face, but his mood quickly improved, and he thought positively. "At least, I no longer need to worry about my debts, and also I have finally gotten rid of my old miserable life, who knows maybe living as a wolf is not that bad."

He was silent, then a little frustration returned to him. "Who am I kidding, I do not mind being transported to another world, but at least I want to remain human."

His new identity as a wolf brought many temptations, yet, he could not accept the idea of living alone as a beast in a remote place, he had truly loved solitude but not to this extent.

He took a deep breath, and tried to communicate with the system. "System, is there any way through which I can restore my human form?"

The seconds passed slowly, and he received no response, he felt a little anxious, yet he did not panic, he was aware that some systems only respond to specific commands, so he decided to change the type of his questions.

"System, show me my information and personal status."

This time the system responded immediately, a long screen appeared before him filled with words and numbers.

When he finished reading, his lips twisted into a wide smile, and given that his mouth was filled with rows of sharp fangs, his facial expressions became ferocious. "This is good, no rather it is great, I did not lose my humanity in vain, these skills I obtained look very promising."

He did not dismiss his personal status, he read it a second time and analyzed its contents carefully, everything was clear, so he did not need to be a genius to understand the nature of this world he had been transported to.

A dangerous expression appeared on his face, he looked toward the entrance of the cave through which a little light entered, he was able to see what was outside, tall trees and dense vegetation.

"Who knows what kind of dangers exist in this place, I must stay cautious until I understand my situation well, turning into a wolf was not part of my plans but I must adapt to my new form, all that matters now is that I stay safe, I do not want to die again."

Despite his curiosity and desire to explore the place he had been transported to, he did not rush, and remained sitting in his place, for first he had to understand his capabilities in order to use them in the best possible way.
