Strongest Nova: Path of Vengeance
Chapter 128: Shoot
Stanley took the object that Sheila had passed along to him before she had gone to fight the mayor.
It was the gun that she had brought over from outside, the one that originally had 3 bullets in it. Stanley had wasted the first shot testing out how shooting through the shield worked, and then the second one actually shooting through the shield the graze the mayor.
So, now there was a single bullet left on the gun and he propped it up, ready to shoot.
This was the only attack in either his or Sheila’s arsenal that could possibly harm the mayor, so he had to make it count. He placed his finger on the switch and waited.
There were 4 locations in the mayor’s body that he could really hit. Two arms and two legs. Anywhere else could turn fatal and they didn’t want that.
They needed the mayor’s help in escaping from this town after all.
As the two fought, Stanley tried to shoot multiple times, but Sheila was mostly in the way so he couldn’t shoot at all. He had to wait for the perfect moment when he could shoot.
Sheila tried to swing her sword at the mayor, but at the last moment, the mayor used his powers again. He stopped time.
To her, time flowed normally. But somehow, the mayor’s arm sped up and caught her arm in the middle of her swing.
She tried to pull her arm back but the mayor was quite strong. Once she realized she couldn’t, she went in for a kick instead.
The mayor stood still, doing nothing as the kick landed on him but was blocked by the shield. He pulled her toward him next and grabbed her arm at the biceps with his other arm.
Then he hit her in the elbow with his knees breaking her arm at the joint.
"AARGH!" Sheila cried out in pain as she fell to the ground, her arm bent in the wrong direction. Splinters of broken bones came out of the other way, as blood dripped from her hand.
She dropped her sword and the mayor caught it. He pressed the sword as the light flared out once more. He then quickly went in for an attack to kill the girl once and for all.
"Stop!" he shouted as he did so to make sure she remained dead for sure.
Stanley finally got a good view of the mayor. As the world froze over once again, he saw the mayor move ever so slightly.
As for him, he found that it was quite easy for him to move around in the sluggish world of stopped time. He pointed the gun at the mayor, wondering which part of his body he should be attacking.
His legs were close to Sheila, so he couldn’t attack that. His right arm was blocked by the glowing red sword, so he couldn’t attack it either.
So, all that left was the left arm. He pointed his gun toward the left arm, intending to shoot, but at the last second, he stopped.
Even if he shot right now and hit the arm, it wasn’t going to stop the mayor from hitting Sheila. She was going to die if he shot the left arm.
Time flowed back once again as the mayor came down at an incredible speed.
"No!" Stanley shouted and got ready to shoot when time stopped once again. No, it hadn’t stopped. It had simply slowed down.
Stanley had used this power instinctively again as it wasn’t a power he had awakened quite yet. It would still take some time.
The sword still moved toward Sheila, so Stanley needed to be quick about this. Should he just shoot away the sword?
No, he needed to capture the mayor. That was more important here.
As for Sheila, as bad as it was, she was a secondary priority for him in this instance.
So, he decided to shoot the mayor’s left arm.
Just as he made the decision, he saw something. A metallic sheen exposed itself from the mayor’s chest that Stanley noticed quite easily. It was the stuff that the mayor had put on his body that gave him the shield.
It was a target better than anything Stanley had seen just yet. So, Stanley changed the target. His hands moved in surprised swiftness as he aimed for the mayor’s chest.
The sword in his hand was only 20 centimeters away from Sheila’s chest when Stanley acted. The light around the mayor’s body flickered fast but at a visible rate. Without the slowed time, one wouldn’t even know that the light was flickering.
His mind started working at full capacity as he looked at the flickering light while also trying to aim at the same time. The full range of future scenes was played out in front of his eyes, all of which happened in the slowed time.
He saw dozens if not a hundred bullets fly out of the gun, each that either was blocked by the shield or bypassed the shield but instead killed the mayor. His slightly shaking hands caused quite a lot of deviations in the future possibilities.
The sword got closer with only 15 centimeters until it hit Sheila.
Stanley still saw every bullet that could possibly fly out of his gun. And then he saw it, the one where the bullet would actually fly through.
He followed through with that and shot the gun.
The bullet flew out of the gun at a speed that was quite fast for the slowed time. At the same time, he wasted no time and threw the empty gun in the mayor’s direction as well.
His hands felt like they were dragging through mud while he threw it, but he still managed to do it. While the bullet went from the mayor’s chest, the gun went for his arm.
As the mayor’s shield flickered off, the red bullet went through, hitting the metal box on his chest. The shield shut off immediately, and so the gun managed to hit the mayor’s arm at the last second.
Both of the projectiles managed to hit their targets.
